Haven't we all been through this pain before - Coventry have to play in Coventry full stop - EFL have said Coventry must play in Coventry - playing out of the city we will not attract the players or the fans and Robins for one will be off - a good offer has been put on the table take it and let us get on with supporting our team in our home city - if we play anywhere else the club will never improve and eventually end up non - league

I went there for an athletics match years before and then again after they moved in and built temporary stands
The transformation was incredible and you'd never have thought it possible
They had similar access problems as it was in an affluent area so local residents fears had to be accommodated
It turned our really well eventually and was the start of the club's resurgence

No way Butlin Road could be extended to 9,000. The only real space for a decent size temporary stand is behind one of the goals but that would mean sacrificing a 3G pitch which surely wouldn't happen.

there's no where near enough space for a 25,000 seater stadium at the Butts but people still insist on debating how it can be done ad nauseum.

The council will make recommendations but it will be the Planning Committee who have the final say.

Although Butlin Road is a better and bigger ground than Liberty Way, access and infrastructure are not as good (still not very good at Liberty Way). However, in Nuneaton there would be less objections from residents as it is on an industrial estate and there is much more space for the erection of temporary stands. Is all the ground around owned by the rugby club? If it is, then that could cause a lot of potential difficulties as they are far from sympathetic to Nuneaton Town. The fact that Smurthwaite is the owner, on the face of it, should be a positive.
The prospect of our club playing at either non league ground, or even worse, somewhere further away fills me with gloom. Would we ever be able to return to Coventry? Would we just gradually dwindle and die with Sisu holding on to the husk of what was once our club to continue with their legal actions?

Same with the hotel and Compass although am I right to say they are tied to wasps in some way?

The Planning process for upgrading Butlin Rd could easily take up to a year if there are objections.

If its temporary structures couldn't they get around that by taking them down once a month? Have a feeling you can stick temporary stands up for 28 days without planning permission.

You've got to assume they wouldn't be happy and I find it hard to imagine that, with the uncertainly over us staying, contracts have been agreed that don't take that in to account. For example the contract to operate the car parks, that's £400K+ revenue a year lost, no company would be happy with that.

Well if we can’t move the Ricoh deal forward and this is a temporary move for a few years I would rather us play in Rugby than at any of the other larger grounds further away that have been mooted.
It keeps the business relatively local and will do wonders for Rugby Town FC at the same time.
In fact there could be an opportunity to develop the ground in Rugby into a much larger stadium going forward with the opportunity to buy it outright or a much larger majority steak and ground share with RTFC in a joint venture of some sort.
I must admit that going to the Ricoh and seeing those Wasps logos everywhere never fails to piss me off!
A move to CV Rugby is not the worse scenario - going out of fucking business is the worst scenario as I see it.

I think access into the ground is going to be a bigger complication than access to the ground. At the moment there’s only one set of turnstiles in, I think there may be a second set in the left hand corner of the car park for away fans if an away end is operated (can only remember that happening once in the late 80’s when VS entertained Brentford in the cup) and realistically access is only available to behind one of the goal ends with temporary turnstiles as it has allotments behind the other goal and the West coast railway the other side. So basically access will be available into the ground on two sides with one route only to the ground itself. It’s going to be a nightmare to police, especially if as someone says Milwall are visiting. Trying to work out how it will get a safety certificate even.

Somebody moved next to Mildenhall stock car stadium and very almost closed it down because of noise pollution on a Saturday night, bankrupted the promoters in the process (ironically a family with the surname of Coventry) and it had to be taken over by another promoter to keep it going with strict conditions on noise. That was one resident, all the other local residents were on the side of the stadium.

You then have the opposite scenario where the residents of Brandon are blocking the development of housing to retain a speedway and stock car track.

I read this as a denial that Tim Fisher said anything about a groundshare at Rugby Town at the match yesterday and that the aim remains to play at the Ricoh next season. There’s is no denial of Rugby Town being a considered option. Not ruling out the rumours entirely yet!
