Where would he rank amongst managers we've had since the days of Jimmy Hill?

Surely above many of those, as many of those were abject failures. Obviously below Sillett and Curtis and Milne and Cantwell, but where would you place him exactly?

If he achieves promotion again this coming season I would say he has to be right up there just behind Sillett and Curtis.

We gain promotion against this season and he will be a legend for sure.

Imho, it won't be until he's long gone that we can realistically judge his achievements. That said, I like the cut of his jib, and as things stand, he's top of the list for the best manager since 87 - in fact, he has two trophies under his belt with us, which must make him one of our most decorated managers?

Has he done as well as Phil Neal for example, probably not.

Don’t think we need to compare to be honest, he has done what he was set out to do but we won’t know if his objective was automatically promoted at the start of the season so only just meeting that target. We had a good cup run which was rare and proved you can actually do both. Even in league one we are at least a league under where we should be. A good manager can do it consistently so let’s see how next year plays out

Being a youngster at 38, I’d say he’s easily our best manager since Sillett.

In fact, I’d say he’s not far off our best of all time. I know we’re in L2 but he’s totally galvanised the club in a positive way.

* The club was literally at its lowest point when he took over.

* He’s changed the mentality of being a club reliant on loans.

* We ‘seem’ to be less of a selling club since he’s been here. Maybe just coincidence but...

* He’s got the best (and 2nd best) win % of any sole manager in our history.

* He’s transfer record is probably as good as we’ve had (given the resources).

* He’s handled the expectations of Cov fans well.

* He conducts himself admirably in the press.

* He’s won two trophies.

I know different eras mean it’s more difficult to compare, especially in different divisions but in my time, no manager has been as great as him.

If he gets us into the championship within 3 seasons he's up there with some of the best, and we haven't had many successful managers bar Sillett, Milne and JH of course. If he gets us to the premiership he overtakes two of those in terms of moving the club forward.
...if we don't get a ricoh deal none of it matters.

I started going when Big John was manager and since then there's only really been Nilsson and Dowie who offered a glimmer of hope.

The rest has been pretty dire, some spectacularly so. Has any other club had so many appalling managers like Reid, Slade and Thorn?

Robins has to be the best since Sillett. If he can build on this relationship between the players and fans and get the club up to the championship in the next couple of years playing in front of 25K he'll be right up there with Jimmy.

Well, By hook or by crook he managed to achieve what he set out to do at the start of the season, Even if he had to rely on getting into the playoffs with 1 game to spare, and then needed the worse display of refereeing in living memory to get past Notts County.
Let’s not forget though, that we were the biggest club in league2 and we’re favourites for automatic promotion, So you could argue that we actually underachieved.
Under Gordon Milne, (and many others) we were one of the smallest teams with the lowest budget,
And we’re always among the favourites for relegation, So we proberbly over achieved for many many years.
Next season will be a defining one for Robbins. If he can address our inconsistencies, we have a good chance of back to back promotions. Now that would set him apart from all but Jimmy Hill.

I don't understand this "where we should be" stance. The assumption that we should be anywhere in particular is perverse. Back to back promotions would be a massive achievement, but I don't expect it to happen.

Robins has a chequered record as a manager but is suited to this club.
His record is very good for us and he deserves time and support and our patience.
My opinion of him is that he had bad luck on occasions and had the gods shining on him at times.
In comparing him with others it must be said that he is head and shoulders, by record and as a man for this club, above his predecessors and I hope he can build his reputation in tandem with the clubs rise.

Since dropping from the top flight, we've appointed a long list of these type of managers who have already had their lucky day in the sun never to be repeated.......

....it appears we may finally have hit lucky and got a bang average manager who will have his purple patch whilst here.....

......with some massively overdue luck and a following wind, it could even possibly stretch another full season.

The squad disintegrated just in time for the new season, following on from our typical late season running out of steam. I guess you can possibly lay the personnel failures at his door, but the quality of the squad was transparently not good enough and relegation felt inevitable months before the season ended. Look how different the team that won the Checkatrade under Robins is to the team that beat Exeter; he knew that squad wasn’t fit for purpose.

Still, the first half of 15/16 was an exciting time, and we looked a great side, albeit not for a whole season.

He rates quite highly for me in the league he has managed us in. Has given the younger generation who have to google Phil Neal and perhaps others something to be proud of in what is a very different era.

This question has very different answers from the old guard vs our new generation of fans that’s for sure.
