Harry Kewell now given the boot.

From the brink of a play off final now looking for a 3rd manager this season.

Think their chairman is a bit random and is playing football club owner.

A bit random to sack him off so soon. Wonder if they have somebody lined up to step in?

It does seem like panic stations. Would piss myself if they got relegated though.

Whatever happened with their Middle Eastern takeover - I seem to recall a few years ago they were brought out weren't they?

Kewell, who joined the club in September, won only three of his 14 matches at the helm and Notts’ owner and chairman Alan Hardy says the board felt quick action was essential.

He said: “Harry’s passion and commitment as a coach is unquestionable.

“I enjoyed seeing first-hand his love for the job and it gives me absolutely no pleasure to take that away from him.

“Unfortunately, however, things quite simply were not working out for him here at Meadow Lane.

“Results have not been good enough and performance levels are a continuing concern. We see no reason to continue with something we don’t think can work.

“Harry leaves with our best wishes for the future and our search for a new manager begins immediately.

"We hope to make an appointment before Saturday’s Sky Bet League Two match at home to Cheltenham Town.”

He admitted in September that they overspent by 750,000 on player wages and fees last year too which is massive by L2 standards.

Ok.......

Don’t think anyone on this particular thread has said anything bad about the club and this situation they find themselves in, personally I’m glad we won or this situation could well of been us.

I said I'd piss myself if they got relegated. Especially if they are wearing their Wembley t shirts when the final whistle went.

They probably had the hotel and open top bus booked for it as well.

i didnt say you did, but there are many on here who seemto hate notts county for having the audacity to be aggrieved at ref decisions that have helped put them in this current shit situation

the same posters who declare each ref the worst ever every time cov lose of course.

Isn't so much the aggrieved it was the bloke in general. We played them at their own game, the pundits were up their arses because of Nolan and "who he was".

The other thing is with Kewell, it looks like they brought him in on the 31st August. The final day of the loan window. It was completely the wrong time to do it, should have done it at the start of the pre-season.

Whoever they bring in now will have to wait until January if he wants to make any changes.

The biggest mistake was appointing Kewell in the first place, he's shown nothing as a manager.

At least they've seen sense quick-ish.

‘Kewell was the only man for us’

Hardy believes Kewell is a long-term solution for Notts and admits he would signed him to a five-year deal if possible.

"I was really impressed with Harry's ambition," the chairman said.

"He wants a project, to take a club on a journey similar to Bournemouth and I thought that was brilliant. I see him as the long-term solution to this football club. We've got a journey, we've got a plan and this man is going to deliver it for us."

Although there's obviously a benefit of a chairman listening to fans, he seems heavily influenced by social media and things like that.

I bet Kewell is gutted he didn't get a 5 year deal. A nice payoff after a couple of months work.

Would have been us if we’d lost in the playoffs.

Football really is a game of fine margins!

Yes, Leyton Orient are another example of a club missing out on promotion then falling away badly the following year.

Such a relief we did win and get over the line, this could of been us in L2 in the lower reaches with very low gates.

Leyton Orient were spending silly money though and the gamble didn't pay off.

Wonder if Notts County will bring in Phil Brown as he is a "name".

How often does spending silly really work at the lower levels? Even at the top Chelsea and Manchester City did not reap the expected rewards initially. The idea that you can spend big one year and not keep that level of investment but expect the same performance is absurd.

It is crazy when you think of the amount of money being spent on football -then again it is supply and demand and we all want football

They make our managerial history looks like the embodiment of stability, consistency and loyalty. Think I read somewhere that over any timeframe you care to choose from recent years, they have had the highest turnover of managers.

It's as if they built themselves quite a big (20k) ground in the 1990s, decided that this made them a big club and that thus they were, due to their lower league status, were underperforming, and thus keep sacking managers who haven't replicated their Warnock-era top flight heyday.

I have nothing against Notts County as a club. Their fans are a decent bunch. Unfortunately that twat of a manager Nolan made everyone think they were a bunch of twats, whilst in reality it was only him.

Harry Kewell: last season we went to Crawley and pre-match was sat at the same table as their former chairman. He said Kewell (their manager at the time) had another club in mind, [I bet it wasnt Notts County. At the time it was when Charlton were being linked, but he said it wasn't them] and that his problem was that he got frustrated that the players couldn't do the things that he asked of them, as they weren't as talented as him.

Listened to a podcast the other week regarding studies done into management and it was suggested that if a manager was achieving less than 0.75 points per game after their first 8 games then statistically it was very unlikely they’d ever turn this round. Scary really, but it does bring an element to consider when it comes to making such decisions.

Supposedly the same was true of Hoddle when he managed England (and presumably other teams too).

Notts County over achieved last season, the way they tailed off showed that (look at us under Mowbray). Kewell should have been given at least this season.

I agree he should have been given the season but from the chairman’s point of view what are the consequences of falling out the football league.

That's why I'm never in favour of top class ex-pros, especially flair/attacking players just being parachuted into decent level jobs. Because they had such natural ability they've often not had to understand the more subtle parts of the game.

Obviously you get some exceptions to the rule but I'd say the best managers have tended to be those who had less illustrious playing careers and forged a career out of hard work and tactical awareness.

Nowadays you probably get the big team players wouldn't listen because it's all about the celebrity and 'been there', but winning as a player is VERY different to winning as a manager.

Looking at there squad you’d struggle to understand why they are struggling, over the summer they....

Paid a fee for Kane Hemings from Oxford who scored 15 goals last year at Mansfield in L2. Scored 5 goals so far this season

Paid a very good fee for Chesterfield’s Kristian Dennis who scored 19 in L2 last year and has only been used as bit part player so far this year

Also signed the very useful Dutch winger Enzio Boldewijn from Crawley in the summer so the business they did was very good over the summer in general with good investment to kick on again

Their chairman is a tool, carried a bitterness against us into the new season and even tried to drum up support for his Ilkeston Town club when they played Cov United as if it was some grudge match. Which is why I find it hilarious that they are up shit creek.

Yep, it could have been us. If we hadn’t have got out last season we would have maybe gone out of the other end in years to come. Similarly, Villa and Shrewsbury who missed out on the opportunity last season has/will now haunt for years to come having missed the boat.

bbc website today talking about prem clubs in the last 10 years who have sacked their manager in Oct or Nov.

Only one club in that period has ended the season lower than when that manager was sacked, and that was West Brom last year,...

Falling gates-Better players would have left (look at Shrewsbury for example) and it would have left a hangover. Couple that with a poor start and you have the Kevin Nolan situation which may have spelt the end for Robins. Glad it isn’t like that!

Thats known as Glenn Hoddle syndrome.
