Burge 7

Grimmer 7 (brilliant comeback after Burton)
Willis 7
Hyam 7
Brown 7

Hiwula 5 (better than Burton but seems to be low on confidence)
Bayliss 7 (simply a joy to watch)
Doyle 6 (marked down for the error but I thought was ok tonight)
Thomas 7 (but should have scored)

JCH 6 (improved from Burton but I still would like to see more)
Chaplin 7 (good second half)

Subs:
JJ - just hope the injury is not serious, he looked dangerous the couple of minutes he was on
AB 8 (vital part in the goal and looked a threat even playing out of position, we should use him far more)

Robins: 6 (Hiwula should not have started but better subs today. Much more positive after half time vs. recent weeks)

Pretty entertaining - I would have been gutted if we'd lost this one.

Burge-7 Same as always
Grimmer-7 Much better
Willis-7 Solid as usual
Hyam-8 Won everything in the air
Brown-7 Pretty sound.
Doyle-6 minus one for that absolute howler
Bayliss-6 Flatters to deceive with his runs through the middle which look good but lack end product.
Thomas-7 Would have been an 8 if he scored. Needs to take his chances!
Hiwula-5 Very poor game.
JCH-8 Faded a bit towards the end but held everything up in the first 70 mins or so. MOTM.
Chaplin-7 Some decent link up play. Got the goal albeit a simple one.

Subs:
Jones-N/A Looked a bad one. Shame for him.
Bakayoko-6 Assist for the goal.

Amazing how different people see the game, Brown 5 ?

Pete, you might be on the high side for some of those as well

Felt like he just kept going out of play with the ball.

I thought him and Grimmer were both below par tonight but Grimmer had a decent ish 2nd half.

Felt Willis and Hyam both had to do extra at the back to compensate the full backs.

Grimmer was much improved from last week so hopefully it's just a fitness issue.
Though I'd still like to see Sterling back.

Burge - 6 - Didn't have much to do, did well when he came out for the corner to get it away. Shocking kick attempt
Grimmer - 7 - Think he was much better than Burton but when Toney went over to him he struggled, great recovering tackle at the start so extra point for that
Willis and Hyam - 7 - Seemed to win most of their battles and second balls, seemed to get dragged together a lot
Brown - 6 - Did well going forward and solid enough defensively
Hiwula - 4 - I don't get his technique with his back to goal, he seems to run at the ball as fast as he can so it makes it much harder to control it every time
Doyle - 5 - Only just better than Hiwula, awful set pieces and mistake for the goal was criminal. Marked higher because he got stuck in
Bayliss - 6 - Yes he was turning them like they weren't there and leaving for dust. It was like a beautiful thai ladyboy whipping their cock out every time he got near the box it was that climatic. Marked down 1 because we could have won if he just passed it.
Thomas - 7 - He should have gone down, he was getting through every time. Half the time nobody was up with him, the other times he just couldn't connect with the ball.
Chaplin - 7 - Extra point for the goal, a lot of his passing was very poor. He did the dirty work between the strikers and the midfield but again final ball or shot was woeful.
JCH - 7 - Personally thought he played very well, he held everything up most of the time but I don't think Chaplin is the sort of player to put with him.

Jones - NA
Baka - 6 - Think he proved there's no attitude problem, did more than Hiwula has for a few games. Assist and a great challenge tracking back. Didn't really stop moving about.

Burge - 7.5 did nowt wrong
Grimmer - 7 nit utilised enough second half
Willis - 6.5 okay but struggled with long balls
Hyam - 6.5 same as Willis
Brown - 6.5 very lively but gets caught napping when going forward

Bayliss - 8 great runs, cutting their midfield open time and time again, wish his final ball would be better
Doyle - 5.5 bit slow and laboured and obvious costly mistake
Hiwula - 6 never got going
Thomas - 7.5 great runs should have scored

Chaplin - 7.5 held the ball up well, great movement and a goal to boot
JCH - 6 hardworking but was never going to score

Subs

Baka - 6 not really much time to judge but think he needs a game soon in front of JCH
Jones - sick bed

It's evidently clear how poor of a footballer Hiwula is. Horrible touch, cannot finish and really struggles to beat a man.

Burge 7 - Safe hands and the guy that tried to shoulder barge him 2nd half got left on the deck. So confident these days.
Grimmer 7 - Much improved from last week and looked a lot fitter.
Willis 7 - Largely untroubled
Hyam 7 - would like to see him carry the ball 15 yards and then pass to Doyle rather than letting Doyle drop onto his toes and giving him a 5 yard pass.
Brown 7 - Got forward well in the 2nd half but lost his man for one of the free headers. Didn't always produce when attacking but it opened the game up just by getting there. Still looks a yard slow to me though.
Hiwula 5 - couple of woeful shots from the edge of the area. He's the wrong selection on the left against the better more organised teams.
Bayliss 7 - poor in the final 3rd today but the importance of his ability to carry the ball over long distances shouldn't be underestimated, especially when we play deep. We need to play higher more often to get the best out of him - turn those mazy runs into 30 yarders not 50 yarders so he's not knackered when it comes to playing the final ball.
Doyle 5 - thought he was poor first half but made a massive difference to the shape when he pushed up higher after half time. Awful set pieces today and the less said about that pass back the better.
Thomas 7 - missed a sitter 1 on 1 and should have had a pen. His pace is electric. No more end product than Bayliss today, so not sure why Bayliss got singled out.
JCH 6 - Started well but faded
Chaplin 7 - linked play well but also wasteful on a few occasions with his final ball. Scored his goal by being where I'd like to see him more often - buzzing round the penalty spot.

Bakayoko 7 - could see he was on it immediately today and that chase back and sliding tackle on half way showed it.

Robins: 7 - Wouldn't have started Hiwula today but thought his subs were good and he got us playing much higher after half time which reversed the 2nd half trend of recent weeks.

For a game with not many shots on goal I though it was a fun match albeit lacking in final 3rd quality from both sides.

Think Bakayoko deserves some credit for the assist and playing it simple to get a goal, judging by the rest of our players he could have snatched at it and scuffed it out of play.

Caused problems. He's a good player to bring on.

Burge 7 - Another great game that he has kept us in with vital saves. Player of the year for me so far!

Grimmer 7 - Great performance defensively, kept their wingers quiet for most of the game. Vital tackle early on against Toney to stop a certain goal.

Willis 7 - Aerially was fantastic. Had a lot of long balls and positioning was great every time against a physical Ivan Toney.

Hyam 7 - Same as Willis, great in the air and dealt with the bombardment of long balls well.

Brown 7 - Have been one of his biggest critics all year but was great today. Dealt with Marcus Maddison very well.

Doyle 6 - Does the dirty unseen work really well that he’ll never get credit for but lets him self down with the error for the goal.

Bayliss 8 - Carries the ball so well and seems to just breeze past players. Just lacked the end product today.

Hiwula 5 - Feel harsh marking him so low as he is clearly playing out of his natural position but he offered little today and often made similiar runs to Chaplin instead of staying out wide and creating central space.

Chaplin 6 - Feel he doesn’t use his pace enough and definitely should be having more shots in the positions he gets into.

Thomas 7 - Looks such a threat when running at defenders but in the final third he becomes a little bit predictable. Should definitely have scored when he was through.

JCH 8 - Man of the match for me today. Played fantastic and held the ball up as good as Ive ever seen him. Linked play up for Chaplin & Thomas brilliantly.

I’m always against the lazy footballer mentality but I thought today his performance was beyond poor. He needs a long look in the mirror

Burge, 7 - watched the highlights to rejog my memory, he made two good saves in the first half.
Grimmer, 7 - caused trouble down that right flank, but the final delivery was left wanting.
Willis, 7 - best defender today, headed everything away.
Hyam, 7 - reliable as always.
Brown, 7 - got forward well, defended well, winning a few headers. Growing into life at Cov.
Thomas, 7 - was a main threat, but missed a gilt edged chance
Bayliss, 7 - glided through midfield with some really good touches, but snatched at chances today.
Doyle, 6 - controlled the game well, but got caught out for the goal.
Hiwula, 6 - snatched at his chances, was otherwise v average.
Chaplin, 7 - only for the goal. Otherwise, he tried to play too many passes in the final third. Looked like he’s lacking confidence so really happy he scored.
JCH, 7 - my MOTM because he played v well in linking the play and was causing trouble for their defence.

Subs:

Jones, N/A - went with my physio friend, you could tell he knew he’s done something too it. Good news, he was able to walk on it. Bad news, will probably be out for a few weeks.
Bakayoko, 7 - made a good tackle, filled well on the left, won a few flick ons and got the assist for the goal. Good cameo.

Burge 7 - some good saves, no chance with the goal. Poor distribution but still solid enough

Grimmer 6 - better than recently. Tends to beat the first man with some nice skill then never actually do anything with it

Williis 6.5 - largely untroubled and played well

Hyam 6.5 - similar to Willis

Brown 7 - better game and got forward, still a few times where you know his clearance is going to be questionable.

Thomas 8 - MOTM always looks a danger, probably should have scored but created so much more than anyone else

Bayliss 7.5 - was also quality. Turns players inside out.

Doyle 4 - was shocking before the mistake for the goal. No idea how he’s got 6s in here. We need a replacement ASAP

Hiwula 3 - completely anonymous, offered nothing

Chaplin 5 - was poor and his goal doesn’t make up for it

JCH 7.5 - won everything and link up play was good

Ok he dint have a great game but he was still heavily involved in the game first half had found himself in good position on at least 3 occasions only to be let down by his finishing

I like Hiwula, but just thought he was poor today. To be fair 3 might have been harsh, Doyle was probably worse

JCH ‘man of match.’ Not for me. JCH ‘won everything in the air’...he didn’t get off the ground on a number of occasions. I have criticised other forwards (and midfielders) for not being close enough or not running beyond JCH. he was ok tonight but never motm.
For me Willis was the stand out player tonight. And Thomas and Baylis had good games when running with the ball but both let themselves down with the final ball/decision. Thomas would be the perfect winger if he could use his right foot half as well as he uses his left.

What has Brown done to offend you, I thought he had an almost faultless game. Chaplin on the other hand was dire - to slow over the ground and in the head.

4 for Hiwula -shocking, 5 for Doyle - criminal mistake and poor set pieces, 6 for Chaplin - includes extra point for goal as his lay offs and shots were pretty poor. 7s for everyone else except Bayliss who I thought was outstanding and I'd give 8 for MotM.

Zero for fatty Evans horrible little man, horrible big cheaty players too. I can't articulate well enough how much I wish he was out of the game.

Bearing in mind 6 is average, and we scraped a draw at home

Burge 6.5 - two very good saves, not at fault for the goal or the the two easy chances they fluffed
Grimmer 7 - good going forward, but their main threat came from his side
Hyam 6.5 - steady, but they should have scored twice and both chances came from crosses. Doesn't dominate like Davies
Willis 7 - see Hyam, but he seems to have the ability to clear the lines really well
Brown 8 - really good performance and unlike some seems to be able to use his weaker foot. Always felt he could play himself out of danger.
Doyle 5 - Bad error, poor set pieces.
Bayliss 8 - for those of a certain age, there is a touch of Tommy Hutchinson about him. Went awol at the start of the second half, probably because of the knock he received, but finished strongly MOM
Thomas 6.5 - Midfield don't get the ball to him enough, clearly he can beat tier 3 fullbacks. Are him and Grimmer in the middle of acrimonious divorce proceedings? Bad miss
Hiwula 4 - so much ability, such poor outcomes. Poor shooting, a couple of them would have disgraced a half decent parks footballer
Chaplin 4 We've bought a dud. Too slow over the ground, poor positional sense when opportunities arise. Too busy blaming others. A scrambled goal at the end doesn't change that
Clarke-Harris 5 - Puts himself about effectively, and wins ball. Except his shot in the 2nd half, I can't remembers seeing him in a real goal scoring position -

Robins - Hiwula should have come off earlier
Bakayoko - instant impact with an important tackle back, made the goal
Jones - even before the injury, he looked lightweight

We should have won this game easily, but are not going to score goals with these two plus Hiwula as our main strikers. I hope Robins goes to the January sales
