Is it me or is he causing headaches?

He’s a creative player so isn’t suited to playing deep, yet his best position would seemingly be where Andreu plays

Given his rise, he’s nearly undroppable how do we play a team with Andreu, Bayliss and when he is fit, Jones without stifling their creativity?

Was there anything from Robins the other night about Andreu? I was a little concerned when I realised he wasn't even on the bench. Hopefully he's just being rested before tearing Plymouth apart on Saturday.

Could Andreu not play from a bit deeper himself? He isn't as quick as Bayliss and doesn't seem the sort of player to run at defenders.

Agree I feel Andreu & Bayliss are giving him a headache you would feel plain B would be 4-4-2 but where doesn’t he accommodate 2 or our best players in Bayliss & Andreu

The way he plays on the right wing he could easily do the same on the left at ease, he comes inside a lot as he naturally creates more centrally so it doesn't really matter where he starts.
A lot of what he creates is on the break when formations aren't set and he's running at the opposition.

Wouldn't be surprised to see this at some point, think Bayliss and Jones can switch sides at times also.
-------Ogogo - Kelly
Jones - Andreu - Bayliss
-------------ST (whichever has made MR the most cups of tea this week)

Assuming a fully fit squad I would currently go for

Burge
Grimmer
Davies
Willis
Mason

Doyle
Andreu
Bayliss
Jones

Biamou
Ponti

The new forwards should not be given a place automatically as Robins is trying at the minute, but should be made to prove they are good enough
While waiting for Jones, we may need to go narrower but I would prefer that than play a false winger

(just noticed = last year;s team except the left back where we have got rid of last years players - with Ponti for Mcnulty and Andreu for shipley)

I think that midfield would be madness, Doyle's head would explode and legs would fall off after 20 minutes trying to cover for those 3.

Decent going forward but defensively shocking.

A bit like when we had James Maddison & bought Joe Cole in - TM bent the formation to try to include them both & it was the beginning of the end of the good run that season.

A slight problem, but nothing compared to the one we have up front.

We've got a ton of strikers and no one knows our first choice.

Bit different as Robins hasn't brought in Andreu, he was here and Bayliss broke through in his absence, don't think you can pin the blame for this at MR's door.

if we ever play one holding midfielder it definitely can't be Doyle.

How to accommodate Bayliss and Andreu? As 2 of the 3 playing behind a lone striker? But who would the lone striker be?

The only real plus point at Oxford was the Brown / Shipley combo on the left in the second half which created both the offside goals. In our cravings for skill we neglect the utilitarian skills of Shipley, which make stuff happen for others.
Also when Andreu was bought, and the injured, Bayliss was not really on the horizon. I

I think we are quite lucky with the array of talent we have at our disposal in midfield (Doyle, Kelly, Bayliss, Ogogo, Shipley, Andreu, Jones, Allassani) compared to the striker department which between them, doesn’t look as though it can hit a cows arse with a banjo. I know it’s early doors but Bakayoko looks to be one of the most bizarre signings in recent years.

You need to give them the banjo sort of near the cows arse though.

Not sure why people seem to think the new strikers are missing loads of chances or something. Have to create them chances for them to score (or miss) before really judging them either way.

We all know that football is a results based business and I believe the mood after the Morecambe and the mood after the Notts County 2nd leg reflect the fluctuations better than any words can do.
We are two games in, one unlucky loss and a hard fought point away from home. My thoughts are that we have made too many changes too soon and introducing the new players game by game is better but really what do I know?
Robins is our best manager ever by statistics and surely deserves our patience and support, however I do feel that he is blinkered to what is staring him in the face and is stubborn to the point of being obstinate.
Bayliss is a free spirit when on the ball and will hopefully learn from his mistake against Scunthorpe and Andreu is an artist who sees the canvas in front of him. It doesn't always come off but I would rather we had some fantasy in our play with players that can excite.
The four frontmen excluding Ponticelli remind me of 16/17 season loanees and don't inspire confidence that they can come good at this level. That said its Robins head on the block and he knows the only way to inspire confidence is a few wins under our belt and quick but will he make the changes that puts points on the board soon?

The only caveat to that being that we were woeful in there with his absence on Tuesday. I know it wasn't an important game, but it was a strong side and lacked all of the things he brings in effort and guile, but more importantly in leadership which he brings in spades. If we are to do without him, then other people really need to step up, because I think leadership is severely lacking throughout the side and others need to take responsibility. to get things going around them.

Small sample size currently but Bayliss laid chances on a plate for Bakayoko (tried to clip it over the keeper, could have gone round) and Hiwulu (awful first touch) at Wimbledon.
We have created openings and chances in the first two league games which haven't been finished.
Have to give them time to get up and running before judging but how much time and how many chances if enough is the question MR needs to answer.
Hopefully one if not both start firing so he doesn't need to answer that question.

Too many luxury players for me atm. It's either Bayliss or Andreu until we are more settled

don't disagree but wouldn't play him alone which is why I wouldn't go with 3 in midfield with him as the only defensive player.

Only way I can get Jones, Bayliss and Andreu in is three in front of one or two DMs either 4231 or 4132:

Ogogo Kelly
Bayliss Andreu Jones
MysteryStrikerWhoCanPlayOnHisOwn

Or

Ogogo
Bayliss Andreu Jones
Bakayoko Hiwula

Have to agree. I do worry that we have/will end up going down a similar route of signing any striker available in the chance they may come good.

2016/17 strikers:

Charles Vernam
Marcus Tudgay
Kwayme Thomas
Stuart Beavon
George Thomas
Michael Folvi
Dan Agyei
Jack McBean
Yakubu
Andre Wright
Marvin Sordell

Feel sick looking at that list, what a shambles that team was.

Oh, not blaming him, it’s just a bit of a conundrum really. Both great players & you want to play both etc. For me, I’d drop Bayliss back to partner Ogogo & have Andreu ahead of them. Bayliss can break forward as he does, whilst Andreu then covers him.

Completely agree with Biamou and Pont starting and the new strikers shouldn't just be put into the team automatically especially after recent performances.

Sorry, but even McNulty needed more than one sight at goal last season. Especially early doors, where he missed some really simple chances. Hiwulu is being played on the left wing virtually, well out of position - when McNulty did that, how often did he score?

Just not seen enough of them yet to decide. Hiwulu has got a good goal record minutes per goal at L1 level.

Honestly, it took McNulty 12 games to get going & was not prolific until getting towards Oct/Nov.

Tom Bayliss would be the 1st name on the team sheet for me,fit the team around him and i would drop Doyle at especially at home,i mean he is 37 now, play him by all means away, but no way do we need to play him from the start at home, sub bench yeah

As I've said, we must give them time to get up and running and I am by no means writing them off, just pointing out that to say they've not had chances is incorrect.
Interestingly for me, last season McNulty was Robins man, even during his dry spell at the start Robins was proclaiming "stick with him, he'll get the goals." This season it seems more in hope that one catches fire.
