11 wins from 19 remaining games to make playoffs (4 Viewers)

Bored at work so worked it out. 70 pts in last 6 years is enough for playoffs. We currently have 38 so require another 32. 19 games remaining so 11 wins will do it.

But CAN we do it? we need to take out wimbledon first and really go into each game as the aggressors

2 wins from every 3 will do it.

tough ask but doable!

Sitting where we are at this point in the season we're definitely not out of the running, big task but hopefully we give it a go. Should keep in mind that it's our first season back though and finishing top 10 would be a massive achievement and somewhere to build for next season.

I wouldn't go as far to say it's doable as that is a big big ask given how inconsistent we are. Our current record over the course of the season stands at one win every 2.4 games. Which is a decent record in itself. But if you look at Doncaster they're pretty much getting exactly one win in two. We'd have to become far more consistent to achieve a play-off spot as well as rely on a club dropping off. If we suffered another fairly severe winless steak (which if last season proves anything is a possibility) as we did throughout November and December that would end any play-off hopes.

I may be in the minority here and there are seemingly lots of fans who expect instant success, but given that we are a newly promoted team I think it's been a good season so far.

The worry is that we cant be sure we will be allowed to build on a mid table finish next year. We might sell everyone and budget be slashed by SISU, or we might not exist next year! need to try take this chance. Much harder to kick us out of ricoh if we became a championship team the month prior

Definitely possible but I can't see any of the current top 6 dropping off, as long as they hang on to their key men. Think the main challengers from the rest will be us, Peterborough, Burton and Blackpool, don't really see the others as much of a threat although there will inevitably be a surprise package emerging from somewhere, possibly Shrews under Ricketts or Scunny at a stretch with the players they've brought in.

For comparison purposes, our record from our final 19 games last year was:

Giving us 31 pts. At this stage last year we had 44 pts and 2 more wins than we currently do this season. Need to hope we start scoring more goals and the team starts to click and eradicate the inconsistencies we've seen thus far.

Not saying we haven’t had a good season wherever we finish, but still don’t buy this “something to build on” idea in L1. The squad and the league changes too much season to season, you get out through luck, investment, or momentum IMO and we have the latter right now.

End of the season we will lose Thomas, Sterling and likely Bayliss as well as possibly a few others like Burge, Willis, etc. Given that, what exactly are we supposed to be building on when in all likelihood next seasons squad will look very different?

If it was the Championship for the Prem I’d understand as there’s a huge gap between top and bottom to traverse, I just don’t see that at this level.

Personally I think if we don’t get there this year we will finish lower next season. Just to stick my neck out.

I agree with this there’s a lot on the line for the rest of this season, especially with the new possibility of a championship team pushing a Ricoh deal to happen

there is definitely an outside possibility. Our goals conceded is similar to Charlton, Peterborough, and Doncaster. If we could somehow address the goal scoring issue. Maybe if Wilson is sold and we get some money to spend?

We were 3rd this time last season in the automatic spots. We were in and around the play off places all season until we had a wobble in the early part of 2018. We recovered and were back in the play offs by March, as far as I recall we stayed there.

Completely agree re the significant changes we’ll likely see between the end of this season and the start of next. We pretty much know for certain Sterling won’t be back, and it’s unlikely Thomas will be, so that’s two of our better players gone and a new right side required.

Plus, if Bayliss goes that’s our midfield creativity gone, as is our defensive pace if Willis leaves.

Which is why it’s even more important we go for it for the reminder of the season. 2/3 wins is a tough ask, but it’s do able. However there is a reliance on MR not to be cautious; we need to play to win, not to avoid defeat.

Despite the personnel changes, a top 10 finish still gives the club as a whole something to build on, and IF Bayliss, Burge and Willis stay, then 8/11 of our regular starters this season will be here next.

But problem is this season the top 6 finish may be higher than 70/72 points. More likely to be 74 points with form shown by top 7.

Doncaster (who are 6th) average 1.73 pts per game. If they and everybody above them keep up their ratios then Doncaster finish 6th on 79 pts. All of a sudden we need to win 14 from 19 to overtake them. Fortunately for us football is not played by mathematicians.

I'd say we need to win at least 8 and not lose more than 6.

I agree this could have a bad effect on Luton and surely fatty Evans at Peterborough will be found out soon ?
I seriously think we are in with a chance. Whilst we would be underdogs who knows at that stage ?

If at the half way point of the season you had said win 14 from 23 for 70odd pts then probably would of said no chance, win 3 in 4 since then and its ooh, err maybe, win 11 from 19, very doable but highly unlikely we are way too inconsistent, we dont beat the lower positioned poor playing teams often enough, always seem to lower ourselves to their standard and lose.
