Barnsley sold over 8000, honestly how can people claim we are a big club in the wrong division

If I lived in Sunderland,Bradford or Luton you would have nothing else to do.

I bet the crime rate statistics go well down when Sunderland are playing at home.

Oh dear

They were relegated that helps apparently

based on the anecdotal evidence of people I know and through reading this forum there seemed to be a lot of people getting STs who hadn't bothered for the last couple of years, obviously that hasn't panned out across the general population of the city.

You made another wierd argument about promotion and upward movement is not as much a positive as a club getting relegated.

That’s odd. Our sales slumped massively every time we got relegated
Wasn't a weird argument.

When we went down from the Premier many of us thought we would piss the Championship.

I'm sure many Sunderland fans will think they can walk League One.

It's not weird.

As I say, there's not really an argument to be had. It's disappointing, but to be expected.

Don't quite get why everyone is so surprised.

Still time yet. I would expect it to be higher, but can understand why it is not.

We should be the second best supported club at home next season behind Sunderland, with Portsmouth and Bradford after us but the reality is we will probably be fourth unless we get off to a flyer.

It is much like when the Telegraph ran stories about Barbara, 54 from Tile Hill who struggles to breath that CCFC were playing in Northampton it hurt her that much and she just wanted the club to come home. It was widespread about how damaging it was to the city and the people and when we came back we had 1 game of a sell out where everybody was bothered and then that was it.

ps. Barbara was a sarcastic example.

Sorry, Evo, I just don't get that argument.

Sunderland's average attendance last season was 27,600.

Ours was 11,200. Big difference.

Also, you have to factor in that Sunderland are red hot favourites, so a lot of their fans will be expecting a very big season from them and they have also reduced prices.

I couldn't fork out the ST in full, so had to do the payment option and I'm sure it's the same for many others.

You also need to factor in the amount of fans we lost. Yeah, they all came to Wembley, but that's just one game. Bit different to going up week in week out.

There's still time anyway. Be great if we can get to near 7,000.
I'm with you Otis. I think you have to look at the demographic of the City to understand our apparent low ST figures. I bet if you broke down those numbers that sign up you would find many are of retirement age and at least middle aged with some kids. I also bet that many of our support derives from the more working class areas where money is tighter now. The cost of living in the UK versus average wages is appalling in reality and by committing to an ST, they are generally also committing to all the other ancillary spending that goes with attending.
Our fan base has just endured 7 years of shite before this season and there is still so much distrust of the owners rightly or wrongly. Many will just be waiting for the usual fire sale of our best players, people are not prepared to gamble with SISU. I think a lot of the younger fans have been disenfranchised as it became a bit naff to be trudging up to the Ricoh to suffer a lot of humiliation and a toxic atmosphere.
My guess though is that there is a lot more positivity around and we sell a lot of match packages nearer to the season start if the core of the side is held together and we still look competitive.

The North East is a football hotbed and Sunderland will back their club because attending at the only alternative club for miles is unthinkable. Football is a religion in those parts too.

I don’t we’ve ever been prolific with ST sales have we? Certainly not in the last 20 years or so....therefore it isn’t a surprise likes Otis says, it just feels disappointing.

The fact fans is coventry have no money but they do in Sunderland?
Oh dear, cannot see where Otis has wrote that or even insinuated it. You seem to be applying your own twisted logic there.

Early yet. Your dedicated fan buys a season ticket early doors, others wait to see who we sign and who we sell. Imagine if we tie McNulty down to a new contract we would see a substantial increase in sales

That's not like Grendel to do that.

Not like him to just argue for the sake of arguing either.

McNulty is still contracted for next season when the season tickets are for though?

If we thought we’d piss the championship why did sales drop by 25% then?

The very first post on this lack of sales you said “people haven’t got the money”

Is that a valid reason and if it is why have Sunderland managed to sell 17,000 - where is that money coming from?

Well the only thing to do is wait and see what the final figure is before we kick the season off , and hope we sell a lot of match packages .
Disappointed personally at the moment , the people of this city must do more if they want a successful club
They can’t sit at home and wait for the premier league years to return

Not going to keep arguing. It's pointless.

It's clearly not just about money, but City fans are obviously more reluctant to part with any money they do have.

I know I struggle to pay for my ST and I know people who say they can't afford it.

Unless you are calling these people liars of course?

The majority probably all work at the Nissan plant and are on big money

that's the problem with slating non attendees it sounds like your having a pop at people who have very good reasons not to go. But I know people who spent a small fortune at Wembley yet have no intention of going next season, (though if we have some success they'll be back on the band wagon).
At the end of the day it's up to them but it's just frustrating when you're hoping the club can turn a corner.

Having supported City since 1966 and had season tickets on and off during the time, I'm certainly not investing in an ST until we prove to be a competitive team again. Parting with my hard earned on the back of the 1st succesful season in a very long time, wont induce me. I live in Norfolk so it's a good 60 to 70 quid every time I visit the Ricoh no matter what the price of entry is.
I'm considering becoming a member and buying a match package when they become available. To some of you on this thread, this makes me a part time wanker who ought to go & support somebody else. Couldn't give a toss frankly

It depend on the individual , but we all know people who spend 100 pound a month on sky with all the extras , we all know people who spend 200 a month on booze , 34 pound a month for a ST on finance is well within 10,000 people’s budget from a region of 4-600,000 people

There’s about 4000 cov lads that work at JLR alone lol , on enough money to buy season tickets for them and 2 friends

How are we going to be more competitive without the budget to pay for an improved team. Robins has been very clear about needing the fans back on side.

"I wont go because we'll be shit" = no money = us being shit is a self fulfilling prophecy. I thought we were finally turning a corner but obviously not.

Which is what I said at the start, we should really push on the finance thing. I bet loads of people don't even know there is that option.

And don't disagree with me, cos I have lost count of the amount of Coventry folk who still don't know the Godiva Festival even exists, let alone know it is free.

Saying you’re waiting until we are competitive is a non argument as we’ve never just won 2 trophies in 14 months , unless you mean consistently competitive which is hard for most clubs to be outside the top flight

I didn’t know it was free tbh lol

i Guess my version of loyalty and commitment is different to others , I did t have a pot to piss In for years but still followed , lads I see away from home week in week out have nothing but all their spare money Goes on city , true story .
The problem lies when people just don’t go at all , they moan about prices which is fair enough but why not go once every 4 games or something .
Instead they just don’t bother

Well there you go.

Always annoys me.

Sometimes I will pop into town first and get some snacks and drinks and everyone just seems to be carrying on as normal down there. You mention the Godiva and you would think you just spoke to them in Korean.

I have bumped into loads of people who have had zero idea of what the Godiva Festival even is.

I have two neices who have never ever gone.
One has young kids and even when I have told her it is free and there is free kids entertainment and a funfair and they can learn circus skills and see birds of prey and watch dancers and jugglers and comedy and clowns and so much more, she still just pulls a face.

Lazy barstewards we have these days.

It's like my missus. 'I'm not walking all the way to Jubilee Crescent! It's a long walk.'

She's right, it's 8 minutes.

All of my spare money goes on the City too. Pretty much every last single penny.

not at all, and this is where the problem with threads like this lies as they become divisive.
Like I said, there are plenty of people with very good reasons for not being able to attend regularly, and I would say living in Norfolk is one.

Remember that MR has walked out on us once.... Convince me that he won't do it again. Obviously you can't say he'll stay for ever and ever.
To me, football supporting isn't a neccesity while some of you seem to think it's tantamount to following a religion. I have limited resouces so my support is always going to be a part-time hobby.
