Wouldn't be the worst idea in the world to hang onto Davies next season for a number of reasons. Solid player, well liked in the dressing room and a good leader. Also, whilst it's obviously important to avoid keeping players for the sake of it, at the same time it's important that we don't leave ourselves threadbare come June. MR already has a pretty significant job on his hands with regards to recruitment, he doesn't need to make it any harder for himself by letting go of a good player, if he can help it that is.

Understandable if Davies wants to go in search of more first team football though. I doubt he'd be difficult to replace but I'm all for not rocking the boat and keeping a tight knit squad together so hope he's keen on staying.

Interesting Torch, why Davies over Willis?

I have the perception - could be wrong, of course - that Willis misses quite a few games through injury. Just think Willis is typical "no nonsense" lower league defender who just kicks it - anywhere - rather than looks for a pass. I think Davies is more cultured and just as capable a defender.

He did enough in our promotion season to suggest he's worth another year. It is a "yes" from me to keeping him on.

Willis has managed an injury that has been there for a while, day-to-day and City have also been aware, IMO but have never disclosed it?

He has signed a new lease on his apartment in Rugby ,so hopefully he will be playing for us especially if Willis goes as rumoured.

He seems to only be out for a couple of games at a time so could just be knocks which aren't risked rather than a muscle injury that keeps flaring up. If he is carrying something more severe but is pushed to play by the club then i could see why he would leave on a free, definitely damaging for his long term career prospects

Look at all these yeses and agreement.

It's just like the EU Brexit thread.

Hello Otis, have you been on Holiday ?

He's a leader, Willis is probably going, he's good for the division, so I would keep him. I like the way they have worked out a move whereby Davies comes out of defence but does not hoof it, instead plays it short to Thomas, who is lithe enough to turn and move the ball forward. See the Baka goal against Sunderland, but they have done it more than once.

I believe he has a long-term knee issues, that can't be solved (at leats not easily), which is what flares up from time to time and why he misses games.

Oh I didn't know that, would surely put most teams off when that comes up in a medical?

reports on social media he's been let go, key words, social media, so could be absolute bollocks.
Robins must either have a superior centre half lined up or must think he can bring one of the young lads through if true.
For me, if him and Willis go, we would be seriously weakened in a position we were really strong in this season.

I know John Dawkins through other lads I know. He’s got a box that Jack Grimmer and Tom Davies visit often so I’d say it’s likely what he is saying to be fair. Shame because assuming Willis is going then I thought a Davies/Hyam pairing would be decent. Either Willis is staying or he has a back up.

keep forgetting we've got Rose to come in but he's a bit of an unknown quantity.

Looks like the club/Robins may have messed him around.

Will be a loss imo.

He seems a likeable guy but there's alot of centre backs who can do what he does, kicking and heading.

For that reason I'm not too downbeat.

Shame TD is going because I think he’s a decent CB at this level but it’s not worth losing sleep over. As you say, players come and go. I’m sure Robins has a plan.

Sounds like any players that want to stay here should steer clear of this Dawkins chap next season!
