It Was All a Dream | By Raheem Sterling

A really good article aside from the hammering he gets from the press.

If people want to write about my mum’s bathroom in her house, all I have to tell you is that 15 years ago, we were cleaning toilets in Stonebridge and getting breakfast out of the vending machine. If anybody deserves to be happy, it’s my mum. She came to this country with nothing and put herself through school cleaning bathrooms and changing bed sheets, and now she’s the director of a nursing home.

I wish people would get off his back to be honest. He’s only 22 and a very gifted player. He does miss a few chances granted but wasn’t the only one on Monday night. He seems to be blamed for just about everything.

One of the positives of social media and sites like this where someone can address a reader directly is that it allows someone to put their own side across without going through the filter of whatever a newspaper wants you to think.

I don't know about others, but when he plays well I praise him and when he plays badly I criticise him.

He's had a lot of poor games for England.

Vending machines? Posh bastard. When I wer a kid we had to pull the cooker forward and whatever fell to the floor was ye dinner!
I spent the first 6 years of my life licking the mould off the kitchen walls.

If we were really good our mum would roast us some tree bark and we would wash it down with wood pigeon shit and toilet bowl water.

When it comes to having poor games for England he’s in very illustrious company.

Sorry I edited your post
No need. I criticise anyone when they have a poor game and have done so for Young, Stones, Alli, Lingard, Vardy, Dier.

Sterling has had a number of poor games for England and we have every right to be critical of that.

He just doesn't look the same player for England.

I don't give him any crap, but I will say if he has played badly.

i think he's a much improved player.
His movement and spatial awareness is exceptional - ever improves his finishing and he could be right up there with the best

It doesn't change my opinion of him. He has been criticised on his performances for England and rightly so.

He should be dropped for this game against Panama but I don't think he will be. It's set up for him to score a goal against this non-league outfit and then get picked and be a waste of a shirt in the Belgium game and beyond.

Before you think about shooting me down for it, I said that before the Tunisia game and it fired a few people up. It was sadly the correct call though, he wasn't good enough.

Wasn't good enough today either.

So frustrating.

What's that got to do with my post?

People are for some reason trying to justify his bad performances and bin off the criticism because he had a 'difficult' upbringing.

Worst player rated for both games now.
No-one is saying he's playing well. The question is whybsre you bringing up performances when this article is more you do with the stick he gets as a man?

If you read my last reply you would understand.

I guess he had a bad game (again) so it's convenient to try and talk about something else.

Really frustrating for me, because I am a big fan of his at club level.

Just not happening for him in an England shirt.

He doesn't deserve some of the personal shit he gets though.

Oh wow, had a few too many today? You can't handle it by the looks of it.

Sterling is a bit of a bellend, yes. The biggest thing is him on the pitch actually not being very good. One assist that was the only impact he made against a non league team. The other assist was a header from 3 yards out which he completely messed up, only to have his blushes saved by Stones. It was an awful miss.

Keep playing the race card if you want. Real racism loses it's value when people like you throw it around so often because you're losing an argument.

Go onto Google and type in 'Samaritans'.

Hopefully they'll be able to help you with some immediate mental health support which you clearly need right now.

You said that article hadn't changed your opinion of him. That surprises me as he articulately details the hardship and sacrifices he's gone through to make it in life.

Putting aside how you think he should play for England, how can you still think he's a bellend after reading that?

the guy just needs that bit of confidence a goal for England would bring. It isn't that he is playing that badly or lacking effort, it is that when he gets in the right positions he doesn't believe in himself enough. Get a goal and that will change. I think most people were willing that header yesterday to go in for him

Off the pitch...... too many people accept as truth the mutterings of a few sensationalist reporters looking for an easy story. The reality of many lives called in to question is often very different.

The article in the OP is a good one, and shows a young man with some good values.

I hope for his and England's sake he comes good at this world cup

I'm gonna stick my neck out here and say, if selected, he'll score at least two before England go home.

On the other thread, you both took my opinion and accepted it. Now you've read an article and because you know a bit more about his rough childhood, try and overturn that. It's almost as if because he has played badly (again), the need to fight his corner has gotten stronger.

He might have had a rough childhood, but that doesn't mean he is exempt from criticism when he is rubbish on the pitch, or misbehaves off it.

He has been the worst player on the pitch in the last two games. I called it, but got stick. Now it has come to fruition all people can say is 'the stick people give to Raheem is harsh.' Maybe sometimes people do go a bit hard on him for football or non-football reasons, but there are many people who are complete apologists for him and make every excuse in the book for his wrongdoings, on or off the pitch.

Ronaldo is extremely dedicated, and does loads of charity work. That doesn't mean he isn't a complete cock when he puts a shirt on. It is not a conspiracy that people didn't want Raheem to start. He has hit bottom of the ratings in both games for a reason.
