They've just held the World Air Guitar competition in Finland, its an annual award. A woman won it and it attracted a lot of entrants from around the world. When I worked on the buildings years ago on sites there would always be a radio on, and most of us couldn't resist picking up a spade or brush, and pretend to use it as a guitar when a rock track came on, so we were air guitarist's long before it took off.
A mate of mine often uses his pool cue as a guitar when he hears a song on the pub jukebox, he thinks he's Jimmy Page ! Got me thinking what song/songs would you air guitar too if you entered this competition ? Houch would do a Dylan track, and Otis I bet XTC !

Never, ever done the air guitar.

Never quite understood it and always had it down as a metal thing. :)

Yes it is rock/metal usually, but I read once they do a classical one too. I was cleaning the windows of a house a few years ago, and went up the ladder to clean a bedroom, and there was a teenager singing into her hairbrush, really going for it. I thought I better not bang her window and embarass her, but she turned to see me looking, she let out a yell and ran out of her room ! George Formbys song came to mind,"when I'm cleaning windows ! "
Not air guitar but similar ?

Yeah, we're quite posh us Otis's, so we do play air viola on occasion to Bach and Mussorgsky.

There are some great classical music to headbang and air violin too. A bit of Elgar or Beethoven.
Rainbow did a great version of Beethoven's 9th symphony called "Difficult to Cure".

A guilty secret of mine is that I air guitar to most Pink Floyd tracks! I've been known to air guitar to Dylan's "Ballad of Frankie Lee & Judas Priest".

Before I went on my round this morning they played a track on Planet Rock by heavy metal band : Rammstein called Du Hast. Think they're a German band ? Really heavy, but a great thumping beat. I reckon they'd be great to air guitar to !

Had my air guitar knicked last week
You can buy mine. I don't use it much any more! It's a Fender Stratocaster American Standard. Great sound if you hum along with it as well!

It would have to be with either of La Tristwsse Durera or Motorcycle emptiness by the Manica
With as many guitars as James Dean Bradfield.

Suns out...kids in bed....discovered the cupboard where I'd put the air guitar last time it was used....put on Black Sabbath to blow away the cobwebs......and thankfully it's just as good as the last time I played it. No tuning or anything....even did the on one knee air guitaring which given its been a while was particularly impressive.

I guess it's like riding a bike.......you never forget how to play the air guitar

As a serious Mod I hate myself for turning to dirty greasy heavy metal or rock for my fix....but with the exception of some Who classics like my generation and pinball wizard (Obvs involves the added skill of windmilling when strumming the air guitar like Pete Townsend would do in his own bedroom) ...its got to be something a bit heavier for the serious air guitar player......just my opinion of course

I listen every day to Planet Rock radio. And when my son was staying with me last year he caught me air guitaring to Paper Plane by Status Quo. Was I embarrassed ? No. As he knows that some rock tracks just do that to you !
