What the hell was going on with that penalty? (1 Viewer)

Seems like we were complaining that it either wasn't a foul or that it was outside the box.

Well it was clearly a foul and was quite clearly inside the box. Completely baffled as to why our players were protesting so much.

Gotta blame the ref thought he was shocking last night never took control of the game, what was he talking to lino so long about? All he has to ask was wether in the box or not

Agreed, before the ref blew up I said "that's a pen" just watched it on Sky and it was a foul and was half a yard inside. I think the players saw a hesitant ref and tried to argue it was outside.

It seemed to get the refs back up after that coz as much as I try to reason with poor refereeing he genuinely seemed to relish booking our players and waving away any claims.

I just posted this on the ratings thread, but I think many are viewing the refs performance through Sky Blue blinkers:

I disagree about the ref. I thought he was generally awful but he did get the big decisions right imo.

It was definitely a penalty (stupid challenge), we had some half-hearted penalty shouts expecting him to even it up but there is no right to expect that, the one sheffers put away was off-side, their quick free-kick was fine and we should have been alert.

I wasn't sure if it was a penalty or not before Cody scored but regardless he either didn't see it as one or played a good advantage unlike the last time that happened and it was pulled back for a penalty.

He was annoying in the niggly stuff of yellow cards, time wasting, ball positioning, rolling-ball etc which could have cost us but didnt and I don't think he affected the result.

The one that irritated me the most was Cameron being barged over in the box from a corner when the ball was hanging in the air, the nimely gets penalised the the very same thing immediately afterwards.

The ref was dreadful.

He clearly gave a penalty though. there was no doubt in his mind. It was only our players going up to him and suggesting it was outside the box that then made him go over and check with the linesman.

Slightly naive question here, but why was Cameron starting in the first place? The bloke hasn't played in months :thinking about:

He looked unfit.

Think it was all to do with their wingers. Think AT thought Clarke could do a better job on Saha than Christie and that Chrisite couldn't play at left back and therefore Cranie had to move over to the left back slot, which then meant there was a vacant berth in the centre.

Really?! Players do it for all decisions, whether they know they are right or not.

Completely baffled as to why our players were protesting so much.

That'd make sense-hardly surprising he gave away a pen so quickly. Saying that, 2 games on the trot we've given away a penalty inside 5 minutes :thinking about:

Not so vehemently. Not with that much passion and gusto when it was that clear cut. It was such a clear cut pen there was nothing to argue about. Wasn't even close to being debatable.

Never seen City players protest so much over a decision that was so right.

Yea the pen was correct but the referee was one of the biggest arseholes at the Ricoh for a while, being a picky bastard about where CCFC free kicks and throw ins were taken but not so picky about the other side?
You can bet if Murphy time wasted as Speroni did then it would have been a yellow card for him. Why no yellow card for Zaha when he pushed Sheff in the chest?
The ref was a wanker in short.

Thorn is saying this morning that he has watched the video and that Cameron's challenge was outside the area. :thinking about:

I therefore just had another look and for me it is definitely inside.

Only just, but seems clear.

Bit of an odd thing for Thorn to say. The ball is in the area and the Palace player's right leg is in the penalty area as Cameron takes his feet away.

AT says;

"Nathan tripped their player outside the area and he fell in the box."

Maybe Thorn is still struck down by his virus. :thinking about:

For me the attacker had one foot inside and one outside the box, Cameron was outside the box and clipped the foot that was outside the box. The attacker's momentum took him fully into the box. Imo the contact was outside the box probably by 1-2in, but it was that close I don't think we can complain.

I have just been studying the bit of highlights and i know its very hard to see imo that player was on his way down to the ground anyway if you stop the replay about the 18th sec you will see and what i hate to see in football is players staying on the ground thinking there dying until they get a FK or PEN

Except that in the second half McSheffery did the most ridiculous dive got a free kick and everyone cheered.

Not as clearcut a penalty as I had first thought. Cameron clips his back leg and the back leg was outside the box despite the front leg and the ball being inside - guess after all these years I should knwo the rules .... but I don't. Is what I've described a penalty or not?

Like bollocks it was a penalty! The initial contact was clearly outside the box. I am stunned that I seem to be in the minority here. Do you not have opticians in Coventry?
