Local: Belonging or relating to a particular area or neighbourhood, typically exclusively so.

Rival: A person or thing competing with another for the same objective or for superiority in the same field of activity.

You do the math!!!

It's pretty clear that Cov have no natural reciprocal rivalry and it very much depends on what division we're in. The Villa fans I know certainly don't care a great deal about Cov. We're off their radar these days. Q Walsall and Shrewsbury fans joining this forum next year !! God help us ....

Bigger rivals than villa?
The majority of away games this season there's been numerous anti-villa chants, even though we haven't played them in eleven years. It's rare that you hear an anti-Leicester chant now at any game, other than when we play them. Lots of people don't hate Leicester at the moment even though we're playing them twice a year, whilst the vast majority still detest a team we haven't played in 11 years. Yeah it's clearly a much bigger rivalry.

its a rivalry we had in the prem because both teams had no one else(wba, wolves, brum were not in top league back then) ,yeh we sang shit on the villa etc and we had a bad record vs them so it was great when we won,but i never really disliked villa

since we have been down u wont hear villa fans remiscing, you wont see villa fans wind us up etc, they have real rivals to deal with now

so lets do the same instead of pining for the old days

Don't know any city fans who 'detest' Villa. A few fun days out in the 90s, otherwise most don't give a shit.

10 City fans where I work, all hate Leicester with a passion. What does that tell you? Nothing really, not particularly scientific. I've hated Leicester since that game in 85. I remember there being 11,000 at Leicester in 87 when it was still our main rivalry. It was then and still is, because like it or not, the ONLY club in country that has supporters who genuinely hate us is Leicester. May be not all of them, but a good few of them definitely. Can't say that about any other club.

We seem to have a complete oppisite view of the situation then. I'd say 99% of City fans I know hate Villa, and I know a lot that couldn't give a shit about Leicester. I also have friends and people who I work with who are Villa fans, funnily enough they don't fit your stereotype as they hate us. I'd say more Leicester fans hate us now than Villa cause of the time elapsed since we last played, but that doesn't really mean people should just change their minds and hate Leicester now does it, will we hate Walsall next season because we're not playing another Midlands club? And if most don't give a shit about Villa why are they constantly sang about and slagged off.

I grew up with the Wolves rivalry, Ferret, so if there is anyone I want to beat or for them to lose any games they play in, it's them.

My dad raised me up with an inbuilt hate of the Villa-Leicester/Birmingham/WBA etc never entered the equation in our house. It was always Villa-but as other folk have said, there's geography and history at play there; if you grew up in the top flight era and lived toward Brum, Villa would be your main rival. As I've seen about equal amounts of City in the top flight and Champs, it's even between Villa and Lesta-though considering that we haven't played Villa in a decade, anyone with a grudge there is just living in the past.

Not saying people should change their minds. The people who hated Leicester in the 80s I assume still hate them now. I never hated Villa, but I enjoyed our fixtures with them. Not really heard any anti villa chants either but I've only been to about a third of the away games this year, but certainly heard plenty of anti-Leicester chants this year in block 15 & 16.

I remember the early fanzine days in the early 90s. The old SBA mag used to have a lot of anti-Leicester stuff, and the Fox used to have a feature called 'Cov Corner' in which they would take the piss out of us, and we weren't in the same division. Where do you get the idea that the rivalry is a recent thing? If we get relegated this year, I won't suddenly look for a new rival, that would be absurd.

Incidentally, I work in Nuneaton and there are Leicester and Cov working together which may explain why it matters so much to the people working here.

Can't comment on the chants in block 15 as I don't go home games. I realise it was a bit of a rivalry back in the 80's (still never Leicester's main one, even if you argue it was ours.) I just can't remember them being mentioned once growing up, it was always villa, just seems to have become a happy clappy derby for little chavs since we've came down. Think it's also a geography thing aswell to be fair, if you live in Nuneaton/Hinckley/Bedworth it's Leicester, if you live in Coventry/Warwick/Leamington it's Villa.

Geography has a lot to do with it - Rugby is also a place where there is a mix of Cov and Leicester.

The derby games since we have come down have been pretty low key imo, the most intense derby games I can recall were in the 90s (probably because we hadn't played each other very much). Home game in 95 and cup tie at FS in 98/99 were epic.

I live in eastern green so St Andrews and villa park aren't much further away than the ricoh, also many relatives and close friends support Villa and birmingham.
So they are my biggest rivals.

totally understand, we in bulkington hate leicester with a passion due to the fact we are on the warwickshire/leicestershire border and the next village to us a mile up the road is in leicestershire, all of a sudden a different phone code and every further mile u go a horrible accent starts to develop, believe me the leicester fans this side starting from wolvey through to burbage/hinckley hate us with an absolute passion and cant wait to se us relegated

It's the same for you as it is with us.

It's down to geography and era

Although, I saw a Villa forum the other day and in a poll they actually voted us as bigger rivals than you ;)

I shall arise from my slumbers at 5:30 on Saturday so I can hate you for longer.
I must be due an ulcer.

I'll hopefully meet Badger and Coab for the fisrt time on Saturday but I'll be off sharpish to meet up with other Leicester fans from Rugby, we all have issues.
I'm worried now due to us not having won 2 on the bounce and your away record.
Something will have to give, hopefully not my spleen.

Spotted one comment saying that Leicester was a bigger rival, a lot saying they don't care (after 11 years I can hardly blame them) And then some like this:

"Anyone who ever made the short trip to Highfield Road will tell you what the atmosphere was like inside the ground. It was pure hatred, a derby atmosphere. And the FA Cup defeat at home? The atmosphere was poisonous that day and the defeat hurt like hell.
Also, last day wins at home in 91-92 and when they went down were fantastic days. Villa Park was really rocking. And what about the Savo hatrick in 1995-96?
An irrevelavance? So why are they regularly discussed?"

"Can't fkin stand 'em, worked with them and lived amongst them and they're as bad as noses.
I always enjoy playing and beating them, third in line behind dog shit & olbiyun."

"Cov are scum on the whole."

Basically because it's been so long many fans, especialy the younger ones, don't care about us. So what? I still fucking hate them. This is the same question on another villa forum http://www.villatalk.com/index.php?...coventry&sid=8935e1ff6c2af66924c1da456de74413
And here is one with many of them hoping we go bust http://www.heroesandvillains.info/forumv3/index.php?topic=42874.msg1743436#msg1743436

It really grinds my gears when they bang on about relegating us! Derby won at old trafford that day, which made the Vile game irrelavent. Angel Scored his first goal FOR A WHILE not ever.....F*****G muppets. It just reminds me how much i hate them when ever i read or hear them, I do not like Fester, and i do not mind that some see it as a rivalry. To be fair though, we lived through and witnessed the vile first hand, you can not explain that to "our" new breed. However they may get relegated and we may stay up (some hope!) Cov v Vile at the Ricoh.............then it will be who the fuck are fester lol

Their unbelievable arrogance is the worst thing about it, think they're such a massive club when they haven't won anything of importance since 1982. Oh and they insist on the "we don't care line" yet everytime I meet one it's Vermin Felcher this, Cov scum that. Horrible, heads up their own arses bastards.

I remember a league game against Villa at HR in the 90s played in front of 12,000. It was rarely the biggest gate of the season.

The sense of occasion did grow though as we went through the 90s. That Monday game where Robbie Keane scored the winner was memorable.

Disagree.

If we hadn't played Leicester in 11 years and then we go up and meet them in the Premiership I am sure the atmosphere would be bouncing.

Think the Villa rivalry is becoming a bit misty eyed because we haven't played them in so long.
