We go on about not having finished 6th or above in any division for 48 years (and counting?), but an even greater wait was ended this weekend.

Gainsborough Trinity (established in 1873) were relegated from the National North. It is the first time they have ever been promoted or relegated in their entire history.

They had been at the same level for 145 years. Talk about stagnation! And when they finally did get out of the division, it was through the trap door.

It’s a funny story but slightly distorted

Nothing like a bit of sensationalism to start the week. Even if they weren't able to be promoted/relegated for a lot of it, watching a team in the same league, probably against largely the same teams for that long must get dull.

Sure I read somewhere relegation and promotion have only been in that division about 28 (ish) years?
