ive been reflecting on Grendel, Adge and others slating Max and Burge and of course we can all have our preferences to some extent.

What I’ve been thinking is that up until this season it’s been easy and lazy to just cast off our players cause for the last 10 years or so they’ve all been pretty poor and the youngsters have disappeared before we have been proved wrong.

Let’s agree to have a bit more patience with them shall we? Let’s be on their side during games and not seek to slate every little mistake.

On the two players in question Max has improved enormously since January and should be praised for that. If Burge could put 20 games like last night together he’d be an asset in league 1

Players, whoever they are, certainly are not getting a free ride from me. The balance has to be right though and this is probably the point you are trying to make.
Good examples of this recently would be Burge and Max who have delivered when it really counts and have certainly proved a few of us wrong and long may that continue.
I think I'll stick with my assessment regarding Haynes though. Not up to it and never will be.

Fair point, Pete.

I usually welcome all with open arms and try not to judge players too much, but I have learnt my lesson this season. I thought Stokes was shot, that Kelly perhaps wasn't as good as we first thought and that Burge was a very poor keeper.

I'm a City fan though, so I am very, very happy to be proved wrong on all 3 counts.

Pete, I admire your sentiment. But this is CCFC win a game and we’re world beaters, lose one and certain players get slated.
You may convert a few but most will never change. I count myself in this as I think Haynes and Grimmer are very poor defensively and would dump both tomorrow.

Grimmer runs all day - yes his defensive side needs to improve, but as others have said he was definitely fouled by Stead for their goal last night - not at fault (ref/lino should have spotted that). He has enough basic components for us to improve him. For a club where we are, we're not likely to find a Kyle Walker or some such infallible player. We do need to resolve Stokes' fitness issues in pre-season. With Haynes we need to decide to ditch and replace, or rely on improving him through coaching.

It’s all relative but there’s a reason you Adge and Grendel have s reputation and it’s not for realism or football judgement

Some of the very best players are because they have overcome adversity.
Not sure being screamed at for trying is helpful to young players.
An analogy would be shouting at a child for failing an exam.
Only an idiot would do that.

People have still been judging Burge on last year's performances rather than this. It was easier to either blame or at least say should have done better rather than look for the real problem behind goals conceded.

Biamou had a big step up to adjust to, it takes time to develop partnerships and understanding. Football is very much a confidence game. Too many fans just judge strikers on goals rather than their all round contribution.

If we are promoted two new fullbacks are essential. Grimmer ok as back up, but Haynes & Stokes, for different reasons are past their sell buy date

For being hard on certain players. Others are more balanced but it’s fine you’re certainly entitled to your opinion and mine is no more correct than yours I just think it’s a shame. And over the last few years you’ve been right but players have improved this year and proved you guys wrong

Indeed. Maddison was one in particular that stuck two fingers up to me. No problem for me to admit when I get it wrong.

Lol despite playing in a lower league now?

Also it’s a nonsense argument as fans often do the opposite and have strange fixations on players and focus on false positives - the likes of Haynes, Biamou can never do wrong in some people’s eyes - the hyperbole around bigiaramana was embarrassing.

Some players have received dogs abuse in here like Kelly but oddly no one seems to comment on that. Shipley, a up and coming young player rarely gets praise either

George Thomas was roundly abused by some on here.

It’s not an argument it’s a plea. If we are on the way up we need to be patient with our judgement. I do love all (Most) of the posters on here. It’s a real fun community. I don’t want to fall out

Funny you should say that when RCC was in goal he couldn't do no wrong ether.
Yet any other keeper got slated Oggy got called out for not training them right.
Some players will never get the praise they deserve because they make a mistake others make dozens yet that is ok.

The thing what links those 3 together is that their playing style would be described as laid back. Some football supporters tend to prefer players who just aimlessly chase the ball and then that means their a great player and can't be criticised because at least they give it their all. Andy Morrell and Stern John come to mind of players at opposite ends of the spectrum. Kelly's first 45 mins last night was the best CCFC performance from a midfielder I've seen for a long time, his contribution sometimes gets overlooked

For those of us not there, the Sky clip is to short for the second goal. It is not clear who slung the pass up to McNulty that started that move - which was worthy of a much higher grade of football than League 2 - X to McN to Bayliss to Kelly (who must have covered miles at top speed to get there) to McN. Who was X?

Certain players get more stick because of certain parts of their game.

Burge has been more than sound in 90% of games but the odd mistake and constantly poor kicking means he gets the extra abuse. There has been plenty of games where he has won us points. Luton away he was phenomenal, Newport he kept us in it and the same as last night.

Biamou, despite actually playing really well early on in the season, got stick because the aspect of the game he was missing was the goals.

He didn’t play well - STP is spot on - people like you would always support Biamou above players like John and Joachim because you mistake running and chasing for quality

It’s the coventry way

It's not the Coventry way at all. It's football. The same arguments will take place amongst the fans of all clubs.

Max did play well on occasion during the first part of the season, but he was clearly finding it difficult. I remember away at Barnet really feeling for the lad, because he was doing OK but it justing wasn't happening for him in the key moments.

In the end he found his feet, and what has emerged is a player that is not just full blooded, but who has ability. He has good technique, he is stong, good in the air, holds the ball up well; someone who is an asset at this level. Surprises me how some people couldn't see that, but hey, we're all shit armchair pundits at the end of the day.

Not true at all. He's playing to a similar standard but is now scoring goals.

He always worked hard and won headers. We're a far better side when he's in the team.

He didn't get fouled, and to be frank, he was giving a push back too... It looks like he could've touched the ball out for a corner.

I like Grimmer, brilliant engine and good attacking fullback, but any physical player on his wing has the beating of him - we saw it against Lincoln too. Any opposing manager should try and stick a striker on him and they'll make chances. In that aspect, Grimmer gets done far more than I ever seen Haynes/Stokes get beat like that.
