He clearly isn't going to come in and score loads on his debut, going to take him time to get there again.

According to the bloke at the Arsenal match though he had a decent game with his new haircut.
new hair cut? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

we have to be patient with him! that was some serious fucked up injury he is coming back from and it will take a while for him to get his speed back, Andreu & Agogo have both hit the wall recently as well,
This, I think we have to keep expectations low for the first 3 or 4 games, but I'm sure he can have a huge impact later in the season when he and the squad get fully up to speed.

Lost count of the amount of times Shipley got sucked infield Saturday and the long diagonal was played to their RB in acres of space...especially one in the 2nd half where he completely switched off and the RB layed it back to the Barnsley forward and he skyed a sitter. He's the only player I can comfortably say is no where near good enough to play at this level and if he wernt a cov lad he would get slated. Jones will take his place as currently Shipleys the weak link in the team.
Strange how we've started winning now he is back in the side though? You sound very bitter

Involved in both goals v Oxford too. He’s a player that is underrated and is still developing, he may even cut it in the Championship one day.

I heard he was pretty much set to join Leeds, before his injury.

Interesting to see how he fits in when he's fully fit. As others have said, Shipley offers us considerable balance on the left and I'm not overly convinced about JJ's defensive capabilities in a 4-4-2. Wonder if we'd change system back to the 4-2-3-1 with a fluid front 4 maybe.

Two players like Thomas and Jones plus Bayliss in the middle would leave Doyle totally exposed as the sole defensive midfielder. It just wouldn't work. The balance is players like Shipley. ideally I think two holding defensive midfielders is a must (Doyle/Kelly) so that leaves two more attack minded. Bayliss and one other. Or you could place 5 in midfield with a third attack minded midfielder opening it up for Jones and Thomas either side. Then you would have to lose JCH. Not so easy is it? It's about a balanced team to do a job. Use of substitutes are a big part these days for that reason as you change the side and tactics on the fly.

This is exactly why I have to remind people that your best team is not necessarily your 11 best players

Sure there probably already is a post on this but couldn’t find it. I am so so excited for Jodi jones to be back in the team and in form. Him and Tom Bayliss together (for the first time if I’m right?) with Chaplin, JCH and Thomas/Allassani is a mouthwatering attack. Just remind yourselves how good JJ is.

Such an exciting talent. So frustrating to miss out on it for most of last season. I think we will need to be patient though. Can’t see him getting up to speed for a few months.

Shipley deserves a lot of credit. However he isn’t a right or left winger.
I hope his career doesn’t fizzle out because he doesn’t nail down one position as his own. He might be one of those who gets screwed over as a jack of all trades but a master of none.

LOL don't think I'm going to be bitter about a football player bab... Just my opinion. And saying one player starting has suddenly turned around our form magically? Classic drivel you get on here. He's garbage mate, sorry if I touched a nerve

Bab, it sounds like it's more of an obsession to you than an opinion?

The club had rejected at least one offer from Leeds as I understand it
The lad hadn't spoken to Leeds or any other club

I don't usually have any inside info on the club but i do know Jones' cousin pretty well so this is one player i do actually know something about. Before his injury Jones was aware that Leeds, Norwich and Wigan had all been watching him closely and although he wasn't pressing for a move he wasn't exactly against a move either. Also Addai is his best mate in the club and he thought Vincenti was shite.

I don't think a midfield of JJ/Bayliss/Doyle/Thomas is too lightweight,
Jones battles back, watch the highlights video above and you'll see the amount of time he nicks the ball and starts a counter attack, he'll be defending against wingers or wing backs so pace will be key in tracking back, not being as strong or powerful as Shipley isn't an issue. Having pace on both wings acts as a form of defence as opposing full backs are less likely to commit to attacks due to worrying about counters on their wing.

The notion that you can only play one attacking winger is nonsense, Doyle and Bayliss can hold their own in midfield as proven on Saturday against one of the leagues better sides, Doyles leadership and communication is key though in talking 3 relatively inexperienced midfielders alongside him through the game, when to sit, when to go etc

He didn't get sucked infield, he is supposed to tuck in when the ball is on the opposite side, that's how we play. The B team against arsenal got criticised by Robins for not doing exactly that. Considering he is actually a central midfielder he is positionally very good on the left and gives us balance.

It's clear he doesn't really like a challenge and I wish he'd tackle with more committment at times but overall he's done ok and it's clear he does have ability. If we didn't have Bayliss he would have got more credit last season.

Of course you can play two wingers, they keep the fullbacks pinned down especially if they have pace, then it’s down to our central midfield to do the business. Going back to the JH days Willie Humphries and Ronnie Rees our best ever pair of wingers, hardly ever went in our half and Gordon Milne’s best team had Ray Graydon and Tommy Hutchison both out and out wingers, can’t beat them.
In fact if we had Humphries and Rees today we would walk this league.

Andreau,Jones, Biamou & Agogo are all coming back from such seroius Knee Injuries and we should be looking at 6 months from starting a game to get to the required match fitness! I dont believe we see the best of Andreau until January in my Opinion.

And at that point, he'll be like a brand new signing
