Think we would win either of the knockout games, then it's the proper teams, and to be fair you can't hope/expect easy games at that stage. I'm going for an optimistic semi final appearance based on the positivity needed to be a CCFC fan!

Bumped my own post just to show that one in every ten of my predictions is correct!!! Nick - can you make my post a sticky?!

I wasn't too hopeful, because I felt Southgate was the wrong man for the job, but as soon as we got here I fancied our chances.

Being a City fan, I was negative before the tournament. Then I was negative about the group stage. Then I was negative about our quarter final. Then I was negative about our penalty shootout. And now? I'm still negative. I mean, heck. Why change a winning formula!?

Haha. I'm pretty much the same. 2 up with a minute left against Sweden and I was explaining to my Mrs how we could still lose this.

This time tomorrow night England will be out the World Cup and having to play Belgium again on Saturday! (Is that positive enough for you!?)

Cleaned your grandparents windows today. They told me your missus is flying out to Moscow on Thursday, hope you get to see England in the Final on Sunday, which I'm sure you will. They both look well, and think the world of you, they are good people.

Is she? Cheers for the warning. I'll get the other lads to hide our house guests! Yeah thats right. She's getting a third place ticket if we don't win tomorrow so she'll see us play in one game out here. Thanks btw. Much appreciated.

It's unchartered territory for 28 year old spring chickens like myself. A team with Kyle Walker as centre back and Ashley Young as left back in the semi finals while Germany go out at the group stage. Combine that with City getting promoted and it's proper twilight zone stuff.

Saying that, if we make it past Croatia then the likes of Mbappe and Pogba will chew this team up.

Well I watched almost the entire France vs Belgium game.
It could have gone either way. One somewhat lucky strike for France.
I honestly thought Belgium would equalize but they were firing blanks.
If England get through against Croatia, I believe we could upset France.
We just need Kane and Sterling to up their game a few more notches.

Were gonna get spanked by France in the final aren’t we? Not sure how I feel about that.
Not necessarily.

A team that had the likes Nasri, Aguero, Tevez, Toure, Kompany, Zabaletta and Clichy, lost to Wigan in the FA Cup final in 2013.

ANYTHING is possible.

On his day Alli is a matchwinner. He has not been on his best form, but only needs to come good in that one match(we of course haven't even beaten Croatia yet!!).

We in fact, have had a few players who haven't been at their best (Alli, Walker, Sterling) and yet here we are!

Kane has the ability to be a match winner, Alli and Sterling too and so too, Rashford.

We need a game plan, to stick to it and to make sure our dead ball opportunities count.

IF we were to make it to the final I can very much see France giving away a penalty at a corner or freekick.

This has been a World Cup of surprises. Can we win the World Cup? Absobloodylutely!!

I think if a player is in a team purely to distract the opposition than you have to question why they cannot do anything else. It's like the special kid in class award or something.

At the start of the tournament people weren't telling me he was in the team to do that and this was what would win me over. They were telling me he would score plenty and assist a lot of goals.

That's not happened so now the goalposts have moved. The obsession with defending him over everything is something I worry will be our teams downfall.

We have been good this tournament, but we have ridden our luck against very average opponents.

Firstly, what 'other people' told or tell you (& I agree his finishing has been dreadful) matters not. Southgate picks him to do a job...& he has taken some bold steps already on picking squads. If RS isn't quite fulfilling his his job...sure Southgate will stick with him. If he is nowhere near doing it...he would drop him. That could upset the balance & dynamics of the team & squad though.

Secondly, they can only beat what is in front of them...& so far they have when it has mattered - something previous squads have so ofte failed to do.

Thirdly, I suspect the obsession is yours. Obsessed with perfection...or covering all your bases so you can say 'told you' - whichever it may be you look for the weakness/negatives even though you want the same outcome as me.

Bet we will all forgive & forget Sterling's shortcomings thus far if he scores the winner in the final. Even if it's a simple tap-in

Exactly, he won't drop him because it's a winning team and it would also destroy his confidence even more.

They can only play what's in front of them, which is why I say be cautious. So many people think we are in the final already.

It's not an obsession. I have long believed this guy is not up to it but keep trying to give him chances. He keeps wasting them (not even literally but by performances too). I wouldn't have to repeat myself a thousand times if people weren't covering their eyes and pretending he was amazing.

I would love us to win the world cup and if he scores then that is great. It's not about covering all bases, it's about spotting your weaknesses and acting on them before it is too late. This is one of our flaws at the moment and I find it incredible some others are unable to see it.

I've got a funny feeling about tonight. Definitely no where near as confident as I was against Sweden which I thought would be a nailed on victory.

I wonder if our train has gone as far as it can go now. Mind you, come kick off time I will probably turn super confident again!

the 11 doesn't change because its winning, and its winning because of all 11 players wether certain individuals are firing on all cyclinders or not.

This World Cup has a special story, yet to be written, for Raheem Sterling.
I've just got a feeling he will do something special either tonight or Sunday. (touches wood and strokes lucky rabbits foot)

If you base it on last night the winners of both Saturday and Sunday’s games will come from our semi. It’s not that simple though. All 4 teams left are capable of destroying any side on their day. A prediction I will make is if Kane, Mbappe or Modric score and their team wins the final they’ll win the Balon d‘Or.

It's probably in Neymar's contract that if a team mate wins the Balon d'Or they have to give it to him.

I'm thinking England 3-2 win in extra time.

The Croats will be cramping up something rotten after 100 mins.

It'd be nice to break the duopoly of Ronaldo/Messi........especially if its Kane!

Last English winner was Michael Owen......back in 2001.....thats 2001......surely that makes everyone feel old

Wish Rio Ferdinand would button his lip though.

Said this morning that we have nothing to fear from Croatia and should beat them comfortably.

How many 'comfortable' matches have their been in this tournament exactly?

Could well prove to be a tight and close encounter. I am certainly not expecting us to win comfortably!

Have to disagree on that. Thought France looked really good last night and did a good job on Belgium without really getting into 3rd gear, I think the quality they posses will see them win it.

Belgium could easily have won too though.

We would definitely need Sterling, Kane and Alli to play really well against the French, Lingard too.

The same way Croatia should have 'comfortably' beaten both Denmark and Russia. They need not be feared, but they have to be respected. They're a good side.

God, the nerves are sickening now!

No nerves from me.....won't get them till K.O.......

Fortunately my somewhat unexpected hangover is finally fading now.....by the time I've gone the long way home on me bike, I 'll be ready for a pre-tea beer & kick-about in the garden.....

This is gonna be a very good evening folks.......enjoy yourselves.....its later than you think!
