Na, think it’s longevity of service or something like that. That’s another thing I don’t understand-people have surely been voting her in for however long she has been a councillor-over 20 years is it? Must have done some good somewhere to get the same gig again and again for that amount of time?

Not necessarily, she's a Labour councillor in Coventry. People in Coventry don't read manifestos, they just vote Labour, no questions asked. If you pinned a red rosette on a broken hat stand most people would still vote for it.
My Father-in-law is a prime example of it. Always moaned about Lucas and the sale of the Ricoh, all the councillors that voted in favour, the WMCA. He moans about it all. But ask him who he voted for...... "Same party I've always voted for my whole life!!"

I would suggest with very low turnout in local elections most people just vote by party. Doubt there's many people in the city who could reel off the names of their three councillors.

I believe it's a ceremonial post which they give to the longest serving counciller, current incumbant is actually a Tory.
As for this reflecting on her record thats nonsense they'd vote for a donkey with a red rosette in the ward she repesents.

As has been said, it's more to do with her party than her. If she became a Tory then the same people who've voted for her continuously for years would all of a sudden despise everything she stood for.

Why does that matter? Doesn't explain why helping CCFC should be an 'obligation' of the council. Their obligation is to the residents of Coventry and large numbers of them don't support CCFC, or even like football.

Which is exactly why the council should be doing everything it can to ensure the club stays in business and stays in Coventry. Stop thinking of it as a football club and think of it as a business that employs local people, generates millions for the local economy and is one of the most high profile things nationally and internationally we have in the city.
Was listening to the news on CWR last night and the council are meeting with Aldi as they are talking about closing a single store in Coventry yet they refuse to even meet with the football club.

An elected Mayor (a new post) is completely different to the (ceremonial) Lord Mayor.
Besides its been superseded by having an elected West Midlands Mayor.

Or are you just pointing out the difference between somebody elected and somebody standing on ceremony?
Either way I think a petition should be started. The woman doesn't deserve this role. She's a joker who (in my te at least) has screwed this proud city over numerous times.

It's amazing how you need a referendum for the setting up of a Coventry Mayor but you can ignore the same publics will when setting one up with the creation of the WMCA and a future Mayor.

Start a petition if you think it is important but don't be surprised if it is greeted with indifference.

This was seven years ago though. People views can change in that time. Especially if someone creates a post of Mayor for a combined authority which the Coventry people didn't want and then being made ceremonial Mayor of that City.
Surely a measure of public opinion is needed here on recent events.
