Should you be able to have a beer when watching the game at The Ricoh? (14 Viewers)

Think it's just the way people say "celebrating a goal" when sharing stuff on social media.

It would never work. People kick off and whinge when they are asked to sit in their own seat and a thread will pop up on here talking about heavy handed stewards etc.
Actually, just try it and see.

"We do what we want, we do what we waaaaaaant.
I've had a shandy, we do what we want" etc

I think people are just that oblivious to it because they are at football and think they can do what they want.

I can see the riots already in the stands. Stewards wading in, drunk twats jumping in. People pissed off with the other fans being twats wading in.

Do it.

I very much love having a few beers before the game but this just wouldn't work and a few pissed up morons would ruin it for all of us. I'm not sure it would contribute to atmosphere either.

this reminds me of the arguments against all day drinking which was supposed to lead to Armageddon but it had the opposite affect.

It'll be all the morons on the Facebook group threatening to 'cave him in' acting like complete dickheads then all starting on a steward who is a) trying to do a job and b) make sure everyone else's game isn't ruined. It's just mob mentality. Someone could punch a steward for no reason and all their mates would be like 'Wohaaaaay, fookin deserved it m8'

Sorry bro, I agree with most of your post, but I need to call bullshit on this point here.

Was it the world famous top-of-the-table clash between Al Nassr and Al-Hilal that you're referring to? Or the relegation dog fight between Ohod and Al-Ittihad?
Obviously the game between Al Nasr and two times Asian champions league finalists AlHilal with between 45,000 and 60,000 in the stadium which are both Riyadh sides. Al Ithiad are the big team in Jeddah but don't seem to be challenging usually.
They have had Argentina and Brazil here in Riyadh a couple of weeks ago, both Iraq and Saudi Arabia were cannon fodder to set up the Brazil v Argentina match in Jeddah.
I came from the Charlton game to watching both sides go through the motions .

yeah, it would soon just become a massive ball ache for everyone getting drenched in beer/piss. Ultimately you can go get yourself a pint at any time during the game, just not in your seat so its not like its a no-alcohol ban.
Exactly that. You can drink pre game, after the game and even during the game if you are that desperate.

It's just 45 mins max. Are people really saying they cannot go without a beer for 45 mins?

And it's not even 45 mins for a most anyway. So many people go down to the mall with maybe 5 or 6 mins plus left of the first half, so it is probably something like about 38-39 mins for many.

We all know there will be some who will abuse it.

There were only a few causing trouble before, but we all ended up with all seater stadiums.

Would think it would only take one incident at home for families and young children to be put off.

It's just 45 mins tops. Are people really saying they cannot last 45 mins without alcohol?

I don't drink at home games, I almost don't see the point.
I think on the whole, the vast majority would be fine having a couple at the Ricoh.

However, at away games people go crazy. With the big games there is a sizeable number who go for the piss up. There would be no doubt of beer being thrown if we scored a late winner at Southend like last weekend.

That said, the MK Dons away celebration was the greatest in my time following the club. It looked outstanding and I'm not surprised it went viral.

Oh come on, "it looked outstanding"
I will put on my Disney waterproof to go to a football game!
If you got soaked and it's okay by you then fine but what about your fellow fans who have no say in the matter and didn't go to that game t get drenched by beer, at least I hope it was beer?!!!!

I much prefer the current rules. It gives me a three hour window, 11-2, each weekend, to binge drink the shit out of myself. The service is too good in the Cherry Tree!

I keep seeing this repeated. Is anyone actually saying that?
They're too drunk to remember.

And besides, I didn't really read the whole thread and skipped loads, so have no idea how many times it has been said before. ;)

Really? The one where people were throwing beer bottles and other objects into the other city fans?

This is part of the problem. "not surprised it went viral". "looked outstanding".

I have never even thought about trying to make celebrating a goal aesthetically pleasing so it can go viral.

Wasn't there, bit sounds like it was a bit of a nightmare for many.

The other thing I don't buy is this gigs, rugby and cricket argument.

Do fans there have to be seperated so they don't fight, have a large police presence, have the car parks and train stations and walk ups to the ground monitored and closely policed and have fans led away from the stadium at the end of the game in differing directions?

Football fans are a breed apart. We all know that. The majority will be fine with having a beer, but it only takes the smallest minority to spoil it for everyone.

It was full of people just wanting a day out. Far too many people trying to chew their own eyebrows off.

We scored, loads of bottles came flying down from the top tier into the bottom tier (our own fans), a couple of smoke bombs. Couple of kids threw a smokebomb at their goalie and got dragged out while the other fans all got worked up about it. People pissing in the stands. People running on the pitch with their kids after we scored. OAP nearly getting wiped out because 4 or 5 coked up twats in the space of 2 people decide that being at the "football" means they can just randomly throw themselves about without looking. All a bit embarrassing really and a perfect example of the reasons to put forward against Alcohol.

Sounds like a right bunch of dry weekdays.

It was all OK when it was mentioned at the time as "all of the shit our fans have been through, carried away, breaking point because of SISU".

The way people don't seem to be able to accept responsibility for themselves means it will be even messier. Baffled that some saw it as amazing.

I'm at my least aesthetically pleasing celebrating a goal.

The worst ones are when you don't expect a goal and you are taken by surprise or when you think it's a goal but it isn't. Must look like absolute muppets, dread to think what facial expressions are going on.

I've never lost it at a goal, a little fist pump (ooer) and that's about it. I can never decide if it's people going overboard or I'm just a bit of an emotionless robot. My calculations confirm it's the former, bleep blorp

I tend to jump up, make a weird noise / shout yeeeeeeeesssss and applaud.

I've never been one to try and jump over 4 rows or get that silly.

Yeah, that's about it for me too. Not much in the way of limbs or chucking stuff about, more a bewildered surprised if anything every time I see us do something good

Same here. Do often jump up and down and applaud quite wildly, but never end up across rows of seats or go flying anywhere.

I used to sit next to some bloke at HR for a few seasons I didn't know. ST next to me for 3 years.

He didn't even get out of his seat when we scored, or even applaud.

Used to watch the match with arms folded and didn't move a muscle when we scored and couldn't even bring himself to even conjure up a smile.

Always found that dead weird, but now I know that was ajsccfc.

In theory yes, just throw people out who throw beer / act up and ban them. In reality.

Man A Throws beer / acts up
Stewards go over
Man A and friends all kick off and refuse to move
Police go over
Man A and friends all get kicked out
Man A goes to the telegraph looking for attention and blaming club for being heavy handed for throwing him out
Man A gets a petition from other fans and other fans and a hashtag #prayformana

If it can be done and the twattish behaviour stopped then it would be great! (Especially when it's nice weather)

can i be the first to try and get a song going for him ?

man a man a, du du du du du

Not just about the beer throwing. The general celebration. It was aesthetically pleasing because it shows the passion. 8000 celebrating like they have won the lottery.

I assume you despised the celebrations during the World Cup, too?
