I will when you pay that charity bet. You know the one about you going to all these games ;)

Amazing you become an expert on threads like this.
I won the bet and you know it.
Not trying to be an expert just repeating what was said in that interview listen and learn might do you good

There's more chance of us winning the league than that...

Strange how somebody so clueless about everything suddenly becomes an expert. Decent script writer? ;)

From the bloke interviewed tonight on CWR just after 5 Andrew something, find out for your fucking self on listen again you might learn something I’m sure someone on here will.
Just listening now, its Simon Gilbert who said it. The whole piece on CWR is a waste of time to be honest as its centred around planning which is not the stage we're at. Its a council PR piece fed to Gilbert and he's gone with it rather then fire back the relevant questions about a forward contract.
It was also mentioned back in 2016 when Fisher first announced an interest in the site as a new base for the training ground and academy.
CCFC consider Woodlands school site as possible home for Academy
Well that's nice and vague. "Planning conditions on the site currently limit its use for educational purposes" thrown in by the Telegraph at the end after loads of quotes for the council about using it for all sorts of things including housing!

No mention of any such restriction in any of the documentation regarding potential future uses for the site on the council website either.

And of course Powerleague have a 30 year lease there, pretty sure that's not educational use.

It wasn’t Simon Gilbert it was the Council director of planning name Andrew Wolstrum or something like that. On the Phil Upton program just after the 5 o’clock news

Sorry it was Gilbert got him mixed up with Upton but the bloke interviewed was this Andrew fella and it was him that mentioned the Secretary of State and English Heritage as I said I couldn’t get it all.

I've just listened to it, it was Gilbert that said the site was restricted to educational use.

You're correct that Andrew Walster was also on but he didn't say anything about the site being restricted to educational use.

Interestingly Gilbert declared Walster was the councils head of planning which is a sudden development as yesterday he was the council’s director of streetscene when speaking to the Telegraph about why the council have lost out on £160K in parking fees at Combe Abbey, where the council have parachuted him in as a director since taking over.

Maybe he's multitasking to justify his £100K salary. Both positions seem a bit odd given his entire career previously has been in waste management.

They're making out it's a special case rather than just like any other property that has permissions for certain uses

Personally I wouldn't just sit back and wait 5 years as I've said earlier in this thread. I would suggest the council put a time limited forward contract in place, exactly as they have done for Wasps, that requires SISU to submit and get approval for a planning application in a specific timeframe. I would then suggest the EFL puts down markers as to what progress is required by a particular dates.

If and when the council stop delaying things and allow this to proceed pretty quickly SISU have to start spending big chunks of cash. Are they really going to do that if they have no intention of building a stadium.

For me its a win - win situation. Either we get a new stadium or SISU have to admit they are full of shit and we draw a line under the pretence there will be a new stadium. And while we are going through that process we stay at the Ricoh rather than moving out of the city. Works whatever way you look at it.

You talk a lot of sense.

Personally I think they have picked this site intentionally. They want the council to drag it out as long as possible.
Even if the council don't drag it out. It will be a nightmare site to get through.
The longer it drags out the better.
It's to justify moving away, it's to squeeze Wasps. It's still all about the Ricoh.
We the fans just get shafted again whilst SISU try and get the Ricoh by force. It won't work unfortunately. There will be another shock variable that hasn't been calculated, that Wasps will do and we will get stuck at where ever we go for years to come. Ironically it will be us that ends up under financial pressure.
Just wish Wasps, SISU and the council could go for a beer and sort it all out. Without trying to screw each other over, some sort of joint venture properly paid for.

The real shame is that if we had decent owners willing to invest in the long term future of the club the training ground and academy combined on the site is actually a sound idea and going by that article achievable too. Never going to happen though just like the unicorn stadium.

Haha, I'd laugh if that was it. 'Its a school it has to be used for education'.

Doesn't mention legal covenant here...

Exciting plans for former Woodlands site | Coventry City Council

Or here

Plans proceed for Coventry special needs school to move to site of former academy

However it is mentioned here

https://www-coventrytelegraph-net.c...ans-sell-coventrys-woodlands-academy-11791406

I can only assume the legal covenant was because the Education Authority still had control of the land for two years after the school closed down. That should be finished now.

Has this already been posted....

Woodlands Academy - Statement from Woodlands Ward Cllrs Peter Male, Gary Ridley and Julia Lepoidevin

We are aware of media reports linking Woodlands Academy to a new stadium development driven by CCFC owners SISU. At this stage, it’s important to recognise that no planning application has yet been made and as far as we are aware no offer has been made to purchase the land from the Council.

If an application is received the Council will need to deal with any application fairly, however we would be deeply concerned by the idea for a number of reasons. The local area does not have the infrastructure to support a football stadium and the scale of the project would not be suitable for the site in question.

Since the Woodlands Academy closed it has been our objective to see the site returned to use as an educational facility as soon as possible. Therefore, we support the plans brought forward by the Council recently to open a new school on the site which must go ahead.

The Woodlands Academy site is there to educate our city’s children and that’s how it must stay.

So they have leaked the location and trying their best to play it down while playing the "we will treat it the same as every other". It has escalated from no talks or specific sites hasn't it.

Try not to be so obvious Harold. Just a tip ;) odds on the comments in the match thread on Sunday? Ha

I for one think harry is a valued new member of the forum who definitely has the club's best interests at heart, just wants to present the facts and in o way has an ulterior motive.

You mean it's a massive co-incidence somebody well informed signed up yesterday just to comment on it?

Maybe Simon or Harold can ask what the meeting was about a couple of weeks ago if it is all on hold and no progression?

Why didn't the council leak the site last year if it was never going to happen instead of denying it all?

I agree about the worries for us. My big fear is we open Pandora's Box, and we either end up merging with whoever we share with, or sodding off to somewhere like Belfast.

Oblivion may end up the most palatable option!

The council are so obvious its unbelievable "The Woodlands Academy site is there to educate our city’s children"

somebody please think of the children LOL! until a lucrative plan for housing comes along... or a shopping centre... or anything that involves a fat brown envelope

Agree that you cant compare now to even the 70s and 80s when Masseys and Wickmans were there. However, they've been building the 'eastern green' estate since the 50s. Most of the houses from hockley lane across Sutton Ave and up to the woodlands were built in the 50s and early 60s.

When I was at Woodlands school they altered the school leaving time so as not to coincide with Massey‘s leaving time to avoid congestion. That was in the 60s when there weren’t as many cars.
