What is it with people on here being so negative?

Seems like unless we are 3 nil up after half an hour then it's a disaster, all the players are shite and Robins needs to go.

How about a bit of perspective?

We are a newly promoted team
We were up against the best team in the league (so far)
We had a very makeshift defence
We were missing our best striker

Yet we limited them to two chances all game and matched them for 90 minutes.

However reading the comments on here you'd think we'd just been beat 4 nil by the team bottom of the league.

We're not going to win every game and we're not going to play well every game. People need to realise that and accept it.

Maybe you'll enjoy it a bit more when you're not so negative.

The trouble is, 8 goals in almost a quarter of the season is very worrying. Discounting the Premier League where only 7 games have been played, only Grimsby in L2 have scored fewer goals than us.

Do you watch games? It's nothing to do with being 3-0 up within half hour.

What is there that's positive after last night's game? Even the manager set us up in a negative way.

We could still be playing now and not scored or really tested their keeper.

I must have watched something different if people are coming away from that positive.

we're a newly promoted side sitting 12th.
Last nights result was against a team who are top of the league and still unbeaten yet even with a makeshift defence we limited their opportunities.
We've conceded the 5th joint lowest amount of goals but are joint lowest scorers in the league. Not difficult to see where the problems are and though I don't feel positive I don't think we're in for a guaranteed relegation dog fight just yet.
Echoes of last season where it took a while to get our main striker scoring, need to find a way to do that again and we should be OK.
Jones back will be a big plus.

Not being negative and agree we were not outclassed but that was a very poor game in my view.

Big problem is we are not scoring enough. Rectify that and things will look a lot rosier.

I have confidence that Chaplin will start banging them in soon and as Clint has said, there is still Jones to come (yeah, I know he came on again last night, but it's going to be a few more weeks until he is totally back to speed).

Can you not see the link between decisions from the manager, negative performances and negative fans?

We aren't in the premier league, its League one and the manager has had a fair amount of resource for this level.

The negativity comes from the cumulation of poor performances not just last night.

8 goals from 13 matches in all competitions is not good enough, and to not create a single chance (the late freekick aside) in the second half 1-0 down is simply not good enough.

Yes we have gone up a league, yes Portsmouth of top of the league. But this is only league one, Portsmouth aren't the reincarnation of Barcelona.

Just because we have been promoted there is no reason why we shouldn't be able to be dangerous and create chances. Their centrebacks won't have an easier match than last nights.

I thought we might get another season out of Doyle but he is having a negative impact on the side everything has to go through him and he is a very limited footballer if he wasn’t there the focus would have to change.

Defence with sterling out of position and Thompson did well but weren’t really tested second half
Doyle needs to play midfield not in a back 5
Shipley struggled

It was poor going forward but we could have got a draw

Completely agree. That injury for a winger especially is awful. Could arguably take 12 months from now to get back up to speed. Bolasie at Everton had the same injury about two years ago and things are so bad hes now on loan at Villa.

Yes things have been frustrating but I believe we have the core of a good squad easily good enough for a lower mid table finish this season .

Main problem for me has been Robins reluctance to sort the whole Doyle situation . He should be used a lot more sparingly ,maybe a younger captain needed too and as for his set pieces .....

It's more about how we set out in games. If we set out negative like we did last night then it will give us a negative result and there will be negative fans.

That system hasn't worked all season when he puts Andreu in and plays him deep, not sure why he expected it to last night.

It is the stubbornness that is annoying, the lack of a plan B.

Having said that Shipley was poor and JCH seemed to be winning most of his aerial battles so would’ve benefited from having someone up top with him. It seemed to me that by the time hiwula came on it was too late as Pompey had started playing very deep.

That's probably because it was obvious that early how negative we were setup and how it wasn't going to work.

It reeked of desperation. I actually thought by the time hiwula came on he might as well have thrown Bakayoko on instead - big bloke might have unsettled them.
Robins is naturally conservative but we only had two real efforts all game. One, a mistake from their two centre backs, the other a goal mouth scramble from a corner. Not good enough.

We weren't really going toe to toe though were we? They didn't get out of second gear all game, their defenders didn't seem to break into a sweat.

It surely isn't an over-reaction if it's correct? It was that obvious as soon as JCH won his first header and Andreu was still on the halfway line that it wasn't going to work.
