As the years go by I’m becoming more and more detached from top flight football. Nothing to do with us slipping away from the top flight but the lack of passion and money killing the game.

Sad times at the top end.

And the cheating too. so much diving and feigning injury etc.

The game needs a shake up.

It was poor again, the only decent finals seem to be when a lower club makes the final which is sadly rare. Lost it’s importance now, for me the winner of the cup should play 4th place in the premier for the champions league spot. You would certainly see more effort and would stop the gooners and spurs of the world being happy taking 4th spot

Awful game. Some really talented, exciting players being stifled by dull tactics from their managers.
Sometimes get the feeling managers over complicate the game.
City and Liverpool aside been some really dull football in PL this season.

That’d be good but when would the extra game be played? Especially in a tournament year. It would probably mean the Cup Final would have to move to midweek.

Fell asleep midway through second half (truth be known I was battling it at HT)
More importantly tho - Yet again Moanrinho's assertion that manure were "The better team" must surely lead the FA, even the PL and possibly UEFA into discussions over the possibility of minting a special medal for them every time this 'crime' occurs.
It has 'happened' on so many occasions, something needs to be done. Maybe MUFC replacing their head coach?

They have always been after the 39th game aren’t they, it should surpass the championship finals as a huge one off game and wouldn’t be surprised if they took it around the world.

I said when they appointed him it wouldn't work out and it seems to be going that way. I'll be surprised if he lasts all of next season.

Already paving the way - falling out with players, picking on youngsters, defensive (and aggressive) with the media.

It's the Sanchez signing that will finish him. Huge wages etc, no proper role in side, ruining other players,Jose too stubborn to admit it. Probably go at end of next season with a top 4 finish claiming he's done a brilliant job.

There's an abundance of talent at Utd just not being used properly. still trying to replicate a formula that he first used when he joined Chelsea (15 or so years ago)

That’s true. I reckon the League Cup Final will go abroad first. It wouldn’t surprise me if Carabao have written a blank cheque in the last year or so to test the EFL’s morality.

What about the Checkatrade? We could sell that concept to some small third world countries couldn't we?

They don't need to know it's not the senior Chelsea and West Ham teams taking part.

Watched the first 20 or so minutes with a group of friends in Birmingham after a brewery tour.

To be honest, there is little worse than being in a boiling hot over crowded pub garden in Birmingham full of plastic supporters from both teams. What with our (real football) game the night before I couldn't feel more unattached from it all. We had enough so left and came back to Earlsdon.

Watch final day of season in italy. Amazing. The top leagues are still great i assure you

The issues many have brought up plague the whole game not just top flight. Biamou play acts loads for e.g

I hate to say it but I don't think the FA Cup means as much to the foreign players (who are the vast majority, let's face it) as it does to the few British players who are more steeped in its history.
Most of those players aspire to the Champions League, not the FA Cup.
The Italian, Spanish and German leagues are still mostly home-grown players so there is more interest in their domestic cups.
That's my theory anyway, I could be wrong.

In the top 4 there are more home grown in La Liga and Bundesliga than the Premier League however there are less in Serie A. When it comes to cup finals the Spanish one is fairly even (5 for the winners, 4 for the runners up). As for the other 3, the winners all had more home grown players than the runners up. Does nationality make that much difference? If anything the team with less home grown players are more likely to win it.

Starting line up in their last league game
Real: 3 Spanish
Atletico: 6 Spanish
Barcelona: 4 Spanish
Valencia: 6 Spanish

Cup final
Barca: 5 Spanish
Sevilla: 4 Spanish

Bayern: 6 German
Schalke: 5 German
Hoffenheim: 5 German
Dortmund: 4 German

Cup final
Frankfurt: 2 German
Bayern: 5 German

City: 3 English
United: 3 English
Spurs: 4 English
Liverpool: 3 English

Cup final
Chelsea: 1 English
United: 5 English

Juve: 5 Italian
Napoli: 2 Italian
Roma: 2 Italian
Inter:2 Italian

Cup final
Juve: 2 Italians
Milan: 7 Italians

Remember the FA Cup final was often the only live game on telly all year so it was quite an occasion and everyone used to make a day of it.
Saturation coverage has taken the novelty away so I think that's a factor.

i would say a much bigger factor is that champions league is now the big trophy alongside premier league

fa cup as shown in this case with chelsea does little to help a clubs future

a shame, football used to be about prestige and winning not balance sheets

definitely factors. I despair when I see mid table Premiership sides who are safe from relegation playing a weakened side in the cup because they're more concerned with finishing 9th than 11th in the EPL rather than going all out for some FA cup glory.

Tbf there is now evidence to suggest it was more to do with Pardew being completely incompetent and Ashley not caring where they finish or what they win.

The guy who plays Max Branning was on Soccer AM, he turned his nose up that they (Arsenal) had won the FA Cup and spoke as if it was nothing. It seems like the FA Cup is more enjoyed lower down, giant killings, non league clubs etc. Then you have fans of the bigger clubs who couldn't give a shit as they want to watch Messi play on TV.
