Got in late last night after celebrating reaching the playoffs. Said goodnight to the wife and crawled up the stairs.

We are booked to be in France the weekend before the final. I had already worked out that it was going to take me 11 hours each way without traffic. She has just got up and informed me that she has booked a ferry crossing early on the Tuesday morning and also booked the hotel in London for the weekend while I was out celebrating

I knew there was a reason why I married her :smug:

Exactly the same as my wife then.

I said to her, if we get to the final it's on Monday the 28th May and before I had even got past 'Monday' she cut in and said 'You're not going.'

I knew there wasn't a good reason why I married her.

What makes you think you need her permission?

It was a joke, ouch.

I always tell her and yesterday it was just me telling her, not asking.

The only response I actually got was a shrug of the shoulders.

She wouldn't dare tell me I'm not doing anything. ;)

Ok cool, otherwise if you hit problems let me know and **I'll** give you permission to go!

What a great lady, let’s hope the players deliver now. I have a stag weekend this weekend and gutted, I haven’t decided whether to text my mate yet or not asking if he’s ok with me not going

We have been bringing up kids for over 30 years now.....and still not finished. Youngest two are 8 and 9. So got another 10 years to go yet.

She has her weekends away and so do I. If we didn't we would have gone mad by now. We also have time away together. But nearly always with kids. But we made that choice.

I'm just dreading the shopping bill for her in London while I am at the game :woot:

Thought by the post title that you were going to say you had a result and she had left you?!

Can you divert the stag to the playoff game?

Where is the stag weekend? If it was me I would go to the match and not bother with the stag weekend stuff it will save you a fortune

Maybe you could stop calling her 'the' wife now. I recommend 'my' as it suggests she is an intimate not an object.
Should be in Things that annoy you thread, I know but it really grates on me.

Nope. Is the wife and will always be the wife. Wasn't one before her and won't be one after her.

And she isn't an item I own. I use the term 'my' when I own something. The wife. The kids. The dogs. The cats. My beer.

The friend, the father, the mother. If used that would be a tad confusing. I think it unlikely any of us do use those terms TBF. The my is not about ownership, it denotes connection.

The friend of a friend.
The father of the bride.
The mother in law from hell.

So, what I’m getting from this is; If you had any friends, you’d say ‘my friends’ ?

Let's agree to disagree. I would be offended if I was called 'the' anything by an intimate as I see it as disrespectful, but I accept others see it differently.

You just need to lighten up and not take things so seriously

I happen to think language is important, which I can see appears pedantic to others. However, communication is a subtle business and we should all reflect on how we come across to others. No offence meant or taken but discussion is what forums are for, I guess.
