Mucca Mad Boys You asked to be corrected if your wrong about Collins. He scored 25 in 79 games playing in div. 1 just under 1 in 3 consistent with his career average good strike rate . If we got that guy like we could and should have done last year (local boy), that would meant business . Nearly 2 weeks ago I asked why we are waiting for Chaplin no nearer getting a replacement if you were the manager of a team would you want to let your 1st or 2nd scorer go so close to the season why do people on here think we will get a replacement now . I think we will have to go with want we have got . If we can cover the 28 goals don't know time will tell.
Fair enough on the James Collins stats. In retrospect, why would signing Collins have ‘meant business?’ He cost (about) £300k and McNulty scored more goals and in more games than Collins. Assuming we signed him, 300k is a lot out of the budget which meant we would’ve had less budget to play with — after signing Andreu, Robins more or less said the budget had been pushed very close to its maximum. Don’t get me wrong, he would’ve been a good player for us, but it wasn’t like he was better than McNulty... who was signed on a free.
On McNulty, he was sold before the first preseason game, which has given Robins plenty of time to figure out his options. Pretty early on, Chaplin was identified as that replacement — broke even before McNulty’s departure was confirmed. Even if the specifics aren’t entirely correct, it was established very quickly that he was identified by Robins’ as McNulty’s replacement.
If the Chaplin transfer is still in play, it’s well worth holding out for him, even if it means going down to the wire because for Robins’, that’s his guy. Robins must be sorting out alternatives if this deal falls through.
