Norwood has tweeted about being back at training today after couple of days off. Is that the right thing to do? Two whole days off building up to huge game? Know they're apparently knackered, but...

They are not just knackered though are they, most are carrying knocks! i am sure they are aware of the importance of these last few games, so i am happy that if they or even just him are off it is with good reason. More likely trying to rest the walking wounded i should think. I would give them the week off it meant they were fired up for saturday.

Thorn said he was going to give them a rest.

Right and proper thing to do. They are both knackered and injured. We need them fresh.

I do agree. Just wondering what opinion was. Know some managers would have had them in Tuesday morning hammering it.

On a semi-related note, does anyone know who our scouts are that watch opposition and feed back to plan for next game? Anyone well known? Assume it used to be Thorn, but he obviously can't do it now if game same day as us.

All of them, and I would think after 2 games in 48 hours a couple days rest and recovery is the right thing to do.

Thorn still does the scouting for us too. I'm sure he's mentioned it in press releases that he has done.

Watching on Monday I think most of them had then off too.:whistle:

Surely he could have had them in for either light training, swimming, watching videos of the opposition, tactics. They didn't need to be called in to run a marathon but they are things that can be done that aren't too physical.

Yes, I don't think they should be beasted with a bleep test but I think saying "have a couple of days off" is something that should happen when we have done well.

They looked absolutely physically fucked during the Bristol game and I'd imagine mentally drained as well after.

Think a couple of days off is definitely the right thing to do, then drag them back in do a bit of light training and then, as Nick has said above, concentrate tactically for the next few games.

At this stage of the season it's not so much about actually training them but keeping them ticking along.

Imagine if Thorn had brought them in for training the next day and then someone like Keogh had done his hamstring? He would be absolutely castigated from all quarters.

I think it was the right thing to do,

Gives them a bit of a break from each others company, too.

It's not an issue as far as I'm concerned. They will (hopefully) have been totally deflated after Mondays shambles, so getting them Tuesday and roasting them isn't the answer. A couple of days off to recharge the batteries is what they need at this stage of the season.

Whatever AT would have done would be wrong if we lose and right if we win

i would give them as long as they need..as long as they come out all guns blazing saturday...this is our last chance....we can do it..but they have to go for it now...no room for error...will we stay up...id like to say we will...

Really depends.

If we come out all guns blazing and throw everything at the game for the 3 points but lose because the other team were much better I wouldn't have an issue. If we lose but can safely say we threw everything at them then no problem at all.

If we come out and play for a draw with 2 midfielders sitting deep and nobody getting in the box when we have the ball out wide with a negative look about us and still lose then yes I'd be annoyed.

"giving them as long as they need" just seems a little soft, fair enough there are players with slight injuries so don't get them 2 footing each other or overdoing it but there is plenty of other things they could do!

There is some fatigue (mentally and physically) in the squad, several of which are carrying a few knocks. A couple of days to get their heads together and get a little R&R, prior to coming back a little sharper and more concentrated..? No bad thing, but it is all hypothetical.

Thorn must either think we are definatly not going down and is therefor taking it easy on them or they deseve a rest after their game on monday, because they played reeaaaallly well didnt they thorn;):thinking about:

The thing is, it would be daft to call players in for training when some of them are struggling with strains. We don't have a huge squad so if half of them are 50/50 fitness wise it's best to give them a few days off and hope they are all refreshed and ready to go for Saturday.

I remember stories about the danish national team who back in 1992 gained access to the european championship when (the then) Jugoslavia was banned. The players had to be recalled from their hollidays and turned up completely unfit less than two weeks before the first match. Yet, miracles happens and they qualified to the semi final against the hosting nation and arch enemy Sweden. And won.
Here it comes ... almost every player was now completely worn down and everyone carried knocks. So, the manager cancelled all and every training in the days leading to final game and ordered relaxation, sightseeing, burgers, beers and the wifes/girlfriends/lovers were brought in.
They won the final against Germany 2-0.

So yes ... two whole days off can actually be just the right medicin.

Would rather have heard they were in by now getting focused. However with such a small squad resting is best. I am sure if it was normal squad where people were not playing injured they would have been in by now.

Let them have a break from training, then sit all of them in a room and put on the 87 cup final DVD!

Say right you fuckers play like this for the next 4 games! Win the lot and get this once great club out of the mess you lot put it in!

Where is your passion, fight, hunger and togetherness!

Show it to those who watch you week in week out and you will be forgiven!

I'm inclined to agree with Nick. There are a million things they can do apart from physical training which they do every week. A day off is one thing but two? Jeez is there any sense of urgency and being in the moment? I don't want to get at AT but after recent comments of " we go again" and the like i wonder if he has realised that time is running out and he needs to work his miracle not rest on his laurels like he had another 42 games left........

You don't want to get at AT? Had a knock on the head? Would be the first time I remember that you don't want to have a go at him.

these a professional footballers

maybe not train but at least went in and looked at the past 2 games and see what went wrong , most crucial time of the season and they need to look at what went wrong

footballers get it too easy

Have to agree they should be in looking over games on dvds, pointing out things to players like HERMAN has done for JC etc...
Players to busy to train.
Oliver Norwood is at another press interview or two during his days off??
is he now the teams spokesman or do CeT have a direct line to him.Should the so called olderheads be a bit more vocal??

As things stand we are going to be relegated to League 1, where there is no reason to suspect we won't languish for the next decade. I take your point, but does it matter who is giving the press conferences? No one knows the effect a rest will have on the players in terms of clearing the mind and body, although I'm sure no one is disputing the fact that footballers don't work hard for their money in the grand scheme of things.

Asute I don't deliberately have a go at Thorn at all. I have often been critical over time of his tactics and substitutions as I would of any manager. Here once again I disagree with his philosophy about training and two days off at a crucial time. Even this mornings BBC interview he has spoken about 'another run'. I think it's a bit late for that! We need wins nothing else will secure our status. You don't go on 'runs' with 4 games to go...
As a former P.T.I. in the Royal Air Force (back in the day - long ago) I know a thing or two about training methods and fitness both physical and mental. I also mentioned way back Harrison's influence was a factor for me as I saw his contributions and methods both pre-season and a couple of times since and I wouldn't have him along side me.
Just my opinion of course.

The players were fooked after the3 last game and carrying knocks. What can they learn at this time of the season?
