Agreed. Thomas has a tough Doyle/Dennis Wise type streak about him. He never shirks a challenge, is quick, and has stamina to spare. If he could finish he would be in Derby's first team, with a queue of Premier league teams looking at him. I'm really hoping Derby do well without him, so they don't feel the need to recall him. At the moment if he were to leave in January, the only (but not as good) way of compensating for his loss (short of a new player) may be to play Sterling on the right, with Grimmer staying at full back. I just hope Frank Lampard serves early notice of his intention, but it would only take an injury to a Derby player over the busy Christmas period for him to change his mind, so I think MR needs to plan to expect him to go back and treat it as a fantastic bonus if he stays.

I don't think he's much better than what Kent was and I didn't rate Kent too highly.
I’d say better than Kent , more direct & he wins a lot of balls as one of the best tacklers in the side. If we had strikers that could finish then his finishing wouldn’t even be questioned... as he isn’t a striker, and scored a couple already.
His job is to be creative and Rio open defences, and he does it with aplom. We only berate his final product as our strikers aren’t doing the job for us right now. Imagine him with McNulty in the team!!

Best and most consistent player in the side at the moment bar maybe Lee Burge and Dom Hyam.
Those that don’t see that he will be a full international in the future must watch a different game to me. Yes his finishing needs to improve but so did his decision making when he first came to us and that seems to be heading in the right direction in the mere 4 months he has been here.
Those that say he has no end product need to look at some of the crosses he has put in recently namely the one sublime cross he put in last night in the first half, if we actually had players gambling with runs in the box all the would have had to have done was get a nick on it and it would be in the net.

Partridge had a hell of a lot more end product and at least as much skill, probably more. 4 goals in 23 at Championship level, including some screamers, as opposed to 2 in 17a division lower (including cup) with a big slice of inept goalkeeping contributing. Partridge would have gone a lot further in the game but for injuries.

The standard of the Championship when Partridge was with us was a lot lower than it is now. Probably a similar level to League 1 now. One or two good players in a team made a huge difference. Thomas has been exceptional good but his final ball and finishing needs to improve... Which I think it will.

That's bollocks. His runs have purpose, he wins balls he shouldn't and turns bad passes into good ones. Nothing aimless about his game

He’s a good player, but needs to work on his end product a lot if he’s going to break into the Derby 1st team. In particular, his finishing needs to improve and he needs to get more crosses into the box. The latter, however, might be more tactical because some of his crosses have been very good.

People got annoyed with Murphy because he clearly had talent but sometimes he couldn't be arsed. So many times he lost the ball and then stood with his hands on his hips.
While I don't think Thomas has as good an end product at the minute, if he loses the ball he will at least chase back to try and win it back. Plenty of times on Friday night Thomas was back in our half covering for Grimmer and putting tackles in.

There aren’t many attack minded midfielders who can track back and actually tackle rather than foul like this kid does! Playing where he does he’d be excused for making too many ‘strikers tackles’ and just taking the man out, but he seems so composed. Friday night he even slid in from behind at one point and won the ball perfectly, something even some defenders struggle to do.
We certainly have an asset on our hands and hope we can keep him beyond January!

For me when we talk about end product I’m talking taking these chances when in on goal or hitting the target as a minimum. At least if he hits the target the keeper saves there is a second opportunity potentially for the side
That comes with experience and confidence and composure all of which is coming if you break down his appearances in first half and second half. His last 10 say he’s improved a lot, imagine what you might get in another 10 and we keep him till May.
Staying the season will help his game a lot
As someone said we’re only splitting hairs about him as Bayliss, Hiwula, Chaplin and JCH are having the same fortunes in front of goal often in games or when in 1v1

There are very few players I have seen winning inch perfect tackles in their own half one minute and then steaming though defences to get one on one with the keeper in the next. He certainly looks a real talent and I expect him to play at the top level. As said, if he could finish he wouldn’t be here. Also, is this not his first season in men’s football?
