I don't tend to get too upset about celebrities and musicians dying (stiff upper lip and all that), often wondering what the fuss is about, but Ranking Roger's passing really hit me. I guess having seen him perform so recently might have forged that bond.
I get this. Musicians and sports people probably effect me most. Music and Sport just always been huge part of my life but also the older ones trigger certain memories. Ranking Roger, for example, took me back to teen years and refreshed memories of old friends, old experiences etc.
Film / TV people don't mean a whole lot as never been much of a telly person.

The Rolling Stones cut short a big US concert tour because Mick Jagger is unwell.
He's 75. How much longer can they go on?

Can you enlighten us please?

Shocking stuff. Can’t believe someone could’ve said something like this at any time in history. Let alone recent history.

From his Wiki page:

“In 1988, Smith caused controversy after stating in an interview with the author Dave Hill that Howard Gayle "suffered from a black man's attitude towards the white man. See, everybody thinks whites have an attitude towards blacks. In reality it's blacks who have a problem with the whites... I used to call Howard the 'White Nigger'. Now that is a compliment. It was the only way I could find to describe that I thought he was OK." Smith then went on to comment to Hill that "I'm not prejudiced but if a coon moved in next door, I'd move, like most white people would. If my daughter came home with a nigger, I'd go mad. But I'm only being truthful and normal."[36] Smith intended to sue Hill, but found he had no grounds to take legal action as Hill had recorded all of Smith's comments on tape during the interview.“

well known to be a racist H. Not just different era type stuff but some real nasty shit. CJs post above is an example of the sort of stuff I'd heard about.
Blimey never knew that. That is prehistoric attitude and shocking. Was going to write an article on Smith for Late Tackle magazine who I write for, but not sure now seeing he was like that. But I could include his rascist views ?

There's certainly plenty of material to go at with him.
Sure he got done for benefit fraud because he was classed as disabled but got caught playing a match! I think it may have been him who claimed his Injury issues were down to misuse of cortisone injections though you might need to fact check that B.

He kicked a ball I read at Wembley into the net, and for that he had his benefit stopped. I think I will do a piece on his career, as he was a Liverpool great, but will include his rascist views. It may be a generation thing but still comes across as outdated and wrong. My late father was a bit like that, I pulled him up on it on occasions, but he said " I'll say what I like in my own home." Told me to piss off if I was offended !

An interesting comparison that a top player from the 70's needed to be on benefits in the first place. Would that happen now.

He had both knees replaced and hips and had arthritis too. In a wheelchair also at times I read in an article. Those hard physical players suffered badly when their careers ended. And financially weren't looked after like these days, just like those who served in the armed services in a way, are often left to their own devices. Sad really.

Not sure how well known he will be on here, but Paul Raymond of UFO. They've just finished their final UK tour as well.

Is Ed Bishop still alive?

One of my favourite TV shows of all time.
Gabrielle Drake and Wanda Ventham!
I think every episode is available on Youtube.
Ed Bishop died in 2005. He was an excellent actor.
He's buried in Napton, Warwickshire.

I used to like that TV series as well, but I think that who Paul Anthony is referring to is the band, UFO. ;)
