Anyone hearing anything positive about a couple of experienced heads coming in either on loans or permanent deals? We badly need a striker and I'm stumped as to who is available, who would realistically come and who could hit the ground running. I'd love to try and get Nakhi Wells from Burnley on a deal until the end of the season but highly doubt he'd be prepared to drop down two divisions.

Nathan Holland from West Ham would be a brilliant addition to the midfield, very talented lad. These are all just pipe dreams though. So anyone got any real news?

Whatever we do in this window (and it’s bound to be limited), we are highly unlikely to get promotion, and as we won’t be relegated, I think that MR should focus on developing and improving the players he brought in. We then look again in the summer transfer window, with a view to bringing in players that will help us to mount a promotion push. We can’t just ‘write off’ the 500k spent on Chaplin, and the money spent on Hiwula, Bakayoko etc.

i would like us to sign marc mcnulty and carl baker xx

Bearing in mind your profile name, I presume you would also like us to sign MAF. we realistically COULD recruit him from Chesterfield, given the state they're in. I think their boss has said he can leave.

I seen a rumour about Curtis Jones of Liverpool. There was someone else but I forgot, will post if I remember.

We were linked with Curtis Jones months ago bizarrely. Perhaps one MR tried to get over the line in the summer but failed. My mate is a season ticket holder at Anfield and he claims Klopp isn’t a fan of shipping his young players on loan - as and when it can be avoided that is. Could be wrong but unless we can guarantee Jones will play week in week out I have a feeling this will remain as just a rumour.

Jones starting tonight for Liverpool

Remember Vladimir Gadzhev was an 'experienced head' and a Bulgarian international.

But why polish up somebody else’s diamond, we have our own 18/19/20+ years olds here shouldn’t we be looking at them ? Personally apart from emergency loans such as goalkeeper I would only take 12 month loans as we did Sterling and thankfully now Thomas.
So you are happy to polish up thomas and sterling but no other loans? If any loan improves on what we have we should do it. Why waste time with players like shipley when they arent good enough if we can get somebody better?

As Garryb80 put. If the incoming player is better than what we already have, and that is including academy graduates, then why not. I neither care whether it’s a loan or a permenant signing. If they’re better than what we have bring them in. We’ve started the season well and I for one would want to see us push on rather than tail away - all because we’re giving sub-par players that lack the quality to play at this level a chance. There’s no point throwing academy graduates of 18/19 into the mix if they’re not ready as if anything that would be counterproductive for their careers rather than productive. Most importantly it would also be counterproductive for the team. We need help during this window as we’re starting to be stretched pretty thin in terms of injuries and players that just simply haven’t cut it. So where else should this help come from if not loans as we certainly don’t have the budget to bring in anyone permanently?

We borrowed two last year did they make a difference in fact neither played in our successful run up to promotion and if you read what was put i am quite happy with 12 month loans. How do we know if the likes of Walters, Thompson, Bosma, Williams, plus the recently signed Acadamy players if we don’t try them.

We cant sign a 12 month loan in january so does that mean you wouldn't loan anyone even if they are clearly better than what we have? Odd if so. You seem to want to throw untried youngsters in with no idea how they will get on just because they are our players. Your logic baffles me

So, you're saying Thompson should be playing instead of Sterling and Walters instead of Thomas? We'd be in the bottom 3

I think what magwitch is trying to say (and I hope he doesn't mind me intervening) is that season long loans are okay as they contribute significantly for the whole year. That's about the same amount of time as a good young player of our own may last before being sold on anyway.

However, at this point of the season I don't believe we have anything to play for. If we were going for promotion or avoiding relegation then by all means bring in some top class loans. This season, all that will do is stunt the growth of our own youngsters. Why loan a premiership striker for 6 months to take Chaplins place for 20 games? Next year we would have a Chaplin who is 20 games less experienced. Same goes for a winger when we could give Shipley another 20 games at league one level to build for next year. I'm not saying I agree with this or that it is what I would do but that's the logic anyway.

I agree, if we we're going for promotion or avoiding relegation then we'd need bodies in but as a season of consolidation we should be looking at improving our own players for a push next season.

Thank you ccfcoi87 for putting some logic into what i said. Greggs! Are you judging Thompson a centre half on a couple of matches at right back ?I seem to remember at the start of this season there was quite a lot of disquiet re the ability of Sterling for example.? If the likes of Walters as an example are not ready now to try his hand all be it from the bench in third division football when will he be ? Klopp played a 16,17 and 18 year old last night against a pretty well full strength Wolves, okay they lost, but the boost he gave those three plus others of similar ages at the club would be massive. I’m not anti loans but as ccfcoi87 said how does a half season loan benefit us long term unless it’s a seasoned pro.

Spot on! I don’t think we’ll be promoted or relegated this season, so let’s develop our our own players, and crucially, give them experience that will hopefully benefit us next season.

It's not pissing about though? It's playing with the players we've already got and have got us to this position already.

It depends on which players we are suggested to put in?

I agree, don't bring somebody in to replace Chaplin / Hiwula. Shipley isn't ever going to be a winger so can't see the issue there.

We're 8th FFS, 2 places away from the playoffs. Why shouldn't we look to strengthen, whether loan or permanent, and see if we can push on?

We do seem to be weak down the left hand side ( compared to Thomas and Sterling down the right), so some strengthening there would be reasonable.
