According to the CT, Eastleigh want to snap up Liam O'Brien
Would he take the step down to non league?
hang on I've sponsored one of his shirts, he can't go!!
If he set up a base when joining Portsmouth, close to home, too.Potentially. He'd be on good wages there as they've got money so I can't see that being a stumbling block.
Would be a starter there as well.
Would be a massive downfall. Very surprised if he’d go there?
Don't worry. He'll go and the shirt will be staying. Out of interest what is the shirt doing for sponsorship? Sorry slow day at work!hang on I've sponsored one of his shirts, he can't go!!
Did he sign a two year deal and if so would there be a fee involved?
Why? O'Brien struggled to cope with the standard of League Two when given his opportunities so surely the National League is about his level?
I don’t think he did struggle?
He made two errors and got dropped, or does that class as someone struggle to cope now?
Well yes, because both of his errors led directly to goals and we were only maybe 3/4 games into the season. There were a few cases in cameos after this where it was clear he was not good enough to wear the No.1. shirt. This was made apparent by the fact that he never remained as our starting GK. Even during the odd game where Burge was injured, ill etc, he'd never retain his place. So clearly MR thought the same.
If we are pointing to individual errors last year (irrespective of the number of games played), I’d argue that Burge took that accolade hands down. Neither are good enough for a number 1 position in league 1 if we are serious about promotion.

Good on him, surely, if he'd rather play first team football than sit on our bench?
Near home (or at least where he's familiar with I assume,). Eastleigh relatively generous payers for non league, and he could be back in the league the next season, as first choice keeper... something he's not managed to be for a fair while.Only reason I could see him leaving although I do think he’d want to play at a better standard / level than what Eastleigh are at
Come on, that more often than not happens when keepers make errors; the team conceded.
The only reason he didn’t retain his place after a ‘cameo’ aka cup game, was because Burge was clearly MR preferred choice for league games and would only have lost his place through injury or consecutive errors, the same O’Brien was.
And he pulled off equally as good saves as Burge did, at the same time as making errors like Burge did
To be replaced by ???
It can happen where keepers are overshadowed by their No.1. but I don't think this is the case with O'Brien. O'Brien was originally brought in to start, I think MR even said this at some point, yet he lost his place due to the fact Burge was better and when given the opportunity he didn't impress enough to make MR think twice about giving him back the No.1. shirt.
How did he? I can't remember the games off the top of my head but there were two or three where Burge made saves that were genuinely top class. Now he's by no means anywhere near a top class keeper but to imply that he's as good O'Brien is baffling. O'Brien looks solid on his day, I'll admit that, but his alarming inconsistency is the whole reason why he never pushed his way back into the frame. I'm guessing you don't rate Burge whatsoever?
O’Brien made saves just as good. It was the mistakes that cost him. As for ‘alarming inconsistency’ I’m not sure how you can be consistent or inconsistent in so few appearances
As for Burge, I’ve said all last season I accept he has improved but ta because I believe he has found his level. I’ve never been his biggest fan, I think he’s just as calamitous as some other keepers we’ve had over the years. Yes he’s a good shot stopper, and has made good stops, check a trade final and play off final saves were amazing, I’ll admit that, but over the course of a season he still gives me the jitters.
I think we should just agree to disagree on this one or would we could be here for a while
Who’s that then?If it happens you would have a similar jinx to that of another fellow fan I know very well
