It is a rather strange event isn't it! I used to go trick or treating loads as a kid but just wouldn't do it with my kids anymore!!

Can't stand the way it's become so commercialised.
Go into any shop (where I live) and you are assaulted by stands of Halloween decorations, costumes and sweets for kids.
Almost everything Made in China.

We used to welcome trick or treaters, but this is the third year now that we haven't and we now put a 'sorry, no trick or treaters here please' sign on our door.

My wife is invariably asleep at this time (starts work at 5 am and has a nap from around 4pm until around 7pm) and also our dog barks like crazy every time someone knocks the door and is incredibly loud for a dog of her size.

Last time we did embrace it I think we had about 25 kids in total come to the door that evening.

Annoying American import. Luckily I live remote enough to avoid any kids calling so I don't have to wear my Jimmy Saville mask.

It's like a military operation to get in from work and dodge them. I wouldn't mind too much but there's massive gangs of them of about 10-15 at a time.

Might sound like the grinch but it's lights off and TV on loud so the dogs can't hear the door.

Daughter is always away for halloween, if she was here would probably make more of an effort as she would enjoy opening the door to them and giving them sweets.

Never had so many. Most we have ever had is 5 at the door at any one time.

15 is far too many.

There are bloody loads of them about, loads of teenagers as well who think a mask is going to get them anywhere.

Think I've said to you in several occasions, you live in the wrong part of Keresley and need to move down to the posh end.

The oldest we have had has been around 13 and the only 3 of them max and they have been fine.

10-15 must be quite intimidating.

The trouble is, if you kindly give a couple of kids a few goodies, they run off and tell every other little git they see that the "People at No ** give out goodies!" That's what happened to us one year when we lived in Tile Hill. I know this is true because a group of little scroats demanded sweets because they said we had given other kids some! That was it! Never again!

Not really intimidating as they just get this out the Window.

It would be for an OAP on their own for example.

I might invent a new rule that you can only trick or treat to houses with Halloween decorations outside. That's the rule we used when I took my daughter a few years ago.

We put a pumpkin out and have had a good 30+ took it in an hour ago (as there was hardly any sweets left for me to gorge on!)and not one since, appears the approach of if there is a pumpkin or some sort of sign out you can knock if not don’t has worked, prefer that method.

Had the old classic 6 lads 14/15 basically hoodies up, 1 with a mask, they came down just after a few little kids, thinking they were the dogs bollocks, I gave a look of (effing idiots grow up ) which they clocked and sheepishly took 1 sweet each (usually let the kids take 3/4 each) and sulked off!

I’m awaiting eggs and flour to land on the window anytime soon!

Did they not even bother to get one to pull their coat over the head and then get their mate in a headlock so it looks like they are holding their head?

No class with kids nowadays

Could be worse, I've just driven through Nuneaton and had to check if a group of people were dressed up. Absolute states.

I understand mums accompanying children on trick or treat visits but since when has it been necessary for their boyfriends to accompany the mums accompanying the kids? Are the streets of Coventry so dangerous now this has become necessary? (Serious question).

Never seen that.

In fact, I would say the majority we have down are street are dads with the kids and then quite a few granddads.

Not many women at all.

Shop owners in Riley Square Bell Green have had their cars damaged by youths, in the day time. The police know the culprits but don't do anything about it. The butcher said he wants a vigilante group to give the youths a few slaps, and see what happens ? I told him I'm in on that and a few others too. You see the coppers get involved then !

Probably not worth the trouble you will get into.

Especially as a couple of digs and leave it at that doesn't exist now, it's break into your house and stab you in your sleep type nonsense.

Halloween has got considerably more popular due to shit warehouses like Poundworld and B&M selling tat for next to nothing.

I personally prefer halloween to Christmas which is an intolerable few months of shit music, constant saccharine marketing, forced goodwill and expense.

You're right of course Nick. He said the same, but you can tell by many decent people's attitude these days that they're fed up with it all. I heard recently about a bloke who beat up a youth in Cov for something, and a gang smashed into his house in revenge wrecking it to bits as he was out, but terrorised his missus and kids. All that for a backhander !

Yep, you would have do a proper job now. Transit van to the countryside and take their knee caps off.

It's all different now :(

That's what they do in Northern Ireland. People pay heavies to do it, as the police ignored their problems with anti social youths etc.

When our kids were little and we used to take them trick or treating, there was one house with a lady (I think she was a retired school teacher) who always made the kids perform something before she would give them a treat. It could be recite a poem, sing a song, do a dance or something like that. The kids hated going to that house, but we kept forgetting which house it was and we got caught out quite a few times.
