Nice to see all the hindsight experts coming out in force. If organising a trip like this is so easy and straight-forward and any mistakes made so fucking ovious to see well in advance, then maybe one of them would like to organise the next trip. But do remember, the sit-on-their-hands-at-home brigade will be lining up for a bit of character assassination and self-congratulatory hindsight lecturing if anything goes wrong.

Is that one of the board's pedants whining about posters being self-congratulatory?

Was on the boat on Saturday, said from the before that free bar for 3 hours was too good to be true so was expecting to get tickets for at least a couple of free drinks. Got on the boat at like just after 11 and was told they were putting £200 tab at a time then shortly after told they couldn’t add anymore tab as they don’t offer the free bar facility to football fans.

Paid for our drinks from the very start then we were told to keep receipts and I have about 5 of our group of 3’s reciepts’ totalling £138.00 downstairs were charging nearly £5 for a bottle of becks, Id imagine the reciepts we didn’t keep before then would have probably added another £60-80. Then we got dropped off and ended up getting a taxi to the ground. It was a decent crack to be honest but it ended up being more expensive than just a piss up round London like usual so defiantly a one off for me.

Fine looking specimen. The owl, I mean.

So he should, he eats better than me, always stealing my dinner. I only keep him to control the rats in my allotment. He's a fierce hunter.

Handy! Does he scoff them as well as catch them? Could do with one myself!

He's trained to bring them back, too many diseases. If he's in a boisterous mood he'll sometimes fuck off up a tree and rip one apart, then regurgitate the indigestible parts, bones, skin and fur as owl pellets. I much prefer him eating a nice piece of steak!

Do they have service stations on the Thames then? I wasn't aware of that at all.
The Thames is the Watering Hole, you can brink as much as you like.

Read through most of these and I’ll admit wholeheartedly I’ve made mistakes on this. The communication should have been much better between myself and the boat firm as at no point did I inform them it was a football trip, they wanted to know the amount of people, departure pier and docking pier. I should have let them know it was a football but unbeknown to myself they don’t offer the ‘unlimited drink package’ to football fans, therefore the money that was paid for the bar was told it’ll be filtered through during the trip. According to them £3,000 was spent in 15/20 minutes of getting on the boat, as people were getting shots and spirits too (I don’t believe that amount was spent in that time).
I’m going down there tomorrow to discuss what is happening going forward as need to get things sorted for people as I fully understand why people are annoyed.
I was told by the security on board that if any cov fans do it in future to just make sure they know and they can either do drink tokens (everyone’s gets 4 each or something), or just charge much less without the bar.
I’ve apologise a lot about what happened yesterday and if given time I will get it rectified.
Sorry to all that travelled, it’s extemeley frustrating as without that issue the boat was really good and a good atmosphere on board

Just read this comment from James here and also read the replies to it about how it seemed like an honest mistake and to give the man the benefit of the doubt which seems only fair.

Having been on that boat that day and gutted that it wasn't what was advertised I spoke to James afterwards and even bought him a pint as he genuinely seemed like he made an honest mistake and looked shellshocked by the levels of abuse that were being chucked at him.

Whilst I was on the boat I clocked the name of the company that ran it. Living in London and working with companies like this I felt it was a bit of bad move to go back on what they promised so I thought I would drop them an email to find out what had happened so I could get the truth and possible avoid them in the future.

I asked how they promised a free bar and free food to James to which they replied they had never promised any free bar and no food had been ordered.

My suspicions then got the better of me and having seen the total stated by James that he said they were asking for I thought I would ask how much they were charging him to see if at least the amount he was saying matched up.

James had stated that they were charging him £9,575 (in a message after the one above in this forum) - £7,000 for free drinks, £1,600 for hire of the boat and £975 for security. The company got back to me and said what they had in fact charged him was £1,140 for the boat hire, £900 for security, and £204 for the speaker hire (breakdown in screengrab). This left a slight overcharge of £106 which was put towards the bar (and explains why only a few people actually managed to get drinks when they first got on). A grand total of £2,244 was charged.

That is a difference of £7,331.

James told me that there were 312 people on that boat, so with each all paying £30 each - that is a total of £9,360!

James mate...care to explain this?

You said that you were refunding people on the boat £20 each (apparently you failed to go down to London to sort this out as you had said in a previous message) but from what I've heard no one can get in touch with you to get this money back. Even if anyone can get their money back and you refund all 312 people (£6,240 to return) and pay the £2,244...you still stand to make a profit of £876!

Irrespective of what James has or hasn't done that's poor from the boat company to be giving those sort of details out to a random member of the public.

Seeing as you have the name of the boat its pretty easy to find their website and subsequently their charges. If he'd purchased the all inclusive drinks option the total would have been £15,348. Even at the 360 boat capacity that's £43 per person but tickets for this were £30.

I have my doubts over whether the company would reveal such details.

Of course Turtle87 has no reason to lie but it is confidential information is it not?

If James has screwed everyone then he would have had to have been pretty stupid to think he would get away with it given his previous record?

I’m inclined to believe that there is more to this.

James mate...care to explain this? I think you wrapped people around your finger, sold them a lie (inc myself) and have pocketed the money mate. I can't believe you would do this to your fellow fans.

You said that you were refunding people on the boat £20 each (apparently you failed to go down to London to sort this out as you had said in a previous message) but from what I've heard no one can get in touch with you to get this money back. I think in some ways it goes beyond money now I've spoken to the company, it is more about the lies of telling people there was a free bar and food, and further lies around totals you were being charged so as to play the guilt card again.

I didn't want to bring this up again as it seemed things had died down but I hate the fact you mugged off your fellow Cov fans with this. That for me is my gripe! I'm going to Southend on Saturday so happy to discuss like adults.

This is criminal if true

Assume the boat name is correct according to their website it’s £380 an hour so Turtle87’s figure seems right.

However if you bundle it all in and add VAT James figures are about right as well.

The difference is the cost of paying for drinks. Their website does show all inclusive drinks packages ranging from £23 to £50 per person however the prices listed are based on 4 hours and this trip was 3.

Looks to me like James thinks he’s paid for an all inclusive package and the hire company don’t think he has.
