The thing is they seem like really young lads rather than the older ones. There used to be one who looked about 18 who knew the score, it was almost like he would take the piss out of their players by walking so slow if we were winning.
They have no concept of whether they need to be quick or need to be slow, it's things like this that can help give you an advantage in a game.

I must admit, reading this there does seem to be a bit of a wankfest going on over their manager which seems to go past just gentle appreciation.
Anyone could be forgiven for thinking some people on here wanted Lincoln to win on Tuesday night!

My lad is 10, It took me ages to get through to him. He was chasing after the ball for the other teams goal kicks and corners. Must of told him a thousand times to stop wasting your energy chasing their ball and get into position early. Even if your stood next to the ball, leave it and mark up.

They should draft me in as a ball boy. There would be the pretend throws to make players flinch, dummies of kicking the ball back to them and all sorts. Not to mention the encouraging coaching from the sideline to our players and diving slide tackles to stop the ball from going too far if I was in a rush.
I am sure some other people who want to be pro footballers but are shit and too old would be all over it too.

Sadly my flatmate likes to watch Rugby League and I've noticed they have an interesting rule, whereby if a team starts rotating the fouls as you put it, the ref calls the captain and tells them that the next one on his team to commit a foul, regardless if they've not fouled/just come on, will be given a yellow card - or sinbinned as they call it.
It's used infrequently but it's sole purpose is to combat the Lincoln tactic we had on Tuesday night of rotating the fouls to keep 11 men on the pitch but to totally disrupt the other team.Not quite sure how much time this team warning period goes on for in Rugby League but it seems to be applied for as long as the referee is pissed off with persistent fouling from a team.
I still prefer Rugby Union and more importantly football - I just thought it was a clever rule.

Only what Ponticelli did for the last for the last 7/8 minutes against Crawley.
Granted Lincoln did it for 45 minutes and that’s not ideal but they knew we were still dangerous so controlled the game.
If Ponticelli had of got a better connection on his attempts we’d be laughing at there game management and they’d of had more urgency about them then.

I thought the contrast in management styles was extremely evident on Tuesday. The Crowley's were constantly providing feedback to their players and coaching them through the game. Robins stood there with his arms folded and seemed to me to offer no additional tactical input form the sideline whatsoever.
I hear a lot of criticism of Robins' lack of 'Plan B'. We set up a certain way and within 5 minutes it was clear to me that Lincoln weren't playing the system we might have expected. That should have resulted in a change of emphasis around how we competed for the ball. It was obvious to me that Rhead was going to win everything, particularly as he kept pulling into wider areas to compete against Grimmer and Haynes. A small tactical change could have solved this problem, IMO. Let Rhead win every first ball and don't even compete, pull the full-backs in narrower and play 10 yards deeper competing for the 2nd and 3rd phase instead. Would have plugged the gaps and certainly would have given us a better chance to stop their 2nd and 3rd goals.
Hindsight is wonderful obviously, but Robins' job is to work this stuff out. He said nothing and did nothing from the technical area and that, for me, is a failure of his management style.

The reason there is so much gamesmanship and timewasting at this level is simply that the referees are not tough enough on it. We are in a rubbish league and one of the consequences is that we get rubbish referees, many of which are timeservers who will never reach the top level. Younger ones are unwilling to blot their copybook or rock the boat.
Referees have it entirely within their gift to sort out timewasting. For instance, a goalkeeper who wastes time should be given a yellow card without a previous warning. He wouldn't do it again!

I agree. But the other night we had a premiership referee and his performance was as bad as all the other this season.
Lincoln came with a plan to push Grimmer and Haynes back and make it harder for us to create anything or gain territory in areas that would hurt them, this with starting fast and winning the physical battle enabled them to follow the plan and control the game. Once you do that and control the tempo of the game, time management becomes easier as you really dictate the flow of the game.
They also came at us from the off, while we waited, they flew at us. Maybe we thought they would stay tight and settle into the game? . They may of thought as with the Yeovil game we are vulnerable or slow starters. If that's the case someone is better at doing and understanding preparation of the next opponent. If you look at the game as a purest Lincoln will never help you understand it, but if we done the same to get the result we wanted i'm sure more than a few would turn a blind eye. We've had a couple of Premier League referees this season. Mike Jones is poor anyway, but it always seems to me that when a top ref does a 4th division game, he often trots around like he can't be arsed. Unless it's on the telly, of course!
Maybe so but I’ve witnessed those two crawlers twice with my own eyes at the Ricoh sniffing around. As I’ve said in an earlier post there trying to get the faces about.

What are you doing next season? Put in for the job when MR does one in the summer. I aree with what you said by the way.
They have been on local radio saying they wouldn’t consider Ipswich, they are aware they have only been professional for 2 years. They feel they need further experience. Happy to stay and build on that.

The Ipswich task is massive, could be damaging for there careers. Lincoln seem to having the willing to back them so it’s a good fit to stay longer and learn L2 or L1 a bit more before a bigger club asks the question and the wider public scrutinises them.
It’s a rapid rise they have had so sensible

There's more chance of me becoming your manager than your statement being true.
They have garnered interest from much better and bigger clubs than Coventry, but as they said at today's press conference, it's not all about money. They were offered financially better deals elsewhere but whilst they can add value and learn at a place that allows them to develop themselves and the club, why move? (Anyway we play hoofball whilst only having non league footballers with no skill so why would anyone want the Cowleys?) As Smiley says, moving their families up to a Lincoln in July and kids into local school, so it looks likely they will be here for the foreseeable future anyway. IF they were tempted away before 2022, it's going to cost said club an awful lot of money.
