Stern John what is he up to these day as he not in football anymore. I like to see him return back here as i thought he did OK for the sky blues, and help us as we need experience players to come in.

Posh turned down Emile Sinclair move to Coventry City.

Probably the best striker we've had since we got relegated.

Unfortunately he didn't run around like a headless chicken so was, like other decent players, Bothroyd, and Best, derided as "lazy".

Skill not the only thing these "lazy" players had in common...

Would have thought he'd be past it a bit now though.

Loved that guy, one of my favourite players in recent years!

In fact I was nicknamed stern at school because I used to go on about him all the time :)

You think that a player who will be 36 this year and has retired from football should be found and played during the relegation run in? A player who at career best was Championship level? What other good ideas do you have? I want to write them down for Noel Fielding to use.

No, we called you stern because you're a grumpy bugger.

Stern John - would be my choice as one of the worst players ever to don a sky blue shirt in my opinion! Complete waste of time!

Juke is better than Stern John also. Stern John is just another lump that looked good in a shit team! Just like Adebola! Just my opinion, he isn't better than what we have.

Seens we're talking about players from the past. I was watching the season 04-05 dvd whilst going to bed, what about Suffo. Some of his play was majestic! like that cheeky lob against Ipswich at HR. Then he just disappeared once John came about..... what happened- I recall (correct me if i'm wrong) he had done some bits and pieces off the field, not sure what?
Also we scored lots of goals that season, good one's too.

Suffo plays for Bedworth Libs in the Nuneaton & Bedworth Sunday League.

Stern John was a quality player, isn't liked because he wasn't a headless chicken.

Stern was quality.
Trouble is many of our fans prefer work rate and alleged passion over genuine ability. So they love Keogh, Doyle, Flynn, Deegan... Who all have their place, but I prefer the likes of John, Boozy, Best and Clingan.
So sue me.

Awful attitude, very lazy. A decent finisher on his day but never really tok to him when he was here and was glad to see the back of him.

Isn't he rather old anyway?

Oh good another Oakey post using any excuse he can to have another pop at Keogh.

I think what you'll actually prefer is both so we tend to like Keogh yes, but also prefer players like Wise, King, McAllister, Nilsson. But you're right it isn't just quality that gets my vote because I prefer Big Clive over players like John too, as he is honest and selfless despite his goalscoring record I would take him every time.

Keogh is a quality defender to compare to workers like Flynn and Doyle is insulting.

Stern John was limited hopelessly on pace which is why his career ended up nowhere significant. Boozy? You must be on it tonight.

Just to be clear: I like Keogh. He is a solid, hard working, dependable, heart on the sleeve, salt of the earth type. Every team needs players like him.
However, there are other types of players who are flair and skill. Now, ideally you want players with both skill and solid effort. When those players come along we lose them to.rival teams. My preference is for more skill than work rate. I understand that many prefer more work rate than skill. In other words 50:50 is the ideal but in a less than ideal world give me 60 skill to 40 effort. Many of you disagree, fine.
That is not having a pop at Keogh or anyone else. It is merely explaining my preference. To me the work rate players are much easier to unearth and keep than the skill players, but the skill players are needed to progress as a team. Sorry if that upsets but we will never progress with a team of triers... We need a few gems.

People keep confusing me on here, now is this the worst team we've ever had or not?

I think it's poor compared to the team that John was in to be honest, a lump of coal in a pitch-black cellar would shine in this squad.

He's nearly 37. He hasn't played for nearly 2 years and averaged a goal every 8 games in his last 2 years in the championship.

With that goal ration I would say he is just the ticket.

At least he has experience.

Not having a pop here, but didn't McAllister take a lot of stick when he played for the club?
