Notts County Second Leg - where does it rank? (1 Viewer)

A week on......

I've been to some of the most memorable games over the past 40 years including, West Ham semi-final first leg, Man Utd. 3-2, last day miracle at WHL and 4-0 Liverpool in 1983.

For me the Notts County game is instantly and already up there with the very best. The timing of the third goal after the pressure on us after half time was just immense. The team playing the game it should be played and winning out against the anti-football of Nolan. Perfect. All of this away from home, with a young team and under the intense pressure of a play off decider.

But most importantly the scenes at the end will live in my mind for a lifetime - and I'm sure in the minds of all of the players and supporters. At the end of the match we had 4 ex-youth team players on the pitch making it even more special. The support was out of this world from pre-kick off right through to the post game celebrations. I've never seen a set of fans and team so united.

Onto Wembley!

A very good friend of mine from Croatia watched the game on TV from afar. His first time watching the City live. He absolutely loved it. Couldn't believe the passion shown by the team and the fans. For him what he saw was miles better than the Cup final the following day or games in the Premiership in general. True football played as it should be with the supporters and team on the same page. A very proud night in our history.

It’s games like the County one that make being a Coventry fan worthwhile.There are probably 200 naff games to every “gold nugget” game like the one last week. It makes it all the more special when it happens. The feeling at that game is something that supporters of the big four, big five or big six, whatever the number and whoever they are this season, will never experience or understand. Those whinging Arsenal fans will never have the feeling that our fans had at Meadow Lane because of their notion of entitlement. I was there with two of my boys, one 31 the other 24 who in their Coventry supporting years have had hardly a glimmer of success (the Check- a-trade excepted). I was really pleased that for once they are experiencing a little bit of success and one of those rare and precious CCFC special moments.

Yes, the adrenalin that was pumping through the fans and players was palpable. Took me several days to come down from the buzz.

Best team performance I've seen this season. Very loud and passionate City following. Most, if not all fans singing together. The players reactions to us was very memorable and emotional. I'm so very happy for the younger fans and kids that experienced that, because it's special and it stays with you. Added to all of this, we have a connection to players via Twitter, the like of which is also special, because they feel like our mates. So, as to where this Notts game ranks in position of all times greats? The FACup 87 win takes some beating for me, but more recent history, yes this is top. Needs to be bettered on Monday with the win, because all that positivity from fans and the promotion can help build this club back up to where we were with Mowbray his first half season. Such a key game to our future. I loved that win in Notts. A very special occasion pleased I was present to witness. Bless MR and the lads for that. AND to all those City fans with me. What a night to be a City fan.

For me the only one on a par with last week was the Gillingham game ob that Friday night in Sept 2014 when we came back to the Ricoh. Hardly a classic game but the right result and the atmosphere was something else that night.

Cov 6 Derby 2, last game at HR, I don’t think anything could possibly ever top that.

But the Notts County match is second now for sure- and the reason is the celebrations, I’ve honestly never seen a connection between our fans and players like that- there was a togetherness to the noise and singing and we all felt as one- and that elevated it above almost everything else I’ve seen in the last 30 years

It does look like being a watershed game. We have huffed and puffed this season, done okay for periods then a Yeovil freak turns up, and an Accrington surrender but last Friday seems different can’t put a finger on why just different and should be a springboard for better times ahead imo and even if we slip up Monday I’ll feel the same

I’ve been asking myself this question. I didn’t make Wembley in 87 sadly. If you’d asked me before last Friday what my favourite game was, I’d probably have gone for the White Hart Lane miracle, the last game at Highfield Road, or the win at Wimbledon in 96.

For me the very best games are only partly about the result. For example Huckerby’s goal against Man Utd is possibly my favourite goal but the game itself wouldn’t be. We got a result to stay up at Charlton but that has to rank as one of my worst ranked games.

What makes a truly great game for me is something it’s hard to put a name to. It’s feeling the game in your gut before you go, rather than just knowing there’s a game today. It’s achieving something against the odds or against your own dreams of what might be possible. It’s doing that with the players, feeling they want it just as much as you do and are just as moved by it. It’s loving the players - love is a strong word but how I feel about Doyle, McNulty, Bayliss, Shipperly is more than like or respect. It’s feeling at one with thousands of other city fans - fans you know have been to the same games you have down the years and even though you don’t know them, you see the same excitement and feeling in their eyes and you feel like family. And being at these games with people you love and knowing you’ll be remembering and taking about it for years. The Notts County game had all of this in a wonderful night I’ll always remember. For me the game has gone to No 1, above the Wimbledon game which was previously my favourite.

Don't undersell us - we beat Man City 4-2 that year (hat-trick for Fergie and one for Wally).

Got it CC4Life and understand it's an individual thing. But whatever the result on Monday, I'm still going to remember last Friday as my favourite game for the total experience. And I've been to most of the biggest games over the past 40 years. Anyway like you, CC4 life and bring on Wembley!!

I have never woke up still buzzing and drunk with hangover, but singing so loud in hotel and in car.
So I guess yes was special.

Watched it almost every day since.

Forget about Notts County now! its all about Exeter on Monday, i have just watched the Playoff final L2 from last year and i am officially nervous now,the magnitude of the game is immense and means so much to us on more than a few levels.

They are going to be well up for it,and we need to be better,play like we know we can,and yes we can do it,but they are going to throw everything at us and we have to be ready for that.

Context is everything, the meaning of the County game goes up by ten-fold if we win on Monday! I was definitely particularly passionate on the Friday when we won! I'm usually stoic at football games! Probably the most cause of optimism I've had as a Cov fan!

Monday is huge.

I'm 26 and it was the happiest I've ever left a stadium. I enjoyed Wembley last year but after we won it felt a bit like meh nothing really happens now. However the feeling inside that stadium last week was just special and actually meant something huge.

Last Friday we had to win 2 games in a row to go up. Now its down to one. I cant wait. (I know we could've drawn and won on pens but you know what I mean)
