If they can’t get Thorpe then beg Goich to come back but I would imagine he wouldn’t be popular with the players as he would cut out the sloppy shot making.

We talked about lack of runs in county cricket last summer.
Stat attack - 70 batting bonus available in Div 1. No side that averaged more than 3 per game (surrey best with 41 pts but that is 7 games at the Oval!!).
6 of the 8 Div 1 sides averaged less than 2 pts per game.
Of course Div 1 sides packed with over the hill Kolpak players doesn't help either

County games were finishing on a regular basis inside 2 days, total under 200 runs in any inns.
Worrying times for red ball fans.
Red ball games played start/end of season when conditions are at their toughest!

I like Nasser Hussain's observation that the So-called next in line batsmen are moving themselves down the order in CC cricket because it is easier.eg. Denley, Roy, Vince

Went to look at the cricket score this morning, and then realized they'd already beaten us!

Read on Twitter today that Bob Willis has Sadie we need a player like Ian Bell and quite a few people said how about a player like him how about him. I think he was discarded to early but I think he has been away to long now.

There does seem to be a shortage of players coming through

I don’t hold out much hope if that’s the next three to come in.

It won’t be Clarke in next as he has been stood down by the lions for some iffy behaviour

Oh yeah that case which has gone to a retrial, he’s not a party in the trial but they left him out whilst it’s being resolved.

From my viewing of the lions this winter no real standouts with th bat, think Duckett and Billings have been the ‘better’ of the bunch

I see the Windies captain Holder has been suspended for the 3rd Test for slow over rate, fair enough as they’ve been very slow, lucky for England really as it could have been over within 2 days!

Neither of them are likely to pull up any trees in test cricket also another two keepers is their aim to have six keeper batsman and then a few bowlers

3rd Test- Foakes has been dropped! Can you believe it!
Disgraceful decision, Jennings back in Denly to 3.

Foakes dropped to keep in the ‘boys’!

Woakes at 9 and the calls are getting louder to bring back Ian Bell I personally think his time has gone

Woakes has got to sort his injury problems out and get fit for the start of the season and World Cup.

Agree on Bell, would be interesting if he did hit the ground running in div 1.... but they’d have to bat him for England at 3

So Jennings back in and a fit Foakes dropped.
Laughable.
Root not brave enough to drop his mates.

Ha. I wrote same thing but obviously didn't push post button when news came out.see above.
Time for a rethink of Root's captaincy if he isn't strong enough to rock the boat.

This current set-up likes mistreating young players after a couple of games.
Picking on a young lower order player when fault lies with top order. Jennings shouldn't be on this tour let alone back in side

Quite right. The team is crying out for a solid top order player. They have been picking such a player as a number 8 batsman, but have dropped him to pick Keaton Jennings instead, with predictable results. Perhaps a better plan would be to pick Foakes as a specialist number 3, get Bairstow to bat a 5, Stokes at 6 and Buttler at 7 for the impact, Gilchrist-style roal originally envisaged for him when he was brought back in May. Oh and find a decent opener to partner Burns; it isn't Denly by the looks of things and it sure ain't Jennings who looks about as a competent a Test opener as I do.

Stokes saying England's batting approach and discipline hasn't changed for this Test. Maybe the England set-up is so insular they believe that nonsense - kind of like a cult.

Getting bowled out for low scores happens against good attacks etc but I don't think I've seen a series when so many wickets have been thrown away.

Jennings race was run at Test level before this test so it’s ridiculous and a waste to give him this Test perfect opportunity to have given Foakes a go at 3

Agreed.
World and his wife (apart from England selectors) know Jennings can't handle pace or movement,
Said in Sri Lanka could see Foakes at 3 - fights for his wicket and technically pretty good.
