Armstrong was / is a bit of a one trick pony, and was found out by defenders. This is Div 1 we are talking about. Having an attack with no tall striker when you have midfielders who play hoofball - which they will, it is div 1. That was Biamou's main talent- dealing with long kicks and laying off in someway to McNulty

Yes I agree re the hoofball comment, which is why I said in both of my posts that his success will depend on the type of football we play.

I accept it’s a L1, but I think it’s a generalisation to suggest you can’t play football in this league. For example, Bayliss and Andreu are technically superior to the ‘standard’ L1 player, so with those two in the core of the midfield we would play football. Coupled with Jones/Thomas/Hiwula, who are all comfortable on the ball, we actually stand a good chance of being able to play creative football. My concern is more around the tactics MR implements.

Plus, I’m proposing a solution to a formation I’m not necessarily in favour of. I’d prefer playing with two up front, in a big man, little man combination. That then raises the debate of how you’d best fit Bayliss/Andreu in the same team....

Thing is Chaplin knows full well that Robins has been chasing him for ages - he knows he is wanted and that’s massive for a footballer.
I also think he looks at the way Robins stuck with McNulty (who Chaplin knows well) when things were not going so well and he is thinking that is the kind of belief he needs from his manager.
I think this is nailed on!!

If he does sign which is looking increasingly likely can we keep this thread open to discuss all things Conor i.e when he doesn’t score 4 on his debut and is ultimately deemed shit.

Would seem a shame to put an end to this thread seems to of been going a life time.

At least we should now see if Bakayoko was brought in to play with Chaplin. The two of them could cause problems for anyone. One tall for the knock downs and the other a predator in the area. And both young enough to learn. Could be a fun season.
JCH and Chaplin sounds a potentially good combo to me. Haven't seen Hiwula play so can't comment on him.

Chaplin hasn't played many 90mins so wonder what stamina levels are like as it stands.

Wonder how he'd feel about this signing (if it happens!). I'm assuming he's the chap bought when the Chaplin deal stalled, so he probably wasn't expecting Chaplin to sign after all... and potentially drop him down the pecking order.
