But I thought Andy Turner had got a scoop for the first time in his career. Coventry are no longer interested in a Portsmouth reserve that they never said they were interested in buying. A great scoop!

Even if it turns out to be true, it would be much less fun than what people in the know on this thread have been saying for 40 odd thingies...weeks or years? I've lost track of time.

All I know is that when our man signs he'll turn out to be someone who was under the radar - and so far as I can see that only rules out Peter Crouch. Unless of course he actually does crouch.

What is the obsession with transfer fees?

I'd prefer another mcnulty than someone who costs £1m and is shite.

Or spend the money on wages for a good player out of contract than an average player we have to pay to get out of contract.

Think people need to stop wishing this was a game of football manager/FIFA
Meanwhile, someone called Rark Mobins has just taken over from Jose at Man U, signed Rod McDonald for £75m and sensationally quit a day later!

Equally, it's very unusual for a Robins signing to be rumoured much before it actually happens. All of our other signings pretty much came out of the blue (Morgan Williams aside but that seemed to be a hitch with the paperwork). It's just not in Robins MO to do it this way. I don't doubt we have had some contact over Chaplin, but I'm not convinced he has been our only target all this time either.

Apart from Carl Baker

I don’t do links, not interested, all I want is my club to grow back to something it was, I think it can but I believe the average fan perhaps not as smart as some look at failure, at the moment, to replace McNulty with frustration and will point fingers at its sisu again.

But you heard that He’s signing Monday.

The lad that we're signing today is under the radar. He hasn't been linked on here. (I don't think)

We could waste money on any old striker to keep the fans happy. But, we have to be patient and wait for the right man to come in.

Making rash decisions is how you end up spending £1m on McKenzie, £1.25m for Eastwood or £600k on Kevin Kyle.

Even if we didn’t get a striker when the deadline passes, this team is good enough to avoid relegation. So, we’ll have to wait and see what we can purchase in January. Chaplin may be available at a cut price.

My only concern is upfront, I’m happy with the rest of the recruitment across the team. Compare this squad and the one that got us relegated from League 1 and it’s a hell of a lot better...and let’s be honest Biamou and JCH are better than Andre Wright and Dan Ageyi!

ELB both you and I are better than Wright and Ageyi (and I have had a hip replaced and will be 60 later this year).
In all honesty though you are right; this squad is far stronger than the one we were relegated with. One decent goal poacher needed to give us a tilt at a play off place I believe.

Danny Ireland, I still remember that game he came on and got injured kicking it so we had to play without a keeper pretty much for the rest of the game.

McDonald out and new striker in today then?

Let’s bloody hope so.

Although whoever the striker is, there will be an unrealistic amount of pressure on him to perform.

Fun fact: I had jokingly put a 10p bet with my mate that he’d get injured that game...

My PE teacher, a sister of an ex-academy player back then knew Danny Ireland quite well. Apparently that injury messed him up big time.

Seemed like he didn't warm up properly and something went when he first kicked it. I know it was harsh but it was quite comical like the chuckle brothers.

He vanished back to Australia after that to work in Finance I think.
