I can't be the only person on here that used to check Teletext for the Clubcall rumours advert almost daily as a kid in the 90s?!

Always utter bollocks or pushing the to the very limits of the truth but for a lad not growing up in Cov it was one of the few places that even mentioned us!

You'd wait for the page scroll around to one line of text saying something like:

BRAZILIAN ACE SET FOR SKYBLUES

I'd excitedly run through all the possibilities of who this 'ACE' might be. Ronaldo... Romario.. Juninho... Rivaldo

Obviously I wasn't stupid enough to pay the £1.50 per min rate so id just have to let my imagination run wild

Then a week later id find out we'd signed Isaias.

I mean I was never pleasantly surprised.
Stupid but I loved it still, I guess there was just less to do back then or something

And cable TV, channel 10, was that Sky Blue TV or something like that? A channel dedicated to the mighty sky blues?

Yes it was on Coventry cable, can't remember if it carried on when NTL took over

I ended up racking up a huge phone bill when I was a kid calling up Clubcall. I can still remember the number, 0891 12 11 67 or something like that. No idea how much is was but the good old Irish wooden spoon was brought out that night!

I used to play some kind of football management game by post. You'd be sent your squad and have to fill in your team, send it away and wait for the results to be posted back, and actually phoning people to arrange transfers thanks to the contact details being sent with the league table. Simpler* times

Should have been via Fax to make it authentic.

This still runs to this day, but in the form of online forums rather than playing by post. I run a website that uses software called ESMS which is Electronic Soccer Management Simulator. It moved from play by mail, to play by email, to now being entirely forum based where managers login and create their teams and do transfers online.

I won't advertise the site here as not sure if that would contravene the forum rules, but anyone is interested I can send you a link via personal message.

i copped a few for running up a phone bill or two on Clubcall. It used to have that long intro (jacking up the bill) before the actual news of which about 10% was accurate!!!
