When you support clubs like Pompey & Coventry there are more downs than ups, or so it would appear. I love football in general and I like a good old football natter but the two teams I really do care about are Pompey & England, and there is definitely more downs than ups with them two. I am writing this post just after we have lost in the semis at the World Cup and I am a little cheesed off to say the least and to top it off it seems Chaplin will be leaving our club, probably to you if he goes. Kenny Jackett is thinking of bringing in Mo Eisa who will cost £1.5 million so I would assume Chaplin will be forced out the door. The player himself will need to be convinced to leave because he has been at Pompey since he was 7 and loves the club and he will be gutted to leave. But he has talent and needs to be playing regularly and he will give you lot some excitement for sure.
On the plus side, Sunderland fans reckon you’ll finish 5th this season.

Don’t worry...we’ll look after him.
Pompey have done alright though...anything but dull! Two cup finals, a couple of promotions, 18k gates, lassana diarra et al entertaining everyone for a while. We’d dream of swapping our last 15 or so years with you!
My old man has supported them for the best part of 65 years and for the most part no success. He wouldn’t trade in the gaydamark/mandaric/redknapp era for anything...despite the Icarus type impact it’s had on your club. New owner ‘Walt Disney’ will see you alright too.
You want mediocrity and painful, ‘death by a thousand paper cuts decline’, you need to start watching us more regularly...albeit last season was immense and this year we’re gonna batter this league!

Haven't had the time to read all 9 pages of this forum topic, but what I think is odd, is that if CCFC are committed to "going for it" in L1, why would we wish to be using up any of the £1.2m from McNulty buying an unproven 21 year old for £250-£500k thus helping Portsmouth buy their real target of Eisy from Cheltenham, when in fact, we should be adding to the £1.2m rec'd by a further £300k (money from Madison sell on ) and buying Eisy instead .. someone who by all accounts, looks the real deal ? One shows real determination to replace McNulty ... the other doesn't, in my humble ?

Maybe Robins doesn't want to spend so much on a single player and could probably get 2 strikers in?

Why? Boddy isn't in Spain, they can talk on the phone and agree the offer being sent to Pompey/the player.
That's possible but every single signing since Robins arrived has been announced at Ryton with a press release hosted by the manager
Robins appears to be calling the shots now so I'd be surprised if there is any change especially as they return in a few days

Didn't Widdrington have to do the pictures with a couple of players last year? Robins can still write a statement wherever he is.

Yeah .. maybes ... just think one real quality striker (accepting an injury then stuffs us completely) with having Biamou and Ponti would be the best option ... someone highly rated with a proven track record ... ? Who'd be a football manager eh ;-)

It could just be that Robins thinks Chaplin is better than Eisa, or at least a better fit for our team. At the end of the day his job rides on the decisions he makes so you have to trust his judgement.

Plus someone needs to convince the player that he actually wants to come here - Im assuming terms (wages - contract length) and the way we would want him to play have not been discussed yet.
I doubt Portsmouth would give him permission to talk to any other club until a fee has been agreed.

If you look at the amount of time between the announcement of the bid for McNulty being accepted and Reading announcing the signing I think you can be pretty sure they'd already had talks with McNulty's representatives.

He could do all of that over the phone / video.

Business shouldn't stop because of a pre-season trip. Imagine if somebody who was in the country then hijacked it because Robins was out of the country.

What’s the point of that though? We can’t play two shit strikers in place of one decent one. We’re still only allowed 11 men.

I mean by that logic why not get 100 non league strikers in for £10k each?

Said at the start we should just offer all the McNulty cash for Eisa, same terms.

What is it based on that they are shit?

Using your logic, Biamou is better than McNulty.

Mannnn everyone on this group is obsessed with Eisa, so boring. Others players do exist and whos to say Chaplin won't be better?

Eisa hasn't scored a goal in League 1, Chaplin has.

The obsession is like James Collins last year and how McNulty wasn't as good because he didn't cost loads for the transfer.

The telegraph have run loads of articles about eisa and now people have it stuck in their head

Should we go for James Collins how much would he cost us? Local lad should make the step up to league 1 could be better value than Chaplin. He scored about 20 goals last season

Isn't there a reason he seems to always drop back to league 2?

Wrong type of player in my opinion. Could be half decent with someone like Chaplin but never really done it at this level.

If we cant land Chaplin perhaps we could go for - Laurel or Hardy - Abbott and Costello or the Chuckle Brothers!

I suppose somebody has to take a gamble on him and give him a run of games in league 1. It will be interesting to see how he gets on with Luton in league1 If we don't sign him

He knows where the back of the net is anyway we could do worse depending on the price. He could be a good foil for ponti

Given that many of Robins' signings received very little publicity beforehand, I wouldn't be surprised if Chaplin becomes a smokescreen and instead we sign a striker completely off the radar. Too much being played out in public for my liking.

Pompey are playing hard ball. They won't release Chaplin till they have a replacement. They are doing the right thing. Makes you wonder why we didn't have a striker lined up to replace McNulty as soon as he left. Maybe we should have done the same?
