What's the point of it? What does it do waving about that it doesn't do sitting on the ground? I'm all for getting kids in cheaply through the turnstiles, but surely this pointless exercise has now over-stayed its welcome.

It lets a group of kids take part in the whole matchday thing and get involved. Pretty harmless, surely.

Just looks a mess on the pitch (imo) and then they all troop off again. Apologies if it sounds grumpy, but just give them free tickets for the stands and leave the shirt where it is.

While we're on the subject of matchday experience ,and again not wishing to sound like an old curmudgeon, did we really have to have the minutes appluase at the start today .i'm chuffed to bits that fabrice looks like he's going to make a full recovery but found todays tribute a bit too over sentimental.

Well you grumpy old so and so's .... My two little ones , both were involved in shaking the giant shirt before the Coventry-Portsmouth match , It may look messy on the pitch to you , But i can tell you seeing the excitement on my children's faces , being able to step on the pitch and do this before the game was an awesome experience not only for them , for but me as a parent , i was very proud that they had the chance to do this ... and i bet the same could be said for the other children's parents
My little one who is 6 thinks he some kind of celebrity lol and has ranted to everyone and anyone that will listen about his pre match experience ... So let the children have their moment , let them feel the excitement felt by my children and just let them shake the shirt .... after all like i said it may look messy to you , but it is so much more to others than a pre match mess

I think it's great to get the kids involved, my lad did that penalty shoot out they use to do when he was about 9, and still remembers it 6 years later.

I think we actually should try to do more...mini footie games stuff like that;)

Definitely support club in the community stuff, West Ham and Charlton run loads of stuff like that down here, kids get to meet players, work with youth coaches, tickets and travel to games all for a nominal fee to the parents.

Future supports - absolutely, future players - who knows!

Don't mind the shirt waving at all - you could see on the childrens' faces as they came off how excited and proud they were.

On the other hand I found the announcements for the substitutions 'sponsored by xyz accident repair centre' totally cringeworthy.

Don't really see the point in having a big sheet that looks like a shirt smack bang in the middle of the pitch, only to be shook about and then taken off before kick off to be honest. Waste of money, time and effort.

SO on one hand we have a go when we don't see enough community involvement. They do something like this for the kids and then the same people complain... Can't have it both ways!

WTF?

Are people really moaning about our possible younger fans getting something extra out of their trip to the Ricoh? If them standing there flapping their little arms about for 10 mins means that they'll continue to go to the City for the rest of their adult lives surely that's a good thing?

And moaning about clapping for Muamba? Baffling :thinking about:

At times I think that half the posts on here are from my MIL as she's a grump :p

As applause/silence tends to be for the passing of someone I thought doing it for Muamba felt a little off, but the sentiment was completely well-meaning so no biggie.

Its probably the shirt the trust were trying to raise money for ,with the idea of passing it over the crowds heads, which is impluasable due to too many vacant seats ,
so its being put to good use giving the little ones a moment to savour and start them on the road to this affliction we all have ,no harm there surely.Think Rob +Gray acknowledge early in the thread it might be GOM ,covfan nothing else to moan at syndrome.

I can't believe anybody bregrudges the youngsters having the opportunity to be out on the pitch before the game. These are our future fans. I would have absolutely loved the chance to have done that when I was young. Didn't anybody see that really dinky kid? He was waving the shirt like his life depended on it and was clearly having the time of his life.

Can't wait until my girls are old enough so that I can try and get them involved.

Have to agree about the Muamba minutes appluase though. I sincerely hope he makes a full recovery but I have never seen that sort of tribute given to somebody who is alive. Completely over the top.

Over the top?

The bloke died, but by some miracle work by some amazing doctors he's still here. Any little piece of hope / support being shown to him is going to be a massive help to him whilst he's still in hospital and continues the rest of his rehabilitation.

If you can't bring your hands together for 60 seconds of your life to "help" someone in their recovery then that's just sad imo.

A little story:
My old man had cancer years ago. In my head when he told me (I was 12) that he was ill I thought I'd lost him. The MacMillan nurses that supported me, the rest of my family soon put that thought out of my mind with positive stories about other patients they had looked after.

So my point:
That little bit of positivity has a MASSIVE influence on the bearing of how someone deals with a situation. Muamba sat there seeing hundreds of thousands of people showing him a little bit of support must help, mustn't it? But nah, it was over the top......

I'm sure Muamba would have been gutted if there was no minutes applause at the Coventry v Portsmouth Championship fixture a week after he survived.

Did I say I didn't join in? Of course I joined in, but I still think it was over the top.

Where does it end? Do you start giving a minutes applause to somebody like Aron Ramsay after he had that bad leg break because nobody knew at the time whether his career had ended? Did we have a minutes applause for John Hartson when he announced he had cancer? Before you know it we'll be having a minutes applause before every game at which point surely it becomes meaningless?

But yet I am sure that we applauded Busst when it was seen that he could walk again? Maybe it's because it wasn't one of our lads?

I agree it shouldn't be for stuff like Ramsey, Nilis or everytime Kieron Dyer makes a return but he actually died on the pitch.

Exactly! A minutes applause at Bolton and even at Spurs was perfectly expected and acceptable. The others tbh I can understand at former teams (Arsenal and Blues) everything else is conforming to what people thisnk is the right thing to do. Christ our idiots had to be told to do a silence after rememberance day (when we were teh only team in the FL who hadn't already done so) and as I said last week on a similar topic there was no mention of the people I can relate more with like the six servicemen who died in Afghanistan. Tbh the more often these thkngs are done, the more they seem diluted.

Looks guys over the top or not .... It was one minute of your life ... Does it really matter ? ?? Are you really gonna sit and moan about one minute ?? Jeezzzzzz and its meant to be woman that do all the moaning lol

Any ways back to the subject on hand .... I for one wish to see the shirt shaking continue to happen before any match ... Fair play to whos ever idea it was to get the kids involved
As for cost , like stated before , apart from the cost of the shirt , i dont see how it causing more cost , in fact its putting bums in the seats , as the children who are involved with shaking the shirt are all there because of a promotion to get people / families to the games ... And if its that bad to watch close yours eyes ... or count your fingers ..... ~smiles~

If it gets more kids watching City and not asking for a Chelsea top for Christmas then one giant shirt isn't enough.

Honestly can't believe people are moaning about giving a minutes applause to a young man who almost lost his life playing the sport we all love to watch.

Imagine if it had have been one of our players...it would have meant the world to the clubs fans and the lads family to see clubs around the country/world showing their support and respect to the lad.

Muamba has links/friends throughout many clubs up and down the country. It wouldn't surprise me if one or two of the lads that suited up for us and Pompey on Saturday know him. Maybe they have played on the same team or against him.

For that one minute we as football fans showed our appreciation for a man that almost died playing football. The fact that some are saying we shouldn't have done it is just ridiculous. I'm a grown man and was nearly in tears watching everything unfold on the TV. The player, the clubs doctors and all medical staff involved in bringing him back to life and keeping him alive fully deserved that minutes applause.

Kids having their time on the pitch.

What's wrong with that? Go get yourself a pie or a pint if you don't want to watch.

Every time me, my dad and my kids (all season ticket holders) go up, all we are surrounded by is grumpy old men moaning about everything.

Stay at home, you're not needed and your whining pisses us off.
