Blues...off the pitch (1 Viewer)

Anybody who brands hooligans as "mindless chavs" really needs to educate themselves in matters before slagging people off with their ignorant opinions. Usually find that most people who are shocked that this stll happens are your average happy clappy, soccer am, "football was invented in 1992" sort of berk. On a side note, heard that a lot of City old boys will be out and about, could get quite nasty. On the plus side at least it's more fierce a rivalry than Leicester.

Waheey, congratulations on being the first to bring out such an original and amusing stereotype.

Ho ho ho.

So as someone who's clearly ignorant and uneducated, what am I missing when I condemn running battles on Earlsdon high street in front of families, or the fact that people are wary of bringing their children to a game for fear of being caught up in trouble? Genuine question, this. I'm happy to see the error of my ways in the face of some actual justification outside of mentioning loyalty and tradition or what have you.

Fear of children being caught up? Do you not have enough common sense to avoid this sort of thing? Plus it's highly doubtful that a full grown man is going to twat a kid. Strange thing is I don't even agree with it, but i have friends who do/did do this sort of thing and saying their mindless chavs is ignorant as fuck, normal football fans by and large need not be affected by it.

Terrible post.. the fact that it is against the law means we know all we need to know. These people should just fuck off into a field and fight and leave the football to people who want to watch it.
There are plenty of people that have broken the law but I don't brand them 'scum'. Did drink before you were 18? Did you ever gamble before 18 years old? Have you never got 1mph over the speed limit? Would you brandish people for doing these things? They have also broken the law.

These people want to watch the football, there is some sort of idea that they just turn up without watching the game and then attack families. Absolutely ridiculous. The Millwall flag which says "Eating Babies Since 1885" sums the way people view that particular element of football fans.

I'd hope so, but this thread alone has people wary of bringing kids along. They may be overly cautious and are actually in no danger whatsoever, but the threat is obviously still felt by some.

That's fair enough, but when normal fans do get affected it becomes mindless thuggery. I'll happily acknowledge that it's a tiny minority of cases, and all the best to the people who consent to being involved in the culture.

I had the misfortune of running into one of Blues more "well known" fans and his mates about three seasons ago, next to the " Gas club".
it wasn't pretty.
Sounds like their may be more of the same !

I remember that, I was in the Gas Club that day. Is it when Blues wrecked the club next door and some unfortunate bloke was on the recieving end of a paving slab?

don't believe everything you hear... and FYI there's more of a rivarly towards Leicester then Blues. There's always been more hatred towards Leicester then Blues.

The fact some of Cov top boys know Blues faces well says it all, you would NEVER see the same with Leicester.

It has always been part of football, and comes with the tribal element of the game. It will always be there, if you don't like it then stay at home and watch Sky. Football has been taken away from the working-man, and terrace culture is slowly disappearing.

The middle-class Sky generation now rule the game.

More fierce as in there's more widespread trouble against blues around the ground, especially nowdays. Unless you go looking for it, you don't see that much aganst Leicester.

I'd disagree myself but with Blues, if you want trouble you'll get it because they are more 'active' and always bring massive numbers over here for some reason. But there's never been that fierce rivalry which you'd associate with Leicester or Villa.

If people want to meet up and have a fight then I think they should do it away from the ground in an empty car park when they will only harm themselves.

Call me ignorant because I have no interest in the thugs and hooligans, but long may the middle class rule football grounds instead of these complete twats that think taking a paving slab to someones head is a good idea.

Yea, Sky has really improved football, it is great isn't it?

Look at the history of the game and terrace culture, it will soon be dead and football will be even more dull, sterile and packaged for the middle-classes.

Yes lets have football grounds full of the prawn sandwich brigade, no atmosphere and clap happy when the opposition score.

Football was a working class game until Sky decided to put millions in.

You ask the majority of fans if Football is better now than 20 years ago and most would disagree.

Granted its nice to take kids to the game without witnessing trouble but at the same time, if you think middle class folk will improve the game then you are deluded.

Proper fans have been priced out and many have fell out with the game because of it.

Bad thing in my eyes and Sky are to blame.

Guess I'll just throw away my City shirt in that case and stick to cricket, like the proper middle class man that I am. What makes people like me not 'proper' fans in your eyes Wyken?

Football upto 1996 was a working class sport. Since then the whole football supporter and the sport in general has changed IMO for the worse.

Football has turned into a sport about money. Not about the game itself. You have Sky promoting their own agenda and not the sport.

You have working class fans been priced out of going. Many can’t afford a ticket and many families can’t afford to go because it’s such a expensive day out when you have kids in tow.

If it carries on the way it’s going. In 25 years you’ll have a whole generation not interested in football because of the above.

That’s why in my eyes moving the attention from attracting working class folk to middle class has spoiled the whole experience of a day out and the sport itself.

Looking forward to the game, another midlands derby, not as big as the Leicester game but still one I'm looking forward too.

Hopefully the moronic chavs won't be out in force and might actually grow up one day.

How have working fans been out-priced? Despite the lack of entertainment dished up to me on a weekly basis, I think my season ticket is excellent value. I spend as more on travel, parking and refreshments than my ticket, which I'm sure is true of many of you. Its such a cliche to say that it has been taken away from the working man. The transition imo is that its a nicer place to attend for women and families. Yes its less tribal and in some ways we have lost something but I think we've gained more than we have lost.

The only thing I do find irritating about the Sky generation is the belief that football only started 20 years ago and everything prior to then didn't matter.

I'd say the problem is not so much people not being able to afford going, but more about the huge (and growing) number of plastic glory hunters which Sky and the Premier League make money off. That has nothing to do with class-football being on TV on an almost daily basis means the interest will always be there. I get more annoyed walking around places like Brighton and seeing Arsenal shirts everywhere, or Cov and seeing Utd shirts everywhere-that is Sky's and the PL's doing, and is doing more to kill the game, and clubs like CCFC, than anything else.

Since when has working class meant running around beating the shit out of other people?

Who said anything about Football Violence been a working class hobby?

I'm personally saying football has changed for the worse over the past 20 years nothing remotely to do with Football hooligans? That's why you get more 'fans' down there local watching soccer saturday then down the match becasue its cheaper to get pissed then watching city.

The whole expereince is not what i used to enjoy when we were at Highfield road and before anyone starts im talking about the matchday experince i.e pub, standing in the west terrace, enjoying a atmosphere, been able to act jack the lad and leaving knowing you've spent 90 mins having a laugh with your mates. Nowadays you can't even fart without getting a ban.

Look at the Leicester game Saturday, i counted at least 10 Cov fans getting kicked out and nothing was what you'd call bad behaviour.

Trying to attack your own fans is in my threshhold for bad behaviour but I guess we all have our own levels.

It’s always been like that. In the 80’s you had Liverpool fans everywhere, in the 90’s you had Man Utd fans and in the 2000’s you had Chelsea and Arsenal. Always the way.

The problem is ticket prices.

I know many who can’t afford a ticket for every game and have to pick and choose.

Then you have some fans who could just about afford it but would rather go pub and stay there all day.

£25 for a cheap ticket is alot of money for many people. Hence why crowds are at an all time low on par with the last recession.

What’s your point? That had nothing to do with the fans inside getting ejected during the game?

That was outside and was totally unacceptable. Because that lad is at near enough every away game and anyone who knows him will back that up, just a bit simple in the head.

If you take the price of an average top tier football match ticket (with the freedom of choice to sit or stand and have a smoke and a pint whilst watching the game) from 30 years ago, then take into account inflation etc. The average ticket for a Premiership football match between say Chelsea & Liverpool should be £15, instead it's closer to £50. Blues vs Villa last season at vile park, would have cost a family of four blues fans over £200 just for their tickets. I could pay less to go to the cinema and seat in a warm, comfy chair and be pretty much garunteed to be entertained, or I could pay at least triple the price to go and be forced to sit on a cold plastic chair and watch us lose. Ironically the working class sport of football is now more expensive than some of the west end operas. We're treated like shit by everybody. It's not a crime to support your team, but the price of it is fucking criminal.

I think he was referring to those who were turfed out in the first half for 'aggressive singing', not those involved in the 2nd half incident.

Except now we're looking at Liverpool, Man Utd, Man City, Arsenal, and Chelsea-rather than a single team for the glory hunters, we have closer to half a dozen. I've been able to get tickets for the Reading and Leicester games at £17 each by virtue of being 21, but the cost of transport was even more than the ticket. Everybody is feeling the pinch, except the kind folk who helped to create the problem in the first place.

Apologies for raising this as known info for fellow fans...if it 'fucking unbelievable' just ignore the thread....but you may want to wear your trainers, just in case....but I bet if there is disorder on Saturday, folk who have labelled this thread as 'fucking unbelievable' will be stood gawping at what is going on (from afar)...like rubberneckers at a car accident.:thinking about:
It is fucking unbelievable that these utter cunts are still allowed anywhere near our game.

I'll try to have a look 'from afar' but I doubt I'll be able to see anything in Coventry when I'm in Reading ;)

If you don't think many football fans have been priced out of the game then your more out of touch then the current government.

Absolutely not. Its called supply and demand and we're firmly in the entertainment industry. Compare it with an overpriced concert ticket. If they were not filling the grounds they couldn't demand the prices. At the Ricoh we offer poor value for sub-standard low level football, hence we charge the prices of a tribute act. Chelse v Liverpool or whatever the other quotes were are in line with the top performers today and comparable with a Take That concert (yeah I know I'm out of touch with music too).
