Is he going to last the World Cup?

Blokes a c**t! Couldn't care less! He fucking cheated us and yet every time I watch the world cup the camera focuses on him and the commentators big him up. Why do we hold somebody (regardless of how good they were) on such a pedestal after they cheated us! Blokes an embarrassment. Cheating, druggy, alcoholic yet he's held up as some sort of role model and idol!

Bollocks. Clicked on the thread hoping to hear he’d gone. He’s a vile creature but what a player. Doesn’t make him any less detestable though.

Calling him detestable is a pretty strong word and plenty of players cheat. Also plenty, British included, have had issues with alcohol and drugs.

I think he's great. Best part was the end of the show when Lineker and guests went very sombre and talked about Maradona becoming a laughing stock and tarnishing his legacy, I thought he'd done something gravely serious but no, it was this

Giving it loads to the opposition fans is the most normal everyday thing he's ever done.

Although I hate him for ‘86, let’s be honest if he was English and doing all of this he’d be lauded and put on a pedestal like a certain P.Gascoigne......

I think you're right, he has the record for a player being fouled the most times in a single game, 23 against Italy. He was clearly targeted so is that not cheating? And he faced that sort of treatment regularly as anyone who watched the World cups he was in will tell you.

I think he's a genius on the pitch but does come across a bit of a c**t of it. Apparently racially abused some South Korean supporters as well.

There's the one of him doing shots on a plane in the last few weeks too, sitting right next to his elbow is a bag of white powder. I assume it's talc for if he gets a bit sweaty, can't think of any other explanation

Bloke has lost the plot, put him in a room with loads of drugs and keep him quiet.

Well FIFA should put out a statement saying Mr Maradona is completely wrong and will no longer be welcome on the Fifa gravy train.
Take his World Cup pass away and ask nice Mr Putin to detain him indefinitely. Then hopefully the most obnoxious man in world football (even more obnoxious than Mr Blatter) will not be heard from or seen again.
Show some BALLS FIFA.

A cheat supporting more cheats. Sounds about right for him.

This is really an unfortunate thread.

Maradoma is not a role model and nor should he be.

What he was was an incredibly gifted footballer who gave everything for his team. Yes he was from the streets and a brawler but of his generation easily the best footballer - easily. Sublime goals, incredible feet - footballers like him are rare and for that he should be remembered and praised.

He should be praised and remembered for being a great player. He should also be derided for being a fat, coke sniffing cheating c**t.

if you're going to deride people for being overweight and sniffing coke you're going to get into a lot of rows following City.

That picture reminds me, there was the bit in the Colombia game where Sterling ended up with a giant defender all over him to the point that he turned on the ball while the player was hanging on his back, immediately made me think of this

Yeah, we all said the same thing.
