I would try foods though and used to spit them out. My mum said I would always throw up after eating them. This was well before I ever had chance to decide to be fussy and awkward. From a very, very early age.

My daughter is in the latter category. She just won't even try things.

Who, me with my daughter?

She will just go without. She's incredibly stubborn. The 'eat it because you are getting nothing else' just doesn't work with her.

You try that she just doesn't eat and will happily go to bed on an empty stomach. You can't win.

Never, ever been soft with her, but if I send her out to a 13 hour school day (including travel) on a empty stomach I am not being a good parent.

Same too if she comes home after a 13 hour school day and goes to bed without eating.

To be fair though, I've made a point from day one that my son will be eating whatever we eat, no excuses. And he pretty much does but won't eat eggs and it drives me mad.
Had to tell the mother in law off at one point too as she barely likes anything as said in front of him once that "Nanny doesn't like carrot, errr" and after that he wouldn't eat carrots after that.

Yeah we had that as well. Just copying without trying it.

Not even runny boiled eggs with soldiers?

My daughter's always been like that, but to be fair to her she does like fruit and vegetables, so is happy to eat a raw carrot, or a pepper, or tomatoes, anything like that. She would gladly skip dinner and have a whole cucumber and some tomatoes instead.

That's not that picky then! :)

It's the way to go with kids, have them eat what you eat where possible......as long as you don't eat junk all the time though. Our kids grew up with a very wide education and knowledge of food and can all cook well . All girls mind you and still went through some eating fads in teenage years, I think thats quite common.

Been impossible for us for her to eat the same. My wife pretty much only eats Russian food and I'm a vegetarian.

We have pretty much always had to have three different meals in our house.

She's having you on. :) If my daughter tried that she would get garlic bread, eggs and ham twice a day if she wanted to play games.

Eat anything, me. Human garbage bin.

Brought up to eat what was in front of me.

The wife don't like smelly fishy fish, if that makes sense! But will happily eat Salmon paste sarnie spread?

I'm pretty much banned from sardines on toast because of this.

I'm telling you, Nick, she WOULD go hungry.

100% no doubt on that. She's done it a few times. Gone from 5 pm at night and hungry to not eating until 7 am the next day and breakfast.

I'm not talking about love it/hate it/love it again .I am talking about really like it then don't like it anymore and she will literally never eat it again.

She's an odd one.

She used to love cereal and then one day she said she didn't like cereal anymore and she has never had a bowl since.

That was 7 years ago. Not one bowl since.

Been the same with so many things.

Same here Otis. My missus is Polish/Lithuanian and eats some bloody weird stuff! She could eat a jar of sauerkraut in a single sitting and it stinks the bloody place out! I can't stand the stuff! And olives! Urgh!! I've tried them time and again to see if I could like them but no, they're bleedin' awful! Blue cheese? I'd rather poke hot pins in my eyes than eat that mouldy shit! (and I've tried a few different ones).
I'm not allowed a nice cheddar cheese and onion sandwich because SHE doesn't like the smell of onions! Can't bloody win!!

My wife gets most upset because our daughter says she doesn't like Russian food.

Some of it does smell pretty rank and looks unappealing. They just aim for hearty, warming food though, so looks are less unimportant.

My wife makes a lot of stews and soups.

My wife is the same with red onions. Tells me they're too strong, but I bloody love them.

We have a rule in our house with the kids. Eat everything on the plate or you don't get pudding. Not even a single pea. It is very rare they don't eat everything put in front of them.

My daughter has a friend where the mother cooks a separate meal for most of them as they all like different things and dislike so many. That would do my head in.

I can't be bothered to eat apples. There are better tasting fruit that takes less effort. But there is nothing better than several cold ciders on a hot day.

That doesn't work for my daughter either because she never has pudding.

I have a food in tolerance to the different way eggs are cooked, I can eat poached eggs and boiled, but not fried or scrambled.

Can't stand cheese either, unless it's melted then it's absolutely amazing.

I don't like cheese. Never ever eat cheese by itself, but love it on a pizza and love stilton if it's in a dish (not in a dish, but in a dish if you know what I mean).

What's the story with the eggs? Is it the oil/butter?

They don't know as I can eat other fried stuff, they said some people just can't tolerate certain things. I have a weird thing with beef as well where I can eat mince, burgers etc, give me a steak and it makes me bad for hours.

I can control it pritty well though.

I won't eat melted or soft cheese except on pizza (but I generally avoid pizzas) and never got on with any blue veined cheeses.

I used to hate it when my Mum ate really strong mature cheddar because when I was young the smell seemed overpowering, but I eat it now.

Weirdly enough I'll eat pretty much anything but also hate liquorice.
I LOVE liquorice. Have been eating it since I was tiny when you could buy a stick of liquorice for a penny (in old money).
I love liquorice allsorts and also the Finnish Panda liquorice.
I don't like that cheap black fake tasteless modern supermarket 'liquorice' that leaves your tongue blue.
