Usually find that most people who are shocked that this stll happens are your average happy clappy, soccer am, "football was invented in 1992" sort of berk. On a side note, heard that a lot of City old boys will be out and about, could get quite nasty. On the plus side at least it's more fierce a rivalry than Leicester.

So as someone who's clearly ignorant and uneducated, what am I missing when I condemn running battles on Earlsdon high street in front of families, or the fact that people are wary of bringing their children to a game for fear of being caught up in trouble? Genuine question, this. I'm happy to see the error of my ways in the face of some actual justification outside of mentioning loyalty and tradition or what have you.

Terrible post.. the fact that it is against the law means we know all we need to know. These people should just fuck off into a field and fight and leave the football to people who want to watch it.

There are plenty of people that have broken the law but I don't brand them 'scum'. Did drink before you were 18? Did you ever gamble before 18 years old? Have you never got 1mph over the speed limit? Would you brandish people for doing these things? They have also broken the law.

These people want to watch the football, there is some sort of idea that they just turn up without watching the game and then attack families. Absolutely ridiculous. The Millwall flag which says "Eating Babies Since 1885" sums the way people view that particular element of football fans.

I'd hope so, but this thread alone has people wary of bringing kids along. They may be overly cautious and are actually in no danger whatsoever, but the threat is obviously still felt by some.

That's fair enough, but when normal fans do get affected it becomes mindless thuggery. I'll happily acknowledge that it's a tiny minority of cases, and all the best to the people who consent to being involved in the culture.

I'd disagree myself but with Blues, if you want trouble you'll get it because they are more 'active' and always bring massive numbers over here for some reason. But there's never been that fierce rivalry which you'd associate with Leicester or Villa.

Football was a working class game until Sky decided to put millions in.

You ask the majority of fans if Football is better now than 20 years ago and most would disagree.

Granted its nice to take kids to the game without witnessing trouble but at the same time, if you think middle class folk will improve the game then you are deluded.

Football upto 1996 was a working class sport. Since then the whole football supporter and the sport in general has changed IMO for the worse.

Football has turned into a sport about money. Not about the game itself. You have Sky promoting their own agenda and not the sport.

You have working class fans been priced out of going. Many can’t afford a ticket and many families can’t afford to go because it’s such a expensive day out when you have kids in tow.

If it carries on the way it’s going. In 25 years you’ll have a whole generation not interested in football because of the above.

That’s why in my eyes moving the attention from attracting working class folk to middle class has spoiled the whole experience of a day out and the sport itself.

I spend as more on travel, parking and refreshments than my ticket, which I'm sure is true of many of you. Its such a cliche to say that it has been taken away from the working man. The transition imo is that its a nicer place to attend for women and families. Yes its less tribal and in some ways we have lost something but I think we've gained more than we have lost.

I'm personally saying football has changed for the worse over the past 20 years nothing remotely to do with Football hooligans? That's why you get more 'fans' down there local watching soccer saturday then down the match becasue its cheaper to get pissed then watching city.

The whole expereince is not what i used to enjoy when we were at Highfield road and before anyone starts im talking about the matchday experince i.e pub, standing in the west terrace, enjoying a atmosphere, been able to act jack the lad and leaving knowing you've spent 90 mins having a laugh with your mates. Nowadays you can't even fart without getting a ban.

If you take the price of an average top tier football match ticket (with the freedom of choice to sit or stand and have a smoke and a pint whilst watching the game) from 30 years ago, then take into account inflation etc. The average ticket for a Premiership football match between say Chelsea & Liverpool should be £15, instead it's closer to £50. Blues vs Villa last season at vile park, would have cost a family of four blues fans over £200 just for their tickets. I could pay less to go to the cinema and seat in a warm, comfy chair and be pretty much garunteed to be entertained, or I could pay at least triple the price to go and be forced to sit on a cold plastic chair and watch us lose. Ironically the working class sport of football is now more expensive than some of the west end operas. We're treated like shit by everybody. It's not a crime to support your team, but the price of it is fucking criminal.

I think he was referring to those who were turfed out in the first half for 'aggressive singing', not those involved in the 2nd half incident.

Except now we're looking at Liverpool, Man Utd, Man City, Arsenal, and Chelsea-rather than a single team for the glory hunters, we have closer to half a dozen. I've been able to get tickets for the Reading and Leicester games at £17 each by virtue of being 21, but the cost of transport was even more than the ticket. Everybody is feeling the pinch, except the kind folk who helped to create the problem in the first place.

Absolutely not. Its called supply and demand and we're firmly in the entertainment industry. Compare it with an overpriced concert ticket. If they were not filling the grounds they couldn't demand the prices. At the Ricoh we offer poor value for sub-standard low level football, hence we charge the prices of a tribute act. Chelse v Liverpool or whatever the other quotes were are in line with the top performers today and comparable with a Take That concert (yeah I know I'm out of touch with music too).
