Decent restaurants in Coventry? (3 Viewers)

As I don't live in the City, and we have some visitors next week, I'm looking to book somewhere decent. Any recommendations?

Personally I'd prefer Indian, but most likely I think an Italian so that it's a best fit for all.

I've not eaten out in Cov for years so really out of touch with what's about.

Are you wanting town centre?
Ideally I guess as there will be a little more going on, but not massively fussed as it will be taxis regardless, since I've put them in the Novotel down by the Ricoh and then we can all go to the casino later in the evening :)

The only places up that way are chicaritos and frankie and bennies.

There are a couple of nice indian places in Holbrooks but havent been for a while so might not be now!

Back in the day there was a nice food place inside the casino, I cant remember if it was all you can eat but they did have curries etc.

Thx, although none of those really fitting the bill at present. Could pop back to Leamington where I know plenty of decent places to eat but I'd be amazed the size of the City if there aren't a few decent hidden treasures.

Or Salt in Stratford, if he's going Michelin Star rating and wallet busting...

tbh, I don't know of any decent Italian places in the city centre - I'd probably head for Leamington if that was my option, too! There used to be one on the edge of Spon Street but:

I have no idea if it was any good;
I have no idea if it closed years ago or not!

So here ends my helpful contribution...

I can only think of the bella italia chain place by the belgrade. The one round by Ann Summers closed down didn't it?

Otis is the man you need to check with, he dines at places in town 3 times a day, 7 days a week I think :)

Didn't realise Salt had a Michelin star, I'd like to try it out.
There are several decent restaurants in Stratford now, (it used to be quite poor for them considering it's fairly affluent and has a lot of tourists).
I like Tailors in Warwick as well.

Just got it... which annoyingly means they've whacked their prices up before I went!

There are a fair few pubs converting to be an Indian restaurant too around here. There's one just opened in Coundon (by the roundabout).

Apparently really nice food, same as the Hollybush!

(worlds apart from michelin star stuff though)

The old Cedars pub, a few lads at work have recommended it.

Mainly chains in the city centre.

You have Pizza Express, Pizza Hut, Bella Italia, Zizzi. Then there is Basement Browns, Sovrano (only open until 8) and Cafe Italia (only open until 7).

That's your Italian choice.

General independents, you have Bailey's Kitchen, Playwrights, Drapers, Artisan Grill, Al Bader (Lebanese).

That's off the top of my head.

You then obviously have the other chains, Wagamama, Cosy Club, Los Iguanas, Pierre Bistrot and the Botanist, Nandos.

Also there is the PGR restaurant. Pizza/Grill. Forgot about that one. Millennium Place by CWR.

There too is a highly rated Korean restaurant and highly rated Japanese restaurant.

I used to like the BHS cafeteria and before that the Woolworths cafeteria.
You can't get baked beans in most restaurants, it's beneath them.

Ginger Orange on Kenpas Hwy is an Indian I've gone to a couple of times and had decent meals.

To be fair I have been at that was OK

The Edge in Kenilworth is really good as far as UK Indian food goes

Do I? Do I really? Why do you always have to be so sarky about everything?

'Zizzi is an Italian restaurant group with150 restaurants across the UK and Ireland'.

THEY believe they are an Italian restaurant.

Both you and I know they are not a true Italian restaurant chain, but that is what they tout themselves as.

Don't know why you always have to try and be so smug.

Over sensitive response

Not really. It was a tired, here he goes again response.

Your entire remit on here seems to be to try and put people down.

I find it laughable to be honest.

You constantly make jokes about posters on here

Tell you what I’ll put a smiley face on the end next time as that’s clearly a differential for you

Where is Sovrano and Al Bader?

Royal Bengal in Earlsdon is lovely, Avoid the place at the top of the highstreet by the post office (can't remember it's name), gave me the shits for about 3 days after and it was average at best.

Bombay Palace?

I went a few years back and it was really nice, but like I say, that was a few years ago.
