LBB, did you expect us to compete against Leicester yesterday?

To be honest, BSB, that was a game I had written off. They are one of the clubs that I categorise as having the resources in this league to be beyond us.

The Palace game is the big one for me....it is a MUST win...draw is no good.

They are a team we should be competing with.

But a bigger squad, LBB means that when some of the senior players take a dip in form or get injured, the squad is strong enough to rotate with quality.

Allow me to give you an example. Notts Forest and Dexter Blackstock. The game before Forest played us, they started with Miller and Harewood - both hugely expensive and experienced players. When it wasn't working for them, they changed against us, and even during our game, brought Blackstock off the bench who changed the game. Then the week later went on to score both against Brum to get an unexpected away win, and since then, they've been on a roll. That's a squad with depth and experience and one that's had money lavished on it.

Now, Forest are unique in having a very strong squad, but even compered with other clubs such as Watford, we invest half as much. Think about it, half as much. We could not afford to compete with Barnsley when they signed Drinkwater.

The nature of the investment in our playing squad really, really is that poor.

Ditto our investment in management - I hasten to add - hence the inexperienced Thorn; but please don't underestimate the way our playing squad is funded

I agree MMM with your investment analysis...I just expect(ed) more from the players we have.

I certainly expected more from Clingan and MacDonald....too many players give only the odd decent performance and too many switch off...and these are the basics from experienced pros.

To cap it off, two players who have probably been the biggest disappointment have been 'rewarded' with the security of 4-year deals....with AT's say-so....

Yes, of course investment is an issue, but there are also others, beside, which are just as significant.

Thanks for the example, anyway....did Drinkwater cost as much as Cody 'Super' Mac??? ;)

That's a start then. Statistics are 2 a penny and can be interpreted however you want-but a cold fact is that we have the 2nd smallest squad in the league, and a youth heavy one at that. Fatigue and injuries therefore affect us to greater extents-Clive Platt shouldn't be playing every week and he's clearly knackered as a consequence.

Because he's in the twilight of his career and hasn't got the legs. He was not signed to be more than a squad player.

If he can t play twice a week he should have his contract terminated. I suspect he would probably say he can

Well, we were only after him on loan when he was at United and joined Barnsley. He's since gone onto Leicester and was on the bench yesterday. With regards his eventual fee, it was £1m, so yes, some way north of Cody's fee.

I still think you'll find the players awarded contract extensions would have been at the instigation of SISU to protect their assets. That stated, I don't think having either player on extended contracts is a bad thing anyway - it's just that they shouldn't be as close to the first team as they are. Bell should be a bench player when you're down to bare bones. Within that context, I have no problem with him being here. His starting games is testimony to how little true quality we have.

Biggest let-downs? Eastwood and Clingan. By miles

So for him to keep the fans favourite Freddy and our star signing on the sidelines in our time of need is a complete joke...a 30-something journeyman keeping them out of the team, at a cost of £2m in fees and god knows how much in wages says a lot for me.....

With no Platt up front, what will be the Plan B...as in recent weeks, it seems to have been lump it to the Big Man!

It's clear for all to see he isn't fit enough to do that. I don't think he should play either but, except for Cody, there's nobody else.

Well if he isn t I d be asking why to be fair. Lots of players proving now that life doesn't end at 30. I like platt as well

Sheff, Freddy, Jeffers there's 3 options if you are admitting that AT has wasted £500,000...priceless money when investment is at a premium as MMM has rightly stated.

I like Platt, but surely we can't have a situation when he can only play every 7 days???

Doesn't he train in the week?

If so, why can't he play???

If Freddy isn't an option - which I don't think he is - then we should ask the management at the club what they are doing about this situation??

Is he being allowed to come in every day, do little training, pick up his 5-10k a week and fuck off home???

Has Platt himself said that he can't play that often? I know you've got people like Ledley King who physically can't, but Platt's not exactly a creaking old man and his game isn't exactly about dynamism and pace.

Because he's been used as a target man his whole career I'd imagine. He would be fine as an impact player but in either respect he's past it-he works hard, but he should not be our first choice.

It's a date of time really sitting back saying `would of, could of, should of!' On the pitch it is done from the first whistle to the last. Topics like this are good for pub talk in the summer.

It is not about the club allowing him to do it. So long as he meets the basic terms of his contract which would be to train and make himself available unless injured then he fulfills his contract. Perversly if the club took action they could be held in breach of contract and have to pay his contract up and perhaps compensation

bottom line is it stinks
