I was kindly invited to Bramall Lane on Monday night for a celebration dinner for SUFC promotion. I have never had any time for the Blades and their fans but it was a nice offer from a close friend, so I went along not being one to turn down a meal and a bottle of good wine.
Anyhow, getting to the point.........

As you can imagine the atmosphere was euphoric and all the local dignitaries were in attendance from local councillors, business people, local bankers and lawyers and the great and the good of Sheffield. The TV cameras from Look North were lapping it all up

A couple of the key note speakers spoke very eloquently about the value to the City of Sheffield and were suggesting that the local community would benefit to the tune of £50 million per season as a result of SUFC promotion to the Premier League. On top of this is all the exposure via TV around the world for Sheffield and the surrounding areas including the airport, local supply chain, hotels, restaurants etc etc.

So CCC get your fingers out and support CCFC. This is, of course, why they encouraged Wasps to come to the city. However the rewards to the city via the football are 5 fold what can be achieved from Rugby.

It was only two years ago SUFC were in League 1.

When you look at it like that you’d think the council would be bending over backward to help the club. It’s almost like the councillors have other priorities...

Every council in the country knows that premier league football is worth loads to the local economy but ours. Since the 90s they've just tried to make a quick buck out of the club instead of properly supporting the club and its community value.

Good post. The council have been a disgrace courting wasps back in 2012 - no thought or consideration at the time for the rugby club that bears this city’s great name nor the consequences of CCFC’s future. Not one thought at all but winning a battle between CCC and SISU.

I’d say CCC have damaged this city’s sporting heritage as much as Wasps and SISU have.

When Wasps eventually go under I hope the instigators of Wasps arrival hold there heads in shame.

Another thing about our wonderful council not one spade in ground in relation to city’s regeneration project from the station to the city centre to date or even any communication to the Coventry people of the hold up etc.

I was living in Portsmouth when they were in the shit and the local council lent their supporters trust the money to buy the ground. Before they could do that they had to justify it by assessing the economic impact the club had on the area, it was huge even with them being in League 2 at the time.

What should the council do then?
Remember CCFC is a business not an actual club with members.
They can support the football club by not selling the Ricoh to WASP but that ship has sailed.
SISU are the ultimate owners and responible for the football club.
If you expect a council in some way to come to the aid of CCFC then you will have a bunch of other businesses with something to say about that.
The council should have thought about the damage to the communities football club when they conspired to bring in WASP and offer them a 250 year lease!
The council no longer have any cards to play. They acted with some spite against SISU at the time instead of considering the long term effects on CCFC under any future owners.
There is very little the council can do for the football club except perhaps giving planning consent for a new stadium on a suitable site.

I also post exactly what I believe though which helps Mark.

Also helps being a funny fucker now and again.
I was jesting. Find myself agreeing with what you believe most of the time.
And yes, your gif repertoire is worthy of a like or two.

You're a top quality like whore, second only to OSB.

Swansea council built the liberty stadium and charged the football and rugby nominal rent for the past 10 years - The football club have now taken on the lease on the condition the rugby club also play there and pay the council £300,000 per annum
