Just come across this as was reading the BBC news.
Homeless population 'rises to 320,000'
Scaremongering? Scapegoating?
This is real life. Blame who you want for the homeless crisis. But not everyone will blame the same people as yourself. At least 320,000 homeless people in the UK? And they are just the official ones. Just those in temporary accommodation which is normally a hotel room shared between a family or those who are registered as being on the street. This doesn't include those where people are in squats. Or those who are 20 or even more people in a small house with mattresses in every available place.
Then you moan that your rent is too high. It is all about supply and demand. That is why house prices are too high. That is why people struggle to buy a place of their own these days. But as long as you can blame someone or something else all is OK. And if anyone mentions anything you come out with your old line of scapegoating immigrants. You ignore the problems caused by open borders for anyone with an EU passport.
Yes I understand that your parents were immigrants. I understand that your partner isn't from the UK. But this doesn't mean that you should deny the truth. It makes a difference. It makes people go against EU principles and then the EU.
This is why I say we need to catch up with the infrastructure. We need breathing space. It isn't that I am anti immigration. But we can't continue as we are now. Something has to change. And I don't trust any UK government to solve the problem. They see it as more important to build a train line through the country than solve the housing crisis.
