I’ve seen worse than that

I'm delighted to see the old City habit of throwing games away late on being totally reversed. Season could be very interesting

No, just better ones apparently!
Not sure what your issue is?

Our fans saw it cross the line in realtime, their fans saw it, their players saw it, their players saw it.

2 officials missed it and then booked our player for showing what happened.

It's the issue with refs, never think they are wrong.

I missed it

So I'm assuming it happened in first 7 mins?! Lol

I don’t think our fans from the other end could see the goal line but reacted to the players. I certainly couldn’t see the line from where I sat.
The ref clearly couldn’t be sure and the Lino had a player lying down between him and the ball. Therefore the ref gave the only decision he could...yes it was wrong and goal line tech would have given the goal but with his naked eye the ref couldn’t.

I’m a referee myself, and I have to say I disagree with Adge. At league one level I would expect at least one of the officials to see that the ball was a foot and a half over the line. These officials have been selected as some of the best in the country and it’s simply not good enough at this level of the game. Mind you that might be me being a bit biased towards my team.

How or why should the officials be punished, they or the linesman made an honest mistake, it happens I thought the referee had a decent game

Re the disallowed goal...
The ball appeared to cross the line and was then cleared. So why did the linesman stand with his flag up? You don't flag to indicate that the ball didn't cross the line, unless the ref had in fact given the goal and the linesman wanted to attract his attention to argue the toss. I wonder if the linesman was in fact flagging for offside? There did seem to be a city player close to the line when Davies headed the ball, though it must have been a close call

Who would have been offside? Davies headed it from a corner and it went in.

Certainly not Davies, you can't be offside from a corner, but at the instant Davies headed the ball, a player on the line could have been offside (though very questionable that they could have been interfering with play). Why did the linesman flag if he thought the ball didn't cross the line?

In which case nobody would ever be allowed to score from a corner? The goalie and their defender were both on the line keeping everybody onside anyway

one of their players was over the line which negates any offside city players might have

I wondered why he flagged - was it a throw in after the incident?

Yup. The defender booted it away in annoyance.

Nowhere near as bad as this one a few weeks back mind you -

@Adge, at what point does 'an honest mistake' become incompetence?

Funny old world isn't Adge. You happily like being an armchair critic and write off young footballers but don't like fans criticising poor refereeing decisions. Hypocrite alert

As soon as it isn't a ref it seems.

Bless them, they have the stewards come and get them just in case anybody dares question them at half time or full time.

It certainly looked like there were defenders on the line, but back to the question...... why did the linesman flag?
Maybe their defenders were 6 inches off the line and our player was on the line. It's impossible to judge from the video

I thought he was flagging because of the ball going out after or something?

He was flagging for a throw in to us. I get that the referee and linesman could have been unsighted but surely the reaction of the goalkeeper and defenders must tell them something

You may be right..... on closer inspection it does look as if his flag is perhaps pointing towards the Southend end. I thought it was pointing straight up to indicate an offside

Anyone else see altercation tween JCH and young steward yesterday (left side goal in front of city fans). Ball went out for corner and steward picked it up and threw it with force to JCH. Almost got him in face. JCH responded with choice and threatening words. Lucky ref didn’t see/hear or JCH in trouble I think. City fans react and point finger/intimidate steward who appears shaken. At end of game JCH comes over and intimates a trembling lip at steward (as if he been crying). Again if the authorities see this or if Southend report to the FA I believe he could find himself in trouble.
Did the steward throw the ball accidentally or deliberately with such force and/or did he not realise JCH was so close?

I thought JCH overreacted - it was a ball thrown by a young kid of a steward - hardly going to wipe JCH out. At the end though, JCH was doing that obnoxious thing, wafting under his nose at the steward (feigning that the steward stinks). Childish, offensive and well hard (not). Not a moment to be proud of.
