Well I think that's just about it for us (7 Viewers)

The problem I can see is yes we do have to play all the teams around us at the bottom, but so does everyone else. There are a lot of 6 pointers coming up in the next few weeks so a few teams can really pull clear. The problem for us is we don't play these teams for a few more weeks, by which time the pressure could be huge. We all know how well CCFC preform under pressure!

At the end of the day, Otis is allowed to think what he likes. BUT the league is so poor this season I think we have every chance whilst we have better goal difference and we are only 3 points from safety. I would believe we have a chance even if it were the Southampton game we were heading into on Saturday.

Arrrggh! It doesn't matter about penalties! They are goals. Everyone were saying how much of a threat Palace would be last night and they got a point because of a....?

It's points on the board that matter, not how we get them. We don't have enough points on the board so I don't care how many penalties we score. Like I said, it's easy to take results in isolation. We beat Utd at Old Trafford the other season, did that make us one of the best teams in Europe? No. Doncaster's away win doesn't make them invincable away from home either.

Goals win matches. We've scored 7 goals in 17 away games (That is shocking)

It’s been 8 games since we’ve scored 2 goals from open play. So you don’t think that’s an issue?

Can’t you see the relevance of teams getting results from other teams. It shows how poor we were in certain games which will come back to haunt us.

Bare in mind we played a Forest team who previously didn’t win at home in 3 months. Also played a Leicester team who have failed ALL season to win 2 league games on the bounce. Both ‘hoodoos’ finished after beating us.

Just think we need to take the Sky Blue tinted glasses off that's all.

We talk of winning all our home games. Last night that didn't happen did it. Chalk one off. Almost impossible ask for us to now win all our remaining home games. Very, very tough game on Saturday against Brum and a draw would be excellent ....... well normally it would be yes ..... but not this season and not now. We need to win.

We talk of getting an away win and people keep saying it will happen. We said that before Brighton didn't we. And Peterborough and Forest though and Leshtur ...........

There has not even been any hope the last few games. Not since Blackpool away, when we were winning with just a few minutes remaining. Seems like then we have lost all heart and our last 3 away games have been 2-0, 2-0, 2-0.

Yep, we will win an away game won't we. :thinking about::thinking about:

Bookies are saying we are going down. Not often wrong are they.

I'm not pessimistic, just a realist.

I think people will still be saying "It is ok, we have x amount of games to play" in the summer. Wait and see what happens in the other teams games in hand (Doncaster have 2, a potential 6 points over us). If pompey win they will go above us on goal difference.

Excellent original post Otis.

Our away form is actually pissing me right off. To have not won even one single game away from home is nothing short of a disgrace. The management and players should take a good long look at themselves. For me it highlights how fragile the mental strength of the players is. If I was playing at a pro level I'd look forward to the away games more because I'd love to go into an opponents back yard, against the odds with thousands of home fans willing us to lose and nicking the points, unfortunately I think the players are merely turning up expecting not to win, and as a consequence they are being rolled over without any fight.

otis you said you would be happy with 2 draws from palace and brum:thinking about:

We don't need to win all our games, we need to accrue more points than the teams below us and win one more than the team above us. This may mean we only need to win 1 more game this season.

We also have less games left, so less of a chance to get points. :(

All of us bottom feeders are where we are because we have struggled all season. Why would the other teams start picking up points, when they have failed in recent times to the extent that we have made up an 8 point deficit?

I did indeed. And a draw would have been a good result ..... IF Bristol had have lost like most of us were predicting and Millwall hadn't have won and Donny and Forest had been a draw or a Forest victory like most of us predicting. I said a draw would have been good because I was predicting we would have been a point closer to safety after last night's games.

As results didn't go our way last night, a draw was a very bad outcome and now has made Birmingham a must win. Just how many times do we keep saying that.

You have to play your best team to grind out wins that clearly isn't what thorn is doing we had to good players on the bench and Freddy in a suit I think thorn falls out with people and then drops them to show he's the boss, however it won't get us points what I really don't get is why not get eastwood fit and get him playing the last group of games his and monkeys pace would cause havoc and play platter just behind the front two too flick balls on,we've got nowt to lose by going for it cos were not gna get much out of teams around us quite simply they will just defend and catch us on the break

Yes but we can't go into games thinking "Ahh it is ok, other teams around us are crap too and we will still be in touching distance if we lose tonight"

It needs to be:

"This is a MUST win game tonight, we can't afford to lose it"

Must win, because after Saturday we have two away games in succession.

Our away form is just completely and utterly shite and there is no getting away from that. 7 goals in 17 games. That is just embarrassing and we are close to our worst ever run of away defeats since 1926!

That tells you everything you need to know why Saturday is a must win game. A must win because the odds are very much on losing the next two. If we lose to Brum that will be a sequence of 1 point gained in 3 games with 2 away games to come. That doesn't fill anyone with confidence surely.

What odds that Marlon will score on Sat? What sort of reception will he get? Personally, I wish him well but I'm sure there will be a small faction in the crowd singing some sort of kiddy songs against him. :jerkit: 's

I won't appluad him because of his off field misdemeanors, but I won't boo him either as he was a good player for us.

Just won't do anything.

I know I should do the same, but I'm guilty of getting caught up in the emotion of it sometimes :(

The people who will boo and sing "she said no" will 99% be the ones who didn't want him here because he was a "rapist" but when he scored sung "he scores goals"

Can I just say in conclusion (as this thread has appeared to irk some), most people were saying that Palace was a must win. We didn't win and most other results went against us.

Therefore we obviously didn't win and Bristol did and so did Donny. If Last night was a must win how come there is still hope? If there is, fine. But then in that case last night was not a must win.

i said a draw would be good based on the other results and got shot down by a few for saying so as it was a must win game.

If it was a must win how do we stil have hope? That was kind of the point I was trying to put across. As for myself, I have thought we have been all but down since Christmas (7 points adrift, knew that Juke would be sold in Jan, no investment, no money for players, small squad, blooding kids and a novice manager at the helm).

Don't think that makes me any less of a fan, who in adding up all the factors came to the conclusion that we will be relegated.

I won't believe we're doomed until it actually happens. This may of course end up a triumph of hope over experience.

If someone believes we are, they're not suddenly failing to support the team or will automatically take some kind of 'told you so!' pleasure if it occurs.

It goes without saying that i hope I am wrong.

Just think if I am right and have been right all along since Christmas, I will have had much longer than many on here to go through the grieving process and come to terms with it all. :)

May just open up a Sky Blue counciling service in the Summer.

I think you have to have two things to support coventry city fc

firstly Hope - that strange feeling that we all get at the start of the season that makes us think "maybe this year will be better" Essentially it is what keeps us going. It is what we all have to hang on to right now and bolster it with our support of the team.

secondly Realism - that feeling at the end of the season that hits us between the eyes when yet again we find the team under achieves and the club as a whole lets us down. Some of us get to realism earlier than others there is no wrong in that, its an individuals opinion nothing more. The only effect we can have on realism is to keep supporting the team.

Somewhere during the course of the season hope meets realism and crosses over - I think we are now being realistic in thinking relegation looks most likely and cling to the hope something will change that avoids it.

Hope, support and realism are not mutually exclusive

Have to say i tend to agree with Otis on the relegation liklihood. The recent results and performances against Forest, Leicester, Palace and Barnsley (even despite winning) say to me something has cracked in the spirit of the team. Will be a sad end to the season I fear

We seem to lack a bit of spirit.

Not even sure that is Thorn's fault either. Think a defeatist attitude has began to take hold and being in the bottom 3 since October must have played on the players' minds and had them thinking or doubting their ability to get out of this.

Hands up if you'll stop supporting the CCFC next season if we are in League 1.

Thought so!!! Just stop worrying what happens. Makes life easier! We'll always support them. And the world's going to end on Dec 21 this year anyway!!! LOL!

Nah it isn't all over yet, just means we will need to win where we don't expect to. I think we need 3 points from the next 3 games to keep us alive, unexpected things happen in football such as Bristol beating Leicester. We will need to win an away game, again unlikely but not impossible.

Pessimism - optional.
Realism - optional.
Hope - springs eternal.

Still in our hands people. There is no science to this. It's football and while we remain in a position to survive then anything, absolutely anything can happen. It's quite possible we may not win away all season but still survive.
In a twisted sense I'm excited! We have something to play for each week. That's entertaining enough and certainly provides for plenty of copy on here!

Unfortunately its not in our on hands though. We win all our remaining games & everyone else down there wins all their games (minus their games against us of course) then we will go down.

But everyone can't win there remaining games apart from us as they have to play each other sometime i.e Forest have to play Bristol still.
1)Forest lose so we can catch them up
2)Bristol lose so we can catch them up if we win at there place
3)Draw we can catch Bristol up if we win at there place

All 3 scenarios means survival is still in our own hands

There will be more fixtures like above I am sure.
