Just sat thinking (after watching the France v Argentina game), who would make my favourite all-time greatest international players (past or present). None from the Home Nations, just internationals. My list (in no particular order)………….
.
Zinedine Zidane
Jurgen Klinsmann
Thierry Henry
Christiano Ronaldo
Javier Mascherano
Andres Iniesta
Johan Cruyff
Eric Cantona
Pele
Lionel Messi
Xabi Alonso
Eusabio
Franz Beckenbauer
Mario Kempes
Roger Milla
Karl-Heinz Rummenigge
Lev Yashin
.
Who would you choose?

Tony Yeboah. Could strike a ball better than probably any other player from the last couple of decades.

Love the players from the past. Puskas, Di Stefano, Garrincha, Eusebio, Yashin,Gento, Pele, Muller, Cruyff, and all those North Korean team who were leading Portugal in the 66 World Cup at Goodison Park, only for Eusebio to bang in 4 goals !

Maradona - way above all others.

Socrates, Josimar

Negrete

Magath

Barnes

Ceulemans (can you tell the first world cup I can remember?!?)

Zidane, Trezeguet, Lizerazu.

Batistuta

Honourable mention for Tele Santana as manager. The last truly great Brazil side to watch?

And who could forget the wing wizardry of Paul Hall...

My two favourites were Hagi (Romania) and Stoichkov (Bulgaria) because they played for minor nations but they still left their stamp on the game.
Both were prone to doing the most outrageous things at the most unexpected times. They scored some sensational goals.
Two of the all-time greats who if they played for Italy or Brazil would now be household names.

Excellent list, I think we are probably of a similar football era, as I would definetely have Hagi and Scifo in my list as well. Some notable Itlaia 90 players on that list and rightly so.

I recall being present at Highfield road when the great Ferenc Puskas was introduced at half time when he was over with a Hungarian Youth team (if I recall correctly) watching a match. Probably mid 90's, does anyone else recall it?

The same when Bayern Munich came and played the mid season friendly in the late 1990's, and Lothar Matthaus was captaining the side. I got a chance to speak to him after he came off, and he was a real gentleman, as well as being a class footballer.

If by 'players' you mean actors...Rivaldo & Neymar are definitely up there.

There was something on the radio about the cheat neymar that he had spent 14 minutes lying down “injured” in this World Cup

Yes...in fairness in 1 match it was apparently deemed a genuine 1m 21s or something though. That said...the touchline theatrics was utterly despicable
